  1. My reason to love the Hub is that facts and logic are hardly seldom a pre-requisite for posting anything. Loving the lynch mobs at the moment. Executions at dawn the day after.
  2. ..... And so they should. Good service MUST be rewarded as much as bad service gets a bollocking. Well done CWC and sell pointed out as well.
  3. My bad. I thought this was some sort of Catholic thing.
  4. DeanBean, with that view I would also be miffed. Not a mine dump in sight - what do you use as direction markers?
  5. Dyslexia rules, KO!
  6. Bad spellers of the world untie?
  7. I know, it is a terrible burden to carry around. Oh well, chins up.
  8. Good point. I make myself sick!
  9. I am tired of negativity and people who constantly and consistently moan about things.
  10. About as subtle as an outhouse bucket at a wedding.
  11. Errrm, dunno?
  12. Benoni High were told yesterday that they have a loooooong weekend - only supposed to be back on Tuesday.
  13. It does seem a bit unfair: men get new cars, new bikes and perhaps a new "secretary". Women get hot flushes and emotional.
  14. Puncture Girl, perhaps I did not make my opinion on private schools clear so please allow me a few lines to clarify. Private schools have something in common with government schools: some are good and some are not. By citing my example it was probably skewed to show I have an issue with all private schools. Sorry.
  15. I wear a UK 11 - while I don't feel like a clown with these feet, there are times when I wish I had either size 8 or 9 as these seem to be what shops stock up on.
  16. I despise the strike turning violent. The fact that non-striking workers (teachers/medical/etc) are being intimidated is a criminal offence and cannot be condoned. However, we as a nation, are entrusting our future (these children)into the charge of people who are paid a pittance. For 7 years teachers never received an increase. So, if I work for the Government I should just accept this? Knobs to you friend. The last strike resulted in promises being made that were never kept, hence this strike. I must accept this because I am a civil servant? Have a toffee! As a teacher I can get paid 3 times as much as a government teacher? Covie, please can you follow this up with some facts? My brother-in-law is the headmaster at a private school in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. He gets marginally more than headmasters of a medium sized school. Triple? Not too sure where you are getting your information from. My wife is a qualified teacher with 24 years experience. Why must she go into the private school system? Private schools are not the be-all-and-end-all of education. A number of private schools have matriculants that cannot enter university. The pupils marks are over 80% average and they do not get accepted by SA universities. Why? (Sorry Sias, not because they are white). Their uppity private school system is not recognised by the SA universities, and let me qualify that statement by saying that I am not referring to the IEB here. Solution? Go back and re-do matric at a "crappy" government school. Qualifications are not that closely adhered to in many private schools either. Bed of roses? Yup, just watch for the thorns. This strike is inconveniencing people, and that is exactly what a strike is supposed to do. Once again, I do not condone the intimidation, destruction of property or the violence. I have mostly addressed the teaching profession in this little tirade as I do not know enough about the other fields that are also on strike.
  17. Covie, I hope you are using the term educators in inverted commas because you are questioning whether these people are actually from the teching profession. My wife is a teacher with 24 years experience and is not on strike. There is a suspicion that people are being bussed in from "rent-a-crowd". I am sure there are some teachers tha are taking part in this dispicable behaviour, but let us not for one minute think that it is everyone.
  18. Hey Timmy, relax a bit. Just because someone spots what is to him/her a possible snag in your marvelous idea you have to go and get all shirty about it? Not cool.
  19. Oh come now! Do you expect us to swallow that?
  20. Backward Ox, what can I say other than I love a good hump (or two)?
  21. I think I'll light up a Camel after reading that.
  22. (i) Never make light of any subject - "they" will get you. (ii) Never post anything positive about this country. Ever. Under any circumstances. It has already gone to the dogs, so just give up. (iii) Never allow people to make their own decisions - If they are contrary to your decisions/beliefs then you MUST change them quickly. (iv) It is mandatory to be negative about all items under discussion. This starts with the R of SA and permeates down to chamois creme/shoe laces/Alberto. (v) Do not ever take a photograph trying to give a perspective on a disaster to your readers. You are a fashion magazine and therefore have no editorial right on anything other than makeup and dresses.
  23. I saw that the thread was getting a bit heated, but I obviously missed the fireworks. HeartCoppi, I have no idea what you said, but everyone makes a mistake now and then (all the Hubbers nod in agreement) and at the very least you have the decency to apologise. There is no use puffing about it now. It is like when smoke gets in your eyes.
  24. Tumbleweed, what was the story?
  25. Methinks you aim to high. Don't you mean Quickstep? Are they already confirmed for our Toer? See how easy it is to start a rumour? Your eloquence is truly astounding.
