  1. Topwine - unfortunately PPA cannot please all the people all the time. I for one don't use my transponder when I am not fit to make my time is not displayed! Their is nothing that PPA can do about that at this moment in time which means your comparison against the whole field may always be in accurate.
  2. Nothingness - it seems we both enjoy the finer things in life! The campy cork screw! My post in this topic yesterday! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/85838-r1500-for-a-campy-chain-breaker/page__st__20__gopid__1181178#entry1181178
  3. here som pics of the fab cork screw! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/59917-best-birthday-present-ever/page__p__904997#entry904997
  4. Coenie - it is something that the PPA funrides does not offer at this moment in time but maybe some day they will. From what I have seen posted is if you join PPA your previous results will be shown if I have read this thread correctly - I thinks that pretty generous of PPA if that the case - this could be likened to your option to pay more for a temp number - which just then becomes a permanent seeded number and allows you to ride in groups of similar ability! I have work to do now!
  5. paarlmtb - to not shut the door on new cyclist - but yes to get all the benefits you need to be a members. This may be a very bad comparison but here goes: 1. I by an alarm system for my house and it cost say R2000 from Home alarms - lets call this your chip! 2. It has a siren which goes off - lets call this the beep as you pass over the mats 3. Armed response will only come out if I pay a monthly service fee which could be from ADT (R313 montly) and not Home alarms as I linked the alarm to ADT. So lets call these your result and for a PPA event you need to pay PPA membership fee for these result. As I said it may be a bad example but it is how business works!
  6. Coenie - I don't believe their a problem for PPA event only offering timing to PPA members. PPA / the PPA event organizers pay the timing company to come and do the timing it not for free and it is a benefit to PPA members! CSA does not the timing company for PPA event!
  7. Paarlmtb your 1st statement is 100% correct and yes that is why I am still sit on PPA - if I look to how many cyclist competed at SA track champs this past weekend or SA road champs - if cycling for the masses was left to the old SACF / CSA the market would probably not even be a 10th of the size! I think by my other committee members I am regards as the "black Sheep" as I voice my concern on how much money PPA is saving and NOT investing in cycling and our events - be it the Giro del Capo or not taking the timing system to the next level and using it as an entry system too. But the counter argument is at least PPA has a healthy set of book, unlike a lot of sports bodies all around the world! So maybe I should have started this tread about been frustrated!
  8. Coenie - if the name mentioned earlier in the tread was the person, she has been spoken to many occasions. But as PPA committee members are not heartless we still allow her at our event, possibly research the individual, then tell me how you would feel about basically putting a gun to somebodies head. As a voluteer on a committee I really do not want that on my conscience!
  9. Maybe this will help answers the question on where the money goes. http://www.pedalpower.co.za/AboutPPA/PPAProjects/tabid/74/Default.aspx If you don't like it then why did you not go to the AGM and complain? At the AGM only 4 people were will to stand out of a possible 6 place? Why don't you volunteer? I put my nomination form in before I left RSA but gave strict instruction if their were another 6 people will to stand please remove my nomination form from the pile. You guys seem to want to complain without actually doing anything about it - that includes just even going to an AGM. I feel it quite disgraceful on the members part that I am even still on the committee considering I have not attend an AGM for about 6 years now - but the power is in the hands of the members!
  10. Nobody - Coenie if you are implying that PPA has ever paid a ticket to Euro bike for any of the committee members or myself you are sorely mistaken. My business is in the bike business and for business reasons I need to go to Euro bike much like CWC and other bike industry players. I realize for most people it hard to understand why you would volunteer for a task - but their are some who do. Yup I am meant to receive a Honoria of a few thousand rand each year, the numbers are reported at the AGM, but I choose to have this paid to WED night Killarney so I have no to know what the number is!
  11. Sorry I noticed now you from Roodepoort - no comment!
  12. FowlStArt - I sure you question were answered at the AGM last month - my excuse for not been at the AGM for the past number of year is it clashed with Euro Bike so I am in Germany. Do you have a reason for not been at the AGM assuming you were not their?
  13. I have a Champy cork screw about R1500 and yes you can buy a cork screw for R20 - but the champy 1 is so impressive! Even given a few away as wedding presents - possible the corks screw is the best item champy makes.
  14. Exactly! Not to mention with a PPA membership you get your seeded numbers so you can start in the group you qualify for!
  15. Mads - thats basically correct and as it a PPA seeding index surely it should be for PPA members?
  16. Just join PPA if you a rider who does not want to ride SA road champs or major tours. Your PPA membership includes licence fees and you do not need to be a members of a club! PPA has Family memberships too.
  17. Coenie - I was not their this past weekend but: 1. PPA does have staff but only a handful and I can assure you most do not go ever weekend to the funrides. 2. Then PPA has funride teams who go out on the weekend who do get paid. 3. Then PPA has PPA Marshals - who are basically volunteers who help our funride teams at the funrides - these are unpaid and by the name mentioned (shes been with PPA even longer than me) in the tread the a marshals may have been rude - very hard to discipline a volunteer and yes PPA is running out of Marshals. Believe me the funride would function a lot worse without the PPA marshals - they normally organise all the start and for that they get to start at the back! 4. Then without the funride organizers - who basically do 1 funride each year - their would be hardly any funrides, yup these people normally fall under Rotary or Lions clubs and that why entries are their to help their causes! But why not go to JHB and pay 3 times the entry for a promoter to pocket?
  18. Edge_Design - I have done 27 ACT (3 in under 2h30min) and been a PPA member for 28 years. I also still sit on PPA committee (for 15 years)only because their are not enough people who are willing to be on the committee - we are currently 10 and we meant to be 12! What ever money I get from PPA I give to Wed night Killarney plus other sponsorship. So my fellow hubbers instead of bitching - get involved - or are you all just takers?
  19. Agreed with caad4 - I am sure he was with them for 2010 also. But still Congratulations dude!
  20. And the riders who beat them and who they beat were not? Probaly on far better juice!!!!
  21. Matie - not sure who your comment was directed at - but I am about to climb on the podium at Sa track champs currently under way for a medal!
  22. Willie Engelbrecht - Bronze at commonwealth games road race JP van Zyl - Kerin medalist David George - 3rd world U23 TT champs James Perry - 3rd world U23 TT champs Unfortunately this was all back in the 90ies and just out of isolation. These guys new how to train and trained in RSA to race at world level! David George know how to train and choses his race to race in and train to that level. What I am saying is not all riders are the same - so for some maybe been based in Europe is the answer, but for other been trained correctly at home has also worked as well if not better!
  23. I still have a few sets in stock - as mentioned above for R2900 - but the stock is going down quite fast. 4 sets sold this morning and it is only 9:28!
  24. Nope the Argus is a protest ride and thus the use of the Freeway !!! Or maybe was in 1978! Now car are not allowed to use that road on the 2nd Sunday of march each year - so maybe the wheel is turning slowly! I don't normally use the M3 for training as it is so barring and Illegal, but when I do I feel safer than on the main road due to the nice wide shoulder - maybe the laws should change quicker that every day in a cycle tour day - just like our ex presidents slogan was make every day N M day!
