  1. Gordon - Pure Art is probably the best in the world. He did my Lotus frames back in the 90's when I produced them nobody else in the world could get it right - since then he has done a number of frames for me. He is in a class of his own!
  2. What about lease agreement for residential property or commercial property? Say you have a 1 year lease now can you give 2o days notice regardless of where you are in that lease? Will this work both ways? Sell a house - I suppose you will have to point out that you have a high pressure geyser which will eventually explode!
  3. I am a roadie, but have been to Bordeaux for the TDF on more than 1 occassion! Cycling in the region is GREAT - get the bike - leave it their at the office and get your company to send you back in June / July!!!! Make sure the work load is not too much.
  4. I cant seem to put a post on News 24 - so if somebody can do this for me after reading and making sure it makes sense I would appreciate it. I am both cyclist and motorist - With regards to the death last week - if the law was obeyed or even educated probably the accident probably would not have happened. I do not throw blame on the truck drive but rather the authorities and the learner driver education system. Currently the law of the road in RSA says when one vehicle overtakes another vehicle it must be done in a separate lane, it also says that you you use your indicator when ever you choice to change your course of direction - so if it is just one cyclist riding a car should be over taking in the separate lane. My question is if motorist were to obey thsi law what difference would it make if they 2 or even 4 a breast - if they are driving according to the law? In point of fact possibly cyclist are their own worst enemy in this regards by riding as far left as the individual cyclist feels safe has allowed cars to overtake without changing their course of direction (much)! Cyclist are trying to get the law changed that a 1.5m gap should be left between a cyclist and a vehicle, but this concession to motorist still has not be written in the law - but even with this concession it will probably mean on a solid white line with a motorist overtaking a single cyclist would result in the motorist breaking the law as 2 wheels would need to cross the barrier line - illegal! Basically the legal way of over taking a cyclist would be indicate to overtake with the right indicator (this warns the vehicles behind that there is a obstacle in front) wait till you can do the overtaking procedure in a separate (right) lane - normally into on coming traffic, Indicate to come back into the left lane with your left indicator! How often have you or have you seen this procedure been done correctly according to RSA traffic law in RSA? Pity motorist cannot obey this 1st rule of the road (regards less of speed limit) stay left when it comes to driving on the high ways. Most motorist end up driving in the fast lane instead of overtaking in the fast lane in free flow traffic - thus other motorist end up overtaking in the left lane which can be very dangerous. Possible if motorists drove in the left lane when they eventually got to small road they would have the patients to obey the speed limit and show consideration towards other road users. In other countries like The Netherlands they have come to realise that motorist are the major law breakers and not cyclist or other road users. So basically they have put a law in place that if a motorist hit a cyclist the motorist has to prove that he did not see the cyclist (even if the cyclist was going through a red robot) or the motorist is guilty! Some other thought: 1. If motorist would show cyclist 1/10 of the patients they show to Baboons while going through Cape Point, or the evasive actions they tend to show animals / pets on roads I as a cyclist would feel 100 times safer than I do on the RSA roads currently. 2. I have never heard of a cyclist (A cyclist in cycling kit) who has caused any physical injury to another road users for going through a red robot! I do know of a cyclist who was killed in Lakeside for waiting at a red robot in the 90's while a drunk drive drove over him while going through the red robot. Please also remember a cyclist is not sitting in a air conditioned car - so when it raining stopping and starting all the time may result in physical injury to the cyclist or swine flue! Conversely when hot waiting at robot cause over heating the air flow is a cyclist radiator! Yup it is against the law but as mentioned I have yet to here that it has harmed anybody - I am not in anyway suggesting that cyclist should speed through red robot. 3. Driving in a yellow line is illegal - cycling is too! But motorist expect cyclist to ride inside a yellow line and break the law, most if not all oblige - why do motorist never complain about that - but going through a red robot HELL will Freeze over! So when rules are for the guidance of wise men and for fools to follow and it suits the Motorist - then it is OK? 4. With regards to cycle lane - sometime the are devil thrown on the new lane in Table view which mean cyclist will probably end up on the road as after one puncture you realize that cycle path is not conducive for cycling on. 5. Minor are legally allowed to ride on the public roads in RSA - which we as citizen of RSA need to know that motorist are adequately train and respect the laws they are trained in as other road users do not require road education. 6. When last or if ever did a motorist die as a cyclist killed them by cycling on the road? How often has a motorist use their vehicle as a weapon against a cyclist resulting in injury or death? I could carry on but my lunch break is now over!
  5. The Only answer for a guy of your weight (I am the same weight) is Spinergy - don't need to worry about breaking spokes etc. I carry stock of the stealth wheels at R7500 per pair black or white spokes - these are carbon rims 43mm. I and many other train and race on these wheels for seasons! http://www.spinergy.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=20&products_id=81 Alternatively the Xaero light wheels are R4500. http://www.spinergy.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=20&products_id=83
  6. Well if you do you may as well go to 10 speed - in stock SLX R4750 and XT R6500
  7. I recon 2 heavy duty cable ties would be lighter cheaper and also do the trick!
  8. It should fit - at least on the road 8, 9 and 10 speed are all the same!
  9. Rome was not built in a day! Getting fit is gradual process! I would suggest trying to ride 3 days out of 4! The process for you would possible look like this and yes as mentioned by somebody else use flat road and pedal the whole way and also you light gears i.e. spin! Day 1. 5km Day 2. 7.5km Day 3. 10km Day 4. Rest Day 5. 7.5km Day 6. 10km Day 7. 12.5Km Day 8. Rest Day 9. 10km Day 10. 12.5km Day 11. 15Km Day 12 Rest Maybe now increase it a bit Day 13. 15km Day 14. 20km Day 15. 25km if you feel comfortable with this new level do it for three block and then maybe increase the increments by 10km Ok - I am sure you can see the pattern if you want to adjust it feel free I.e. starting at a different distance and increasing the block distance within a block by a different level. Your goal of riding a 50km race means you should take your Block in training up to about 80km before you start doing any kind of hard intervals etc. All this training should be at a level you are comfortable to have a conversation with.

  12. Sorry I am - after a 140km bike ride and a Sunday!
  13. I have a 55cm (centre to centre) ti road frame / bike for you currently built with new 105 and Fulcrum 5 wheels R1400 - just frame and fork R7000. All brand new! email me on icycling1@gmail.com currently at a bike shop so cannot take pics right now
  14. Nope the guidance of wise men and fools to follow! haha
  15. Today I became an anarchist - not sure if thats even a word! I went for a 140km ride - stopped at all the robots etc, but then when riding on the road where there was a yellow line after a few cars hooted and waived at me indicating I should ride in the yellow line - I agreed with them - even though this is completely illegal. But for my own safety and for consideration of fellow road uses I decide it was best - thus I am an anarchist according to some I have further degraded the society we live in by breaking the law! Not sure how the law would help me if hit from behind at 120km/h and I was dead. As I mentioned in previous post I do believe laws should be updated and to what the current situation is on our road - but while they have not well we breaking them. Funny how motorist don't mind if we break the law to help with the flow of traffic by riding in the yellow line - but all hell will break lose if we go through a red robot - which really did not endanger anyone (but by stopping all the time our personnel heath is affected esp if in a rain storms as our "engines" get cold which may result in getting sick - swine flu kills) so I come to the conclusion what ever a cyclist does will be wrong in a motorist eyes - even if the motorist at the time is overtaking on a solid white line with a cell phone in the one ear / hand and doing makeup with the other hand! Been riding for 30 years now on SA road so please don't think I am not a responsible cyclist - years of experience allows myself to judge a situation as to what is best for me without physically injuring anyone! Yup today 5h30 - 30 year on the road - many hour on the road relatively safely.
  16. If you train far (time riding) enough you don't suffer from this syndrome - your feet get use to the pressure - but probably most of us don't train far enough!!!
  17. Try tee tree oil (net may burn in a bit sometimes found sold in a % oil solution) seems to work for everything or anthisan
  18. 1 metre 56 and weigh 162 kgs If these are you stats - it a pity you at the back as you would offer slip steam for 2 cyclists on the drops!
  19. 105 from Icycling - the new stuff 5700 (gear cable to handlebar) R4750.00. Oh and the new 2011 Campy super record now also in stock at R16 500.00
  20. They are were all new the R12 500 were aluminum, Carbon / TI R14 500 and the R19k would be full carbon. When you say you a 54cm is that measured from centre of BB to Centre of top tube or centre of BB to top - standard or compact geometry?
  21. What size? I have put a few bikes together with new 105 - gear cables to handlebars and Mavic elite wheels with GP4000 and Ritchey accessories from R12 500.00. Not 2 many frames left.
  22. I am about to put a special on GP4000 at R3..,00 send email to icycling1@gmail.com I only have black GP 4000!
  23. Thanks for the very kind words - I always try and do my job properly!
  24. I have Xt wheels in stock - new R2900. So for a few hundred rand I decided not to bring MT65 anymore!
  25. Look is very easy to point fingers - and I do my fair share of this but ... On the track to me their was 1 outstanding rider at Commonwealth games (I have not seen all the events) a 22 year AUS who managed to lap the field 3 times in the point race etc. I was at SA track champs and yes we have the talent of that I am sure! To a degree I feel Commonwealth games (maybe Olympics also) - and yes their should be no hard and fast rule - should be from SA point of view for rider who are hungry - probably the younger riders who have not been exposed to the international stage, but this is their opportunity. The riders who have a need to prove themselves! Did any of the riders at this years commonwealth games need to prove themselves and if so for what? The riders on the road were all basically tired from a long hard PRO season - some probably did not even really want to be their. But would rather be resting for next years season where again at moments in time they will more than Likely do SA proud. Does the CSA strategy suck - I am not sure. For sure the riders have done SA proud at other event - probably the problem is the depth to which CSA is looking and that is even at U23 level. We cant just have less than 10 riders at world class level - we need like 20. Some may go for Europe for 3 to 6 month stints while others may stay at home and do some serious TT training for once off event like worlds and Commonwealth games. I use the TT as an example as it is an event which you can train for on home turf to international level - and even the likes of David George and James Perry have proven that!! Possibly the other problem is how this country best cyclist have all been taken by JHB based cycling teams - progressively reducing the standards on the other provinces - it their an answer to this maybe and that would be if you U23 and you sign with a top local team you not legible to rep RSA in the U23 cat sort of like at world's level Pro's cannot race U23 races - I know I will get a lot of flake for even suggesting this and then how to determine which teams are really the local pro teams! This is not a dig at the local pro teams they do a lot for RSA cycling and RSA cycling needs them too! So I have not answered any off the questions but maybe some of the ideas may be worth looking at!
