The Nikon D400 ( I think) get svery good ratings and I think its been voted as the best entry level Digital SLR The Canon 400D also is a very good camera for starting of with I would say to look at functionality of the camera (iow all the settings you can adjust, like white ballance and shutter speeds, ISO, F stop and so) and obviously pic Megs Take a look at Digital Planet, I think you can do comparesons on their site.... I use a Canon 300D and I'm very pleased with it, only thing is the white ballance settings seems to be a bit limmited, some cameras you can set a Temp value for better white ballance..... I think the Canon has a better light meter, than Nikon, I recall something like that from my course..... MWNN and PhotoFairy and Crux will be the specialists here......
