  1. That is a good time for your first ride there! Now that you know the route you can work out where to push a bit harder and where to save yourself for. Lately I have been doing a bit of MTB'ing and found that I can spin more on my road bike because of it. Of course cadence will still be a bit slower compared to the mtb bike because of the gearing.
  2. Are you finished today's stage if you are posting on the hub already? Or did the fall put you out the race? How is it going?
  3. Mixing the too works for me. SBR is a hard place to ride. You just got to survive as best you can and take each hill as it comes. But I love it there and Indigo Kid and Kieran can confirm that.
  4. Great to hear of that! Big ! Who were getting most of the helmets, the guys who ride their bikes to work? Most of the people riding without helmets that I have seen have been the black people who commute on the bikes.
  5. Try select a easy gear to spin more at a higher cadence. Sitting will use less energy and your HR will remain a bit lower. Standing uses more energy and your HR will increase a bit. Standing has more power but at the expensive of energy used. You will get tired from standing up all the climbs. The best is to mix the two. Sit for a bit and then stand for a bit. Then sit again. You will use slightly different muscle so then your muscles can rest a bit. When you stand change to a heavier gear. When you sit again try keep that momentum and gear instead of changing.
  6. Cycle-Babe - just approach the Argus the same way as you approached the 94.7 and you will be fine. In my opinion the Argus is easier than the 94.7 so you should be fine. The two events are very similar, especially in terms of the start with the double row of pens so you are used to that. Just relax, ride safely and enjoy the ride!
  7. That is an awesome result for the South Africans!!
  8. ActiveC - if he uses this stretch of road often then one day skip your run, take your car and camera and get a pic of him. Take that to the police as well as post it here. Sad thing is that he is probably the type that can't be spoken to.
  9. Kid, you should also move!
  10. Good pics Ronelle! Get well soon Riaan!Andyr2492010-03-03 04:11:06

  16. Now I learnt something. Bit far from me unfortunately.
  17. But then again a sub 3 Argus has thus far evade me............. Hope to do one this year though. Would've got it last year if the Capies didn't decide to test their wind machine!
  18. It is but not as tricky as everyone made it out to be last year. For me at least. I was expecting it to be much worse than what it really was. Maybe the lower groups had more difficulty.
  19. I did the Komorant short distance and don't even appear on the results page. And they got the timing wrong by quite a bit!
  20. My best was 3:10 in 2006 on a Trek 1500 with 9 speed Ultegra. I started riding in 2002 (racing in 2004 and first Argus in 2005) on dad's old bike which he got in the late 80's early 90's. It was a Panasonic DX5000 with Shimano 6 speed and those toe clip pedals. Still have the bike.
  21. Maybe they want us to ride very fast this year!
