  1. Is today International Identify Pricks Day?
  2. The fault should lay with his team of PA's. They should see when his passport is getting full and apply for a new one before it does get full.
  3. There is a time and place for everything. If it was at a fundraising dinner then that is probably not the place. Can you imagine if everyone at the dinner wanted to have their picture with LA? They would probably still be taking pictures now.
  4. Well he seems happy with it! He should've put it on the couch though!
  5. That may be an exception. In all the years I have done the Argus I have never seen that. And I try get as near to the front as possible. The Argus seems to go to great lengths to ensure that you can only really enter the pens from the back and as such limits those incidences. Wish other races could so something similar. I get to the races early and get a spot near the front. Then a whole lot of monkeys think that they can just push in at the front when the bunch moves forward. If they want to be in the front they should get there early.
  6. Did the search for you: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=68622&KW=
  7. Do a search for Pink (I think). She does the tests. Planning on doing them after Argus.
  8. This one was good: "Adri 3/10/2010 8:21:17 AM Dankie Anton! Ek het al begin dink ek is simpel en alleen omdat ek dit ook soos jy ervaar. Ek kan nie verstaan waarom die fietsryers nie op bane kan gaan oefen soos alle ander sportsoorte nie. Ry liewer al om 'n voetbalveld waar niemand jou sal trap en jy vir niemand 'n irritasie is nie!" Guys, next years Argus is 109km in the velodrome!
  9. Looks great!
  10. If it can pick up 6m away we will finish the race before the finish line? Sounds good! The timing industry needs some competition.
  11. That would be an ok idea but would have to be done through the legal process. And they irritate more motorists by the protest. People are irritated when taxi's protest and block roads. If cyclists did it then it would probably be "adding fuel to the fire" by irritating motorists who are already irritated by cyclists!
  12. Definitely will do that!
  13. Well the whole Argus vibe and taking over a whole city and nobody can do a thing about it! Hehehehehehehehe! Not much of a trip for me apart from the race. Friday evening - fly to CPT. Saturday - collect bike, ride, expo, meet friends in CPT. Sunday - race and in afternoon fly back to JHB.
  14. It was a repeat of last night's show. Saw that they mentioned it which was excellent!
  15. I would say the Argus. Look at the number of Argus related threads compared to the number of Lance threads.
  16. Awesome!!
  17. Ummm, your maths is a little out! Luckily I don't think it is possible to push in at the front at the Argus like normal races. One thing that irritates me riders who take unnecesary risks. I have seen it in the races in February. Some riders overlap wheels so far that their handlebars are almost touch the legs of the two riders on either side.
  18. Ewep, I haven't been able to do the club rides this year so far. February was a hectic month with exams. But the times I do ride I always raise my hand in thanks. You guys do a great job making our club rides safer! Especially at Witkoppen and Cedar! Which intersection are you normally at?
  19. Let him enjoy his last days before visiting Bubba in the Tronk!
  20. I agree, we do need to remove the "us and them" attitude. As far as I have seen on the hub most rantings have been about cyclists and motorists as opposed to cyclists and motorcyclists. If I remember correctly recently there was a thread about motorcyclists ranting about cyclists on a motorcycle forum. So I think it is from both sides. A start would be to get in touch with Supercycling to raise awareness and possible get some channels open for cycling clubs to start working with Think Bike. I am with Cycle Lab Club in Fourways and Think Bike does great work on our club rides, which we appreciate very much. That also hopefully raises some awareness for Think Bike when the motorists and public sees this.
  21. HeadMarshall, the impression I get is that it is more aimed at motorbikes and cycle events use them as marshalls. Maybe more of a joint effort might be good to create more of a cyclist and motorcyclist combination. That could only be beneficial. What about contacting Supercycling to get on the show to promote Think Bike?
  22. Thank you for your inane contribution. Seeing as you don't understand my signature or it's allusions' date=' i can't be bothered to explain it, but look up h-u-m-o-u-r and i-r-o-n-y in your spare time. If you read my post you'll see i indeed made a statement. For the benefit of you and others missing the point i made, let me clarify it. Wearing armbands is a nice sentiment, but aside from creating some brief awareness, its hardly going to make a fundamental change to our driving culture - not to mention or our cycling culture, where fingers can also be justly pointed. For sure, if the publicity around wearing armbands is milked relentlessly, and converted into action, then we're getting somewhere, and ideas for action are where the posts are now thankfully headed. But wearing an armband is not going to change motorists' mindset, so we shouldn't imagine that the changes we need will come simply from doing that. [/quote'] It is at least a start. Even if one motorist stops to think about it and tries to make an effort to change his driving then it will be a success. Nothing will change overnight. But this is a start. You can't get from JHB to CPT in one step. This is the first step. As my teaches told me years ago at school - Big elephant, small pieces! The impression I get is that you are only prepared to do something that will magically change the position and solve the issues overnight in one go. That won't happen! This noble effort is a start! And it is great that Hubbers are prepared to be part of it!
  23. Great post Cat-i!! On Sunday I went for a ride around the Bryanston/Douglasdale area. I stopped at stop streets and robots. Even if I was turning left and could've gone I still stopped. Any drivers who gave me some space while passing or even stayed stopped at an intersection while I passed instead of going infront of me I lifted my hand as a "thank you". At one point I turned left out of Halifax onto Main Road (at Cramerview Shopping Centre) and rode in the emergency lane. As I needed to cross to the right side of the road to turn right into Homestead I saw a white 4X4. I waited and waited for it to pass but the driver indicated to me to cross in front of him. I thanked him. He was behind me in the turning lane and the robot was red for us. Once it was our turn to go and we turned right into Homestead this white 4X4 passed me. I saw that it had a bike on the back! So what we also need to do in addition to what Cat-i posted is when we are driving our vehicles we must treat other cyclists how we would want to be treated while riding.
  24. There are so many riders out that you can just meet up with people along the way.
