  1. Tomtom is getting out of the wearable market, this includes their gps watches. Although Im sure they will still provide support for a while. The problem is that updates might be an issue pretty soon, definitely not a way I will go. Why not look at Suunto? You can pick up the Ambit range at insanely cheap prices, its all you will ever need for running with great battery life as well.
  2. Doing my first Marathon in 10 days. My training peaked at 70km/week. Im sure I can walk the last 7ks????
  3. Do you use a hear rate monitor? Running according to heart rate helped me a lot. Long runs should be in zone 2. Ive noticed that I always did my long runs about 15s too quick. At about 6min/km Im at about 60-70% of threshold.
  4. Between 9 and 10. Earlier would be ideal, but my kids dont agree.
  5. During December I committed to get up at 4 in the morning to run. Due to the heat, and work. First few days was rough, but now Im up at 4 everyday ,even on rest days. That sucks. Amazing how quickly your body adapts. Going to bed in your running kit also helps.
  6. Stolen off the Comrades Facebook site..????
  7. Ive done some reading on morning and evening runs to increase distance. For pure aerobic fitness it doesn’t do much. A 2h easy run is much better stimulis for the aerobic system than two 1h easy runs in one day. There is a benefit when you do two different runs in one day however, ie a tempo and an easy run. But I guess if you want to do 5000km a year you need to run the whole day????
  8. The last few weeks I came to realise how effective really slow easy runs are. From the beginning of December all my long runs were +-30s/km slower compared to the rest of the year. I could run more and for the first time in ages Im not injured. Normally I was buggered for days after my long runs. On top of that my 5km TT time came down by 33s, without me doing any speed work what so ever. Thanks to whoever gave that advice ????
  9. It cant be easy to own a dedicated running shop. You can loose a customer to guys like Poobies in no time. They seem to have stock of everything in all the colours and sizes.
  10. What dog btw? I have proper pepper spray, but forget to take it most of the time. Doubt if it will stop a dog though.
  11. Yes definitely charge him for new shoes, or ask him if he has insurance and put in a proper claim for pain and ptsd.???? This is my biggest fear, I run early mornings, 4ish. Wont even see a dog charging from the dark.
  12. The thing with running shoes is that technology and desigs are constantly changing. Unless you are actually running in a specific pair I dont think you are qualified to comment on them. Running shops should give recommendations based on gait etc. Not personal preference. I tried numerous brands the last year, currently I use Nike. I find them the best fit for my wonky feet, and it’s actually some of the neutral shoes with the best arch support. My local running store guru actually recommended that I keep using them, and they also dont stock Nike. They do sell Adidas though, and its their best seller???? Each to his own I guess.
  13. Thats poor actually. I never trust a salesman that disses one brand in favor of something that he is selling.
  14. Get a GF, asap. You wont even miss the ex or worry about legal crap.
  15. Eccentric calf raises helped a lot for my Achilles issues. Took a few weeks, but never had issues since.
  16. Yes, thats my natural weight. For the last 18odd years. In my serious cycling days it went down to 66/67???? Im built like a female supermodel. Long shot, but is anyone doing the Mielie Marathon in Welkom?
  17. At 70kg and 1.86m Im already underweight, I have to eat like a pig to keep it there, especially now with all the running???? I did more running that I intended for December. Will ease into my marathon and then reset going into the rest of the year. Im really feeling good at the moment and its hard to hold back. Will have to force myself to cut back for the next two weeks.
  18. Of course its a competition, no better motivation than strava!
  19. I am 3 weeks out from my first marathon and I need some tapering advice from the seasoned runners. I tried the google but its a boatload of conflicting advice. Anything from no long runs in the last 4 weeks up to doing doing a long run within th last 7 days. I had a solid December, did a long run today, but I can feel my legs starting to get a little heavy. Do I still do another longish run next week, wich will be exactly 2 weeks from race day?
  20. Funny enough I have more motivation now than earlier in the year. Might be because of my first Marathon coming up in Jan????????
  21. Some water on the belt and my erratic heartbeat seems fix. Im not broken after all ????
  22. Thanks, will try this and the battery!
  23. I dont pay a lot of attention to my heart rate while running, but Ive noticed this on almost all of my runs. My heart rate spikes right from the gun and then drops suddenly after about 5mins, while running the same pace. Is this normal? I guess its just how my body reacts After warming up?
