  1. Any formula you find on the net is hogwash. The only way to find out is on the road. The most accurate I could get was on a 5k run. If you dont pass out or puke at the end you didn't go hard enough.
  2. Sorry guys, they dont have Large or Medium, only 29". ????
  3. Shoe size and shape is a big factor. Personally I think the rule of thumb when it comes to shoe sizing is a load of bull. All my shoes fit with less than 5mm gap at the front, and I never get blisters or black nails. Not even on steep downhill trail runs. If your shoes are too big you get forward movement and it puts pressure on your toes.
  4. Some motivation for the week. Something all runners can take from this is the consistent splits. Even at that pace he kept enough in the tank for a negative split. Without pacemakers.????
  5. Kipchoge said afterwards that he wants to run a sub 2:01. He probably only has 2 or 3 competitive marathons left in him. Berlin next year might be even more spectacular.
  6. Like one of the commentators said, after seeing this effort he believes that sub 2 will never be broken. Today was just the perfect run. I dont think sub 2 will be broken in the next 30 years. It will take some brilliant science and or chemicals.
  7. Looking at the specs that is nothing more than a R4499 bike. With a Cannondale decal for the brand conscious.
  8. If the specs are as advertised they can keep the warranty.
  9. If I remember correctly that was Guye Adola at Berlin last year, he ended up running a sub 2h04 marathon. Second fastest debut ever.
  10. I've been following some of his training recently. Its just insane. Running 10 x 1km repeats starting at 2m40/km and going progressively faster. He is not human.
  11. Depends on the "special" announcement.
  12. I supertuck when running down hill. Kills my knees though.
  13. Did my first proper race for the season on Saturday. Only 21.1km, but a good way to guage my fitness for the upcoming qualifiers. I didn't expect much because over the last 3 or 4 month I didn't do much more than slow base miles. In the end I ran 1h40, new PB by 5 minutes. If everything goes according to plan a sub 4 marathon should be doable.
  14. I did, and the reason I missed comrades this year. Same reason, I ramped up my training in December without a proper base, and end of Feb I had a proper case of AT. Two months of almost no running and doing calf raises religiously is all that helped.
  15. On a long run a few weeks ago some strange old timer decided to join in and spoil my me time. For the next 8 odd km he rambled on about +11 hours not being a finish in his book. Ironically the last time he ran Comrades was 10 years ago. Personally if I can just finish next year I will be well chuffed.
  16. Does anyone have stats? Im sure a 4h15 or even 4h30 qualifier would exclude way more than half of Comrades runners.
  17. Do they really care if an extra 5000 runners pull out at halfway? Maybe they plan on making it 4h30...????
  18. I see that CMA are reviewing the whole Comrades entry process, incl qualifying times and entry fees. Wonder if qualifying times will be relaxed and fees increased. I think they saw last year that they can seriously capatalize on the Parkrun boom. Anyhow, entries wont open on 1 September. We can probably expect a rush when it does eventually open.
  19. After trying all of the above I started doing glute exercises and my ITB disappeared. It all depends on the cause.
  20. Almost 2 years since I got rid of my ITBs, that fear never goes away.
  21. KT tape reduced my medial shin splint pain almost immediately. To the point where I could keep running until it disappeared completely.
  22. They are definitely comfortable on easy long runs. This morning I did a 10k tempo run and I laboured all the way, almost 2 mins slower than last week. Its probably not fair to rate them on what they aren't designed for.
  23. While on the Hoka subject, who else is running with the Cliftons? I bought a pair a few months ago, but I just dont feel the hype. They feel very sluggish and heavy. Maybe Im just used to the more responsive ride of Nike.
