Yes, the brakes aren't all that. I have a set and as much as they look cool, they don't work as well as they should. Having said that I can't complain about the machining, seems well made.

I don't know about beacons, then they become a safety hazard... Also, I don't know if following the hard line of DQ'ing will help because it becomes like a "Devil" race, gutter them till the cross the line and they are out! But hey, there will still be okes taking chances and hoping nobody saw them...

Yes, saw all the foreigners riding without helmets today... Also saw OB motor pacing on the freeway without a helmet behind what looked like a Vito doing 80km/h in the slow lane and he was gesturing wildly at the driver to go faster!!!

We went down this road 2 years ago about the white line... Perhaps what is needed is for someone to take the racing categories and the CSA officials to task about safety... Somehow I can see it falling on deaf ears, something about guttering being a tactic...

I think they are, but I think the company rebranded because back then they use to use a logo that had a globe (like world map) with some sort of sash or banner around it... and some Italian flag in it... Now they don't even show that logo...

Yes, I remember Alan bikes, I had two in the early 90's. They used to also make really beautiful Alu bikes with annodised tubing, mostly black and blue tubing with the silver lugs. Sadly it was that same bonding technique that let them down terribly. My second Alan which I bought (actually my mum bought) for me came unstuck at the down tube! Saw my noguht that day! Nobody was able to successfully bond it again and eventually Tony Pedro at Cycle Logic in Durban managed to join it with a pop rivette. It was never the same... Those days bike insurance was something only Pro's had...
