  1. What's your age ? (If I may be so bold) Average speed and distances on your rides. There are a number of groups.
  2. Did this today - sweet. It is not the same one as it was many years ago but I like it and it feels like a breeze. Will become a regular. Do not like the section from the circle at the nursery to about 100m past the traffic lights.
  3. Super Mario !!!! Had a puncture at traffic lights at Ocean View a while ago when a lady in a car turned around pulled in next to me asked if I was ok and stayed put till I was back on the bike again. There are those out there - more than gems.
  4. Some tyre levers are shaped in such a way that they can also be used as brake piston spacers and are readily available at your LBS.
  5. I live at the graveyard and mostly I cycle up towards Disa and then down Valley (But that is also to add 10 km to my ride) Do you go through Ruyterplaats and can that be done with a road bike?
  6. Please please please do not forget it is there
  7. It usually happens in front of the graveyard and lower down to the circle at the police station. Most happen within 100m of the entrance to the settlement at the graveyard. It is scary how often it actually happens and most cyclists are not aware of the danger in that area.
  8. And train and practice while on your bike. (remember this leaves only one hand on the bike)
  9. You can get a tracker and there are many forms of them. A tracker however does not mean that you can retrieve your bike though.
  10. So how come you know actual bike jackers ??? 😜
  11. Nope not open officially. Ride at your own peril. TMNP does not want it used.
  12. Nah !! I think they are going to stick it out a while !! 😜 (want to make a wager ??)
  13. This happened here in Hout Bay. Tourists WARNED about the dangers of walking down a section of road. Chose to do so anyway and were promptly robbed of everything. Informed choice made - YES.
  14. And you know that that does not happen. People more often than not do not make informed choices. And good sources of information are not always readily available.
  15. Fair enough ! And yes it is a full time job and an income has to be generated.
  16. Sad thing is that the baseball bat has hit you before you realize it is even there. This was the modus operandi in a number of incidents in Stellenbosch. And they were visible from a distance.
  17. Do not agree with you. It's called ripping people off. I believe in fair deal setup fair price for both seller and buyer - that was really what the ethos was about for the classifieds. It has now become a commercial venture - fair enough not my forum. But now you have the middle man who exploits both the seller (low price) and also the buyer (high price) and some make a killing for doing what ??? It was initially clearly stated that the intention was a win/win situation for the cycling community. For it to be viable you need "foot traffic" which is what the forum brought but I suspect the numbers are falling.
  18. Your arm would have been broken by the baseball bat before you could reach it - firearm gone.
  19. In Cape Town there is a company that repairs kitesurfing kite bladders they could fix it. My son fixes his with some specific glue - will ask him which glue but it does cost two arms and a leg.
  20. After having sort of studied an number of incidents that happened a few years ago especially the ones in the Helderberg/Stellenbosch region I came to the conclusion that any form of defence you may carry is actually false security and sometimes more of a danger to yourself. It just happens to quick and unexpectedly. They use the element of surprise. The worst thing you can do is carry a firearm and the "best" is to carry peppers pray (the jet stream one) attached with velcro to your chest where you can grab it (not from under clothing) and the chances of being able to use it is slim. You have to be PARAAT - be aware of your surroundings ALL the time and take precautionary action well before the time when you still can. Turn around if you can and don't CONFRONT. Get out away from the situation. (The items you have there you could not use effectively and safely)
  21. My *** Marilize Was inevitable for sure. Would like to see the numbers for bikehub. Typed f.o.k. and not ***. One thing in life is for sure and that is change.
  22. You've got me thinking. I like variety mostly. Do not leave out the techie bits where you have to apply your mind and have honed some skills to get through. Hate it when they dumb down some parts of trails because it is too "difficult" or slows you down.
  23. If you are starting out I would suggest that you go with flat pedals it's just good for confidence.
  24. And here sir is part of your problem The answer to great brakes is to service and bleed your own brakes Really not difficult and with a bit of practice not messy either.
