  1. Stop thinking about it. Just enter!
  2. Also look at your week leading up to the race. Some short but high intensity intervals the night before gets the muscles going and makes a huge difference to your starts.
  3. Oh yes!! Welcome back! This was my very first race ever. I've missed the last couple before it was stopped as it was the weekend before sani2c. Looking forward to this one again! Booked and entered!
  4. Congrats on the win dude!
  5. I did?? I honestly can't remember. What I do remember is that I definitely didn't ride last year's descent. I had a 1 year old at home so my medical aid was long gone! Couldn't afford to take any chances. ;-) This year I'll be klapping a portage again. I now have a 2 year old and a 3 month old, that broken clavicle won't go down well with the folks at Discovery. No shame in going for a leisurely stroll down that mountain.
  6. Interesting that the XCO guys keep on whipping the Marathion riders. I understand that their conditioning will be tops as we are smack bang in the XCO season but surely the Marathon guys would've built up to this race. I guess the fact that the race finished with a large singletrack section in Cascades also played a big role.
  7. Great showing by Daryl. 22nd in a strong filed takes some doing. Getting straight into it today with a summit finish on stage 1! Should be a cracker! Today will already give a lot away in terms of who'll be wearing yellow in Paris next month.
  8. Sjo, big move!
  9. I saw that Vulture trail photo on instagram. Looks pretty hectic but the views look sweet. I have no idea where that trail is though, but if Erik says it's gnarly I'll stay away. I remember not thinking much of it when he said Pofadder is tough... It was an eina day... (with some awesome views)
  10. Sani2c makes you fall in love with smooth, manicured trails. All our trails up in GP are really rocky... still fun, but rather tough. I've come to the conclusion that Sani makes you soft...

  12. I'm in. Looking forward. I rode 6 hours on the Nissan Marathon last year. Snapped my gear cable early in the race and rode single speed for most of it. Needless to say, I'm still not keen on joining the ss revolution. Looking forward!
  13. Some really awesome shots! It just keeps on getting better. Let's hope my little guy can pull this one through!
  14. Cool, thanks. I remember that last year ended up being 74km, therefore my question.
  15. Wessel, will the Marathon be 70km or 75km?
  16. I'm in E for the Marathon. Index of 47. Have a mate starting in F, so I'll probably drop down to ride with him. The first 12 odd kms are open district roads so it spreads the field quite well, but there's almost always congestion at the cave. If that is still in... apparently it's a brand new route.
  17. That must've made for a rather uncomfortable day 1... ouch!
  18. They just posted on fb that there are limited entries still available after some people didn't pay within the 2 day cutt off. So, if you're still looking for an entry, hurry!
  19. Thanks to IdeJongh for his spare entry! I'm in for the Marathon!
  20. Correct. Many, like me, looking for an entry.
  21. Looking for a marathon entry, if anyone can't make it.
  22. Day 2 is tough in anyone's book. Manage yourself and take it easy. Eat and drink lots. It's easy to worry about other things and forget to eat and drink. Stop when you have to and take a break. Like I said, last yeat was a nightmare for me, but I was never close to a cutt off.
  23. I have a 2 year old who brings many a different bug from creche. He had the RS virus less than a month before sani last year. It's a contagious respiratory viruses. I was sick the entire April and although I did decent mileage during the first part of the year I did very little just before sani. I felt ok enough to ride when May arrived. Did a long ride 2 weekends before sani and managed. Day 1 came and from the gun my legs felt heavy. Riding in a group, as soon as the trail tilted upwards I slipped out the back. I finished relatively comfortably but knew that things weren't all good. Day 2 was a nightmare. I felt a tightness in my lungs throughout the day and found myself flat on my back cramping like a beyotch for the better part of the last half of the race. Don't know how I finished. Nursed it home on Day 3. Highlight was my partner breaking a chain, giving me some time to spend on my back in the bush. In 2013 I was 5kgs lighter than 2012, where I finished comfortably, but the bug just broke me down badly. This year I'm popping multi-vits like a junkie! Still good... touch wood.
  24. Only at the Sani2c Race, not the Adventure or Trail? That's disappointing. Will the units at least be on sale at registration for the Trail and the Adventure?
