  1. Whatever you choose, make sure your sealant is topped up. I'd even add some more than usual. They do not joke when they call it "thornveld". I ride an Onza Ibex on the front and a Maxxis Ikon on the back. Enjoying the combination of the fast rolling Ikon and grippy Ibex.
  2. You need to have enough resistance, i.e. big enough gear, on your wheel, otherwise you are just going to fall through the pedal stroke. The rhythm comes from being able to sustain your cadence throughout the entire pedal stroke. It's easiest to practice this on a spinning bike.
  3. How many laps are they racing? Sam has a 13 second gap over Alan after lap 5. 13 seconds aren't much.
  4. Hatherly and Jessop racing at the moment. From the live timing, it looks like Hatherly has had a mechanical or something. Not getting his splits. EDIT: Scratch that. Just updated. He is in third after two laps.

  6. I rode with my wife last year and decided to take the mtb. I rode my tyres on 4 bar. No issues and rolled well. You don't need a seeding to race, but without a seeding you will start right at the back somewhere around 10. If you can get into a charity or corporate bunch you're starting time will be somewhere between 8 and 9, which makes a big difference in the heat.
  7. Yeah, I'm following too. Kevin doing really well. Lots still to happen. Not having dedicated checkpoints but having to find an open spot in the small towns to refuel puts a very different spin on it. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  8. I'm quite the Oakley fan but those helmets just don't do it for me.
  9. It's a $200 mil fight, part of which was parading around the US and Europe and building hype. McGregor wasn't paid to box for 12 rounds, he was paid to be part of the biggest/most expensive fight boxing has ever seen, and that includes running your mouth at pressers and promotions across the world to get the maximum hype for this fight. Let's be honest, McGregor Mayweather fever resurrected the sport of boxing which was, and probably now again is, pretty much dead. When last did you wake up early on a Sunday morning for a boxing match? Yes, probably two and half years ago for the disappointing Mayweather Pacquiao fight. Before that, no one remembers. Conor McGregor's introduction to the boxing ring resurrected the sport of Boxing. Think of the millions of people who followed the pre-fight antics and the actual fight that have never watched a boxing match in their life. Most (and I include myself here) don't even know a name of a current boxer other than Mayweather and McGregor. My point is, all the big talk and hype prior to the fight worked like a charm. Colin McGregor resurrected the sport of boxing... all under the auspices of executive producer, Floyd Mayweather.

Now to make it count at Cairns! Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  11. I would not pay for shipping, that's for sure. When you sell me a defective product, you carry the cost of repair, not me. Customer service in the cycling industry is non existent unfortunately. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  12. True, that miniscule amount of clen would have no benefit at that late stage in the Tour. However, how it got there was the question. The steak story was rather dumb. Remember he was tested every day and then had the positive after the rest day. So, the most plausible theory is that the clen came into his system along with some new blood he topped up over the rest day. He did dope, it was rather obvious. After he came back from his ban he never got back to being the El pistelero of old. Absolutely destroying every one on the climbs. I'll never forget that 2008 Giro. Man, one of the toughest Grand Tours in memory! Those long range attacks in the high mountains. Absolutely slaying the rest of the race. Loved it! And who can forget that attack in the 2014 Vuelta on a flat day to take the lead from Purito. I still feel for Purito. One feels that if there was one GT that he really deserved it was that one. But Contador had other plans... Bike racing at it's best! Not even to mention winning a Tour de France while you're on the same team as the biggest name in the sport vying for a fairy tale comeback story. Yes, he needed some "help" to up his oxygen carrying capacity, but that he's the most exciting (and successful) Grand Tour bike racer of our generation is undoubted. It's the right time for him to go, but that the sport is poorer for him leaving is for sure.

    Trans Baviaans 2017

Sharp drop in temperatures... just in time for Saturday. Better pack those layers...
  14. See no reason why not. If it floats your boat, go for it.
  15. Lag Ons Lekker. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  17. Rode back home from Red Barn a few years back. I stared at a train that was passing and rode smack bang into a rode barrier. Over the bars, broken seat post, 3 stitches in knee... It helps to look where you are going. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  18. I understand what you're feeling. It's not as much the race as there'll be another one next year, but the feeling of being really fit after training so hard and now it feels as if it's all been for nothing. If it was me, I would shift my goal by a few weeks. Think about something like Trans Karoo that's a month after Baviaans. It gives you a few extra weeks to recover and you'll still draw from your Baviaans prep fitness bank. The problem with riding Baviaans is that the section between checkpoint 1 and 2 are heavily corrugated. That is the section that'll put the most pressure on your wrist and it's really early in the day. If you start hurting there you're going to struggle to hold onto the handlebar on all of the descents to follow. Put yourself at the foot of NeverEnder at 10 at night with a severely inflamed and sore wrist. 40 odd kms to go, a 13km drag/climb to come. It just does not sound like good place to be.
  19. I'm 1.77 and on a 18.5 Medium. Theoretically that is the perfect fit, also taken into account in-seam. Remember that fit is a combination of height and in-seam. This is the theory:
  20. Apparently Quintana has offers from Sky and Astana. Can't see him getting a Tour spot as the leader in sky. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
  21. Rumour has it that Landa is off to Movistar next year.
