  1. Looks like a lekker play thing ????
  2. Depends on where and what you want to ride but I would keep it rigid. Then you need to decide if you want to keep it singlespeed or slap some gears on it. What is your budget for the transformation as you would need to decide on brakes as well... Cable discs, hydraulic, or cable hydraulic.... see it opens a whole can of worms... BUT its a lekke road to walk with them worms Im just waiting on my cranks then Ill have something in ti to post here
  3. Hi Wayne They are mainly from China but with the current state of affair in terms of shipping from there i would rather buy on Amazon. Mucg safer and the shipping is actually very quick. Mostly via DHL and delivered in some cases in under a week from state side. Here is a link to a similar adapter available on Amazon ( same manufacturer as the earlier one i posted) https://www.amazon.com/Baoblaze-Aluminum-Converter-Adapter-Bracket/dp/B07C2S7GM2/ref=sr_1_44?dchild=1&keywords=26+inch+to+700c+v+brake+adapter&qid=1620640591&sr=8-44 For a disc brake convertion you could use one of these on the frame. How sturdy they are I cannot say as I have not used one before and Im a bit sceptical BUT I have read a few reviews where people have used them without any issues.... If you Google a bit I see there is more robust version around but I have not found any for sale yet.... https://www.amazon.com/Diameter-Converter-Mounting-Adjustable-Seatposts/dp/B089S425M1/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=bicycle+disc+brake+frame+adapter&qid=1620641039&sr=8-2
  4. Not so tough with these little magafters....
  5. Can be done... Did exactly that on one of my builds. You just need to open the clamp a bit and you will need a slightly longer clamp bolt to secure. Pictures here: https://cdn.bikehub.co.za/uploads/monthly_10_2020/post-7810-0-69556100-1601633684.jpg Alternatively you could use a barend shifter like this
  6. You answered yourself right here .^^^^^^^^^^^^

  8. For a simple but effective tensioner you can use a ghost ring...
  9. So after I was forced to sell my steel gravel bike earlier in the year I was gutted being without a bike once again so i set about building myself a gravelbike with scraps and bits of what i had laying around that I accumalated over the years.... It started off with Campy 1x 10 using shifters i bought here on the Hub a long time ago and a long cage Record RD running 11- 40 flawlessly. Left shifter at this stage was stripped out to just be a brake lever. Then i got a bee in the bonnet to convert the frame even further to full internal routing and ended up with my shift cable housing being too short to run the Record Rd so being a self confessed cheapskate and not really having the means to even buy that i thought what the heck just try it and I fitted my XO 11speed Type 2 RD with and what do you know.... Campy 10speed shifter and XO 11 speed RD now works flawlessly together on my Frankenbike... I call it that as this frame started its life as a 26er Giant XTC frame.... So a couple of days ago the shifter that was actually giving problems from the beginning with sometimes not shifting down now desided it had enough so i desided one more mod probably wont be that bad and I went about it again, Stripped out the shifter to now just be a brake lever and fitted the matching XO 11speed thumb shifter to the drop bar with very little mods. Actually just needed to bend the clamp open a bit and use a longer bolt to clamp it down and voila no bucks spent and my bike is still fully operational. So all in all a moerse build from stuff I already had in my parts bin. Its still not my steel bike but it gets me around so still pretty chuffed. So just some inspiration to anyone that is thinking of building a gravel bike, having a thumb shifter on the drop bar is also a option and still leaves you ample hand positions on the bar...
  10. Are you talking wide or W I D E? ????
  11. Microshift does a 9speed clutch derailleur https://everydaymtb.com/microshift-announces-a-new-9-speed-system-with-clutch/
  12. I like a satin finish also as it does not show scrathes or stains as quickly as a highly polished blade. But after doing alot of super shiny and alot of satin blades i still prefer the "bushcraft" rough look as it just lasts and lasts for every day use without having to worry about scratches and stuff
  13. Here is what i mean.... again some might like it and some wont, I do coz its for me... Sorry if its not really pocket knife size but most that i make is small enough for EDC, this one was an exception....
  14. Yeah pretty cool... You will have fun making it and it will be cool nevermind the outcome coz at the end of the day its something that YOU made for yourself. #handgemaak and nothing beats that... All my knifes you can still see file marks etc to give that hand gemaak look or bushcraft feel (like the last one i showed you)... If i want a fully polished and blink knife i can go an buy it in the shop
  15. Think i should etch something like that on my next blade
  16. You know what guys, dont be too hard on the one post wonder... As the saying goes haters will hate... It is what it is, not everyone will always be liked and also not all ones followers are always your fans... But at the end of the day how we handle things is what makes us stand out above the rest.... I for one will always paint and be around bicycles. As i told someone earlier in the week i was 4 years old (jip thats the honest truth) when i painted my 1st object, at 10 painted my 1st bicycle and from there on and through most of my career i have almost always been involved with paint. Age 4 was also coinsidently the age i started riding my dad's old dikwiel haha with my legs magled through the frame and underneath the top tube but i rode it... So the moral of the story I have been around bicycles and paint for a good 40 years of my 45 years on this earth and i will be around them for as long as my health allows and i will create art as long as my love for it persist. Some will like it and some wont but thats life and anyone has their right to an opinion but people should learn to respect one another. At the end of the day we all just want our little piece under the sun. So enjoy bicycles, enjoy life and ride safely and have a good holiday season Cheers
  17. Your superglue tip from way back when have saved me from plenty of blood loss during some of those accidental diy home surgeries

  19. GOEIE @#@%$@ amper se ek iets wat my geban sal laat word... R1100 inspection fee No wonder my bank balance looks so K@K.... For what its worth though glad you got sorted in the end mate and always happy to give advice when and where i can, have never made any secret about that Remember to post the new ride ne En moenie weer neer bliksem nie
  20. Normally its the frame warranty card that gets played but in general i think there is more to it than that. I have given up trying. Just as a matter of interest on this point... I was recently contacted by one of the well know factories in the east for a well known big brand name to do custom paintwork on some frames as it was cheaper for them to courier to me and have it done here and courier back than anywhere else in the world... At the end of the day as with most things in SA at the moment you get things not on merit anymore but through who you know where... so as I said it is what it is and we make do with what we got....
  21. This is very true but unfortuanately as shaper for instance and a few others have pointed out and yourself there is no governing body for the carbon trade... Especially when it comes to bicycles so thats what makes it easy for any jack and jill to buy a pap and lap kit and start doing it... The panelshop industry i know well and have had shops taken off insurance panels in the past for not adhering to the standards... As far as getting OEM approval for bicycles in SA from the manufacturers, thats a story and a half.... Abroad there are many many refurbishers with certified refinishing approvals but us in SA dont get that unfortunately. And although I get work from some brands directly on occasion and refferals also directly from some brands I still can not get dedicated OEM refinishing accreditation like my counterparts abroad. But it is what it is so we make do with what we got.
  22. I totally agree with you specially with some of the k@k repairs i have seen over the years... At the end of the day I always choose my jobs when it comes to repairs and i put my clients risk factor first... If there is any possibility that a failure in the future could cause any harm to my client i will not take on the job simple as that. And a lot of clients have in the past got annoyed with me for declining repairs because a certain repair place can easily repair it and im not reffering to my colleague Carbon Ninja Anyway i need to get some work done... You boys play nice now
  23. To be honest and this is just what i have observed over the years is that I really dont think that it is the Insurance company that is pushing for the repairs, its the people on the ground doing the legwork(assessors if you like) that gets fed snippets of info of an industry that most of them dont know anything about. So yes i will call it what its is, everything revolves around money so whenever someone sees a gap to score a few bucks they will promote that avenue to the max. Hence my statement in my previous post of many questions that can be asked... SO there i fired a shot And no this shot not aimed at you shaper
  24. I say again that both Graeme and myself have answered all questions truthfully and openly and have not tried to pull the wool over anyone's eyes to the regard of the carbon trade as it stands in SA. So i ask again why do we need to take the brunt of any scrutiny if we have nothing to to with this particular repair and have only given advice and insight. I for one do not work for insurance companies as such nor do i do for for bike shops in general except 1 in Cpt and 1 in Jhb. I solely do work for private individuals. Also as far as i have read from the start this repair was not pushed from thw start by the insurance company but was recommended by someone from the 3rd bike shop it was taken to and only taken for 1 repair quote there after so many questions can be asked... But clearly some people are very short sighted on this forum so its useless to try and educate. At the end of the day all i can say to the OP is as i said originally that its his bike and if he does not feel comfortable to have it repaired he has the right to opt for a cash payout from Santam to replace on his own accord. Im insured through Santam with a brilliant broker.
