  1. Mainly by visual inspection and sound checks to determine the difference in pitch in areas of concern and generally over the complete frame if it was involved in a crash or incident. In the near future i will be able to actually look at the tubes on the inside as far as possible. Which will make assessments easier as to the extent of internal damages once my endoscope arrives. Unfortunately i do not have access to Xray equipment... Yet...
  2. Was never a choice to run this as a business. I was forced to due to retrenchments. You are making assumptions without knowing anything about me so rather stop there. As i said in a previous post, i choose my jobs thank you Anyway im sure the OP has received more than enough information on his initial question regarding his bike. I also dont see the company who did the quote on his bike giving any comments here and i do not see why either myself nor Carbon Ninja need to take the brunt of being scrutinised for merely giving a educated opinion. So peace out and have a lekker day
  3. To call BS on someone without knowing that persons financial status is uncalled for so your statement is uncalled for. If you can afford R6000 a year good for you. Me on the other hand with a current bank balance of R7 , Yes you read it right R7, so when i say i cant afford it I cant damn well afford it. Just stop for one second and think that not everybody on here is actually in the same situation as what you are. Not everyone on here can afford the best of everything. FFS.
  4. Look at the end of the day no area on a bike is not repairable... Should it be done? Probably not... Could it be done? It certainly could as anything is possible with carbon... Will I do it for a client.... it depends on the circumstances... Will i do it for myself HELL YESS. If i die riding it i die doing something i love. At the end of the day though when it comes down to the business aspect of it choose to do the right thing and dont be scaly about it.
  5. This is a valid question and also why I choose my jobs carefully when it comes to repairs as not all repairs are equal. To carry the insurance is very expensive and I for one can not afford it. Therefor when a repair is a dangerous repair i would much rather walk away and loose the income. Not because i doubt in my ability or the quality of my repair but merely for the peace of mind of what if and not being overly arrogant. And i say again and i will say it over and over, my clients lives are more important than me making a few bucks or them saving a few.
  6. Pop me a mail with some ideas of what you have in mind and we can chat yeah
  7. Happy to hear
  8. Yeah even one of the photos i sent to the client looks shocking i must say. It seems there are way too many people here that has never had a bad or off day that can not make a mistake and is just perfect in everything they do hey. I say again, the client never made contact with me stating any form of unhappiness or anything and if he would have done so I would have gladly sorted out whatever he was unhappy about, no questions whatsoever as that is just how i am. But to get this two months down the line on an open forum basicly dragging me through the mud without giving me a fair chance to rectify whatever he is unhappy about says a hell of a lot and NOT about me my friend. SO thank you for your comment yeah. Thanks and happy Hubbing
  9. Jip, old school in the fire until i can afford to build a propper forge.
  10. Jaja make a couple and we can talk again about being critical. This is for me so dont really care about nitty gritties like that. These are purely for enjoyment and not masterpieces. Although it cuts my biltong like a hot knife through butter thank you very much
  11. Pins i get from China as its the most cost effective... Locally its just too expensive. Steel I mainly use reclaimed material as its also the most cost effective way at the moment for me. Old saw blades, files, leaf springs etc. If you need steel to practice let me know and ill hook you up.
  12. Some woodwork recently completed on one of my other hobbies...
  13. Redoing the bike would not be a issue as i have always said that if someone has an issue they can contact me at any time. I have never shyed away fram that and never would. In this instance I have never been contacted or told that there is any form of unhappines or that the client is unsatisfied other than these photos posted on open forum more than 2months down the line. If you are unhappy speak to me directly and give me the opportunity to rectify whatever you are unhappy with. But to go about it this way,Im sorry this is not the way to do things. Im sure you would feel the same if someone did the same with one of your surfboards not true?
  14. Altough you are spot on regarding accreditation etc just keep in mind that some of us have actually done courses and have been doing it for longer than what most people have been cycling, then there are people like Graeme Kidson who actually has an engineering degree in composites and is one of the people i would trust with something like this if it was mine. So some of us would actually know a thing or two when it comes to the building or repairing of frames etc. But as i said before the OP should not have this repaired if he does not feel comfortable. He as the insured have the right to choose the repairer or opt for a cash pay out should they not be able to replace his frame with the exact same frame so that he can replace it himself.
  15. To be honest that can be repaired BUT i would trust only 3 people to do it... And thats not just a simple lap and pap job either. If you do not feel comfortable to have it repaired then DONT. You have the right to tell that to your insurance. Also for a head tube to snap like that the steerer tube of the fork is bound to have some damage even if not visible to the naked eye. Think twice before having it repaired mate. As i always say your life is more important than saving or making a couple of bucks.
  16. The "headbadge" on Look695's frame.... judge for yourself....
  17. Saw this the other day while searching on the net...
  18. Trust me when you swing your leg over this you wont even think or worry about what it weighs... That is all day comfort right there... Been riding my preproduction model since last year and dont even look at anything else anymore, ITS JUST THAT GOOD... Just a reminder of what it looks like Here with its new 700 x 45c rubber
  19. Very nice indeed... Very similar to this tho.. https://opencycle.com/UP
  20. Not a huge selection available locally in any case no matter where you look. Chain Reaction is a good place to look...
  21. Hehe i actually like the brushed steel look with the exposed welding on the frame... Hence only painting the fork but i have been playing around with some ideas for a new look so maybe in the near future... Who knows... Tires are Specialized Sawtooth 700 x 42c 2Bliss. Very nice tires indeed, rolls nice both on and off road with enough grip on the rough stuff.
  22. Had to look twice now.... Then saw nah not your size ????
  23. Nice vintage Cinelli Pista from 1959 meticulously restored from bare metal...
