  1. Firstly Left and right measurement is not a necessity. Secondly all the pedal based systems seem to have big compromises. Look and Garmin have the ugly potentially vulnerable pods and PT has the bulky look and high stack height. Crank base systems look cleaner, offer excellent accuracy , consistency, repeatability and reproducability at a lower cost. These systems are also quite a bit lighter and far less vulnerable.
  2. Road clipless balance rearward to aid the rider finding the front hook for the cleat. It makes entry to the engagement more consistent. MTB pedals are dual sided so engagement is easier anyway Looking at the bulk and compromise the pedal based systems have to work around I'm still leaning toward a crank based systems like stages or 4iiii Precision

  8. I believe the 2016 and 2017 plan was to run the engine in the red Bull under the Lamborghini or Bugatti names until the team would rebranded to wahtever Volkswagen wants to call the team. Audi Volkswagen Auto Union Bugatti take your pick. Red Bull needed to get out of the Renault contract to make this happen and Renault gave them the perfect excuse by delivering grenades instead of F1 engines. The plan, whatever it is has obviously come unstuck now with VW embroiled in an emissions cheating scandal

  11. All power meters take rolling resistance into account. The Kickr simulates the rolling resistance. Tacx models takes into account the friction of the tyre at the drum hence the constant need to calibrate these at every opportunity. When using an IDT its never going to give you exactly the same numbers as if you were on the road. Even then your PM is not going to give you exactly the same readings on two rides on the same route on different days. Since the Kickr strips out the tyre drum interface it is always going to be more consistent than any PM that includes tyre to surface friction in the direct measurement

  13. Because they already have an engine supply lined up?can't see any other reasons why they would fire Renault a year early. Rbr aren't stupid. They must know what they doing. Obtaining ferrari or Mercedes-Benz engines isn't going to happen and they know it. There are rumours vw has an engine but the Vw plans were for a works outfit. I suspect we may still see a vw engine in the rb and rebranded in the toro rosso

  19. "gold" sponsorship is just a 2nd tier sponsor who has bought space on the teas kit. They will be providing financial backing compared to an equipment supplier who will either sell the team its racing hardware at factory price or donate it free in exchange for exposure of technical development requirements that said manufacturer may have. DD is the title sponsor so they will cover operating costs of the team and salaries

  21. Tost is not being totally honest. Looking at the pace Sainz had before he parked behind vestappen he could probably have made an attack on perez. But once behind vestappen he couldn't stay too close since he also had to look after his tyres. Sainz probably figured the team would use the team order earlier instead of waiting till the 11 th hour. This new tyre limited f1 reduces racing to the slowest pace. Pretty pathetic.
  22. an F1 budget would be spread across all their major brands so likely the works team will be Auto Union and customer engines badged accoriding to the other brands contribution to the project..
