  1. I finally upgraded my old 3x gearing last year to SLX 1x12 and a Sunrace casette. A couple of friends have gone this route and are extremely happy with it. I'm however not impressed. Gear changes aren't smooth and very clunky, and recently it developed another issue, which I haven't seen on the hub yet. When gearing down the bottom jockey wheel (if that's what you call it) doesn't move back to keep the chain tight, so the chain starts to hang. If I push it forward and let go it snaps back to hold the chain tight, but I have to do this every time I've gone up a few gears and then down again. I took it back to my LBS, at very short notice and not a lot of time for them to work on it. So kudos to them for still helping me out. He said they cleaned it out and correctly torqued something. Upon collection I went for a short ride, gearing felt a little better and derailleur seemed fine. Very next day I take my bike out and chain is sagging again, even worse than before. I'm a 3 hour drive away from my LBS so can't quickly take it back and leave it there to have them sort it out. Has anyone experienced this before and have some advice on what I can do to solve this?
  2. yeah that one climb takes max effort just to get up it Thanks for the advice gents.
  3. I've noticed lately that when I feel good (and fast) on the bike it doesn't necessarily mean I am. I have a couple of segments that I created on my usual routes, and most of them are short but very steep hills. For example: 1) 760m at avg 9.1% gradient; 2) 330m at avg 18% gradient and 3) 850m at avg 8% gradient. Some days I go hard at these climbs and I think I'm smashing it, but my time then says otherwise and I might not even be in my top 10 efforts. Other days I take it easy and then almost get a PR. Could it be that the segments are too short to accurately calculate times? I use a Fenix 3 by the way. Anyone else ever experience this?
  4. I also didn't like the angle of the top tube at first, but it has grown on my the more I see it. But for now I have no reason (or bucks) to trade in my Stage!
  5. That sounds fairly good. Cheapest I could get for my bike (R70k replacement value) was between R400 and R500 with Outsurance.
  6. Very valid question. How would they know if I damage my bike today, but activate the insurance tomorrow and claimed it happened then? I am tempted to give this a go though. Where I live the risk of my bike being stolen or hijacked is very low, so I just can't justify paying a couple hundred bucks every month for insurance I would rarely need. It would be cool to activate insurance only when I go to town for a couple of days and I take my bike with.
  7. I hope so, as I'd love to get one but just can't justify spending R15 000+ on a trainer.
  8. The normal 3 Everything else works fine. It was just nice getting notifications especially on long rides, so you can see if it is someone or something important that requires stopping and responding
  9. For some reason notifications from my phone won't come through on the watch anymore. I've updated the app on phone and watch, reset both numerous times, checked all settings on phone to allow notifications, removed the watch from devices and added it again. Still nothing, niks, nada. Keep on getting message on phone that notifications have stopped unexpectedly... Anyone else experience this?
  10. If conservation shut down, it would be the same as shops closing but leaving all the doors open. Don't expect anything to be left when you get back in 3 weeks time!
  11. Same with Conservation/Anti poaching
  12. I see your 2 000ha and I raise you 30 000ha Game reserve I live on is also closed down, and all non essential staff like general assistants are going home today. Only reserve management and field rangers left. FR's are stationed in remote camps, so absolutely no chance of coming across ANYONE. I have to keep on working unfortunately (at home or office, makes no difference), but will definitely be riding after work and on weekends

    Cricket......

That's the thing about T20 cricket, anyone can beat anyone on the day.

From Firdose Moonda, I like this piece about AB, sums him up quite brilliantly: "While de Villiers yo-yoed between wanting to be the best batsman in the world to wanting to keep wicket, to having a bad back and not wanting to keep wicket, to wanting to support Hashim Amla as Test captain, to admitting to feeling let down that he wasn't named captain, to threatening to retire early because of his heavy workload, to taking a sabbatical, du Plessis was there, consistently being consistent." https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/28723721/faf-du-plessis-gave-all-south-africa-take-anymore

    Cricket......

Firstly, great T20 and ODI series against the poms! Finally our batsmen started scoring some runs. I'm a little worried about our bowling, didn't seem to great at times. But that's the modern game I suppose, it favours batsmen more than bowlers. As for Faf, it was the right time and right thing to do. I was never his biggest fan, but he did well through some really difficult times. Hopefully he gets back into form again now with the bat. As for the next captain, I agree with the sentiments that Bavuma must earn his place in the test team first. And even then, I also get the feeling that people think they can copy and paste the rugby template. My vote goes to Quinny, but perhaps they should consider giving the gloves to someone else then? Take some of the load off him. ODI's and T20's they can make whoever they want captain
  16. With a black dot on the left ear?
  17. I wouldn't.. I'd lock it in my car or let it sleep in the tent/chalet/caravan with me!

I was never Faf's biggest fan. But I must admit, he was captain in a difficult time, and deserves a good send off.

    Cricket......

So, the commentator on espn cricinfo has twice called Bavuma "the man in form". One decent first class score hardly maketh a man in form, but let's see what he can do. Looks good so far with 14 from 22.
  20. If I train it well, it can take out the webuycar oke AFTER he's paid me. This can be the start of a fruitful partnership!

I agree with previous comments regarding Faf, I think he is finished. However, him and Rassie sure are giving us hope! If they can make it to the close of play without losing another wicket, we actually have a chance to chase that score down!
  24. This literally just happened: I watched this video, then got a call from my wife to bring the car so she can go fetch kids from school (lift club brings them to the reserve gate almost). As I get to my car, I nearly stepped on a.. yup, you guessed it, freaking black mamba! And where does it go? Under the car of course, and doesn't come back out the other side.. So off I go, with a mamba quite possibly somewhere in the undercarriage.
  25. I asssume this is it? Hmm, I'm either going to love it or hate it, haven't decided which yet
