  1. ChrisF thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you, we all need to be responsible when not actually riding. To clarify, I encountered this individual three different times and every time we were heading in opposite directions while riding. He was screaming from the very first time he came close enough for me to hear him. As a rule I avoid confrontation at all costs as nobody wins, even when you "correct" as you say. May God help us all...on and off the bike.
  2. Fully agree Swift&Aero, a calm chat would have been good and should be our go to attitude. I have extra patience with my fellow cyclists as we all have issues and the bike is our therapy or joy or release.... and that's why I just cycled on the first two times. I didn't even look at him in an effort to avoid confrontation, but this dear fellow cyclist intentionally changed direction the third time and nearly caused a head-on collision and all this while screaming. I might add, he was screaming at everyone not wearing a mask. (I have a buff around my neck at all times to put on when I stop) I yelled at him to stop being stupid without using any expletives...even though his actions could have landed both of us in hospital or worse. I really do have great understanding for peoples fear and frustration during this time, but man some people just seem determined to share their crappy nappy vibes.
  3. Thanks for the confirmation DieseInDust! Next time that wingnut screams at me to wear a mask I'm going to have some choice responses
  4. What is the latest regulation on wearing a mask while riding? (social or training on road) Many wearing and many not...
  5. Will everyone ride together? If so, what speed?
  6. Totally agree and why charge entry for a none rider or want to visit a second time? The Two Oceans Expo is way better and they don't charge anything! Happened to be in London a couple years back over the Ride London weekend, went to the expo and tell you what an experience! No entry charge, in fact everybody walking through the door got a goody bag filled with quality stuff not toothpaste and 110 flyers... stands was far superior and specials so much better to what is on offer locally. CTCT really dropping the ball with the expo, come on guys you are so much better than this!!
  7. A friend just posted this report and warning on his Facebook wall. Can the cycle path not be extended to run along the highway on the harbour side? Many MTB's already using it... "Cyclists beware: Maon Saxe from Sunset Beach's horror cycling experience this morning: Today while riding on the cycle lane over the bridge at the end of Paarden Eiland, I was mugged! I am fine bar grazes on my elbow. I knew that particular spot was notorious for muggings and I should have waited for a few riders to ride together with, but I was limited for time and so decided to go ahead solo. This was at about 7.30am. I skirted around two of them but the third knocked me off my bike. They never harmed me after I fell off. My phone fell out and they took it and my bike. Fortunately 3 amazing black guys walking to work heard me screaming and got my bike back but the phone is gone. Please let fellow cyclist you know, not to be willfully ignorant like me and know that its no longer safe to ride on the cycle lane in that area even with another cyclist. They should wait to form a group and if no one comes go on the highway or try go through the harbour! Its shocking we have to live in fear and cant use a cycle lane that cost our city millions of rands !"
  8. Well done manne! Proud African Team
  9. Awesome, well done Ashleigh! What an ambassador for woman's sport!
  10. Giant is one of the biggest and oldest brands in the world, to call it dodgy just shows ignorance
  11. Now where to get the cash....???
  12. Vitality Dan - 1 post and now... MIA ! Another great PR display by Discovery Vitality, NOT! Was thinking to change to Discovery but guess what - big promises with poor delivery = NO NEW MEMBERS!
  13. I'm just really disappointed in the way Kevin reacted to all this. Man-up! You broke the rules and got caught, take your penalty like a man and stop breaking the rules no matter what good reason you might think you have to do so!
  14. Ha Ha Ha i see this going the same way as "I run red robots" but then this might have been the intention to just stir some emotion
  15. annica, sluk n' chill pill sunshine! You are a rookie on the hub and obviously still need to mature a bit. I did not launch a personal attack but merely made an observation based on your OP and response thereafter. It was and is clear that you are unable or unwilling to comprehend valid argument. You asked for a response and you got it, with very valid reasons from different hubbers. I pointed out that in the face of all such reason you still refuse to acknowledge good solid argument when presented with it. Have we jumped red lights, yes, we all have done it. Point is your attitude towards this cannot remain in the face of valid argument and good reason. If what has been presented does not qualify as valid argument then i'm afraid this whole debate is going nowhere and you waisting our time. As for your attitude in life being ignorant, yes you are big time! You stated that driving a car was unethical?? BTW "irate' me says report me to admin for my 'personal attack' if you feel so strongly about it!
  16. All i can say is WOW annica, welcome to the Hubsa my dear or is that boy? Nothing personal but your OP and followup is extremely weak and your attitude reveals utter immaturity and ignorance even for things outside of cycling. Then again some people just live for them selfs and will never get the point.

  19. and since when has a red traffic light turned into a yield sign as soon as your on a bicycle??? did 2 long rides the last couple of days and i can count on my one hand the cyclists who actually stopped at red traffic lights but let one be taken out by a car they don't see and everybody will be up in arms again! Obey the rules if you want to use the road!!

    Argus 2014

Hi Nebukanezer, BIG respect for a 50k before work in Blizzard. With that in mind you must be pretty strong, fit and fast. Guys have already given you good advice and i would agree, get to your start bunch early and get to the front if possible. Timing is from gun to finish mat so if you start at the back of the bunch you might loose up to a minute or more just to cross the start line and by that time the front end of the bunch is flying. You will save yourself a lot off energy and some time starting at the front. 'A' still a strong group and weather permitting the sharp end of this group should dip under the 3 hour mark which is the benchmark for the more serious Argus cyclist. as for training, yes go South from camps bay toward Houtbay down Suikerbossie and over Chapmans Peak to Noordhoek and back the same way. Will give you some good hills and a good scope of the last third of the race. Other than that, just enjoy the SA sunshine, good people food and drink! All the best!
  21. One reason - sunblock! Love the SA summer sun but hours on the bike is no good for my lily white pistons, and applying it on hairy legs is just a royal mess!
