  1. I'm sorry but there is no excuse for taking a banned substance even if available in every day meds or over the country. The SAIDS app is so easy to use. At the chemist you can use your smart phone, type in the commercial name and it will tell you if banned or not. Should be every athletes responsibility. I race vets competitively and before I buy any meds I check on the app. Just in case. So no excuse for elite athletes.......other than stupidity. In Darryl's case he spent a lot of money doing an investigation and could prove that the pharmacist had handled the banned substance on that equipment prior to filling his capsules. Hence the contamination. Via invoices, scripts and video. Otherwise he would have been banned. Same as others who have been able to prove that a supplement was contaminated. If you can't prove any of that, then you are guilty.
  2. If you're going to cheat, do it properly ! Don't get a podium result !! The guys racing all know who is in the group and who is racing who. And will know where they ended at the finish. Especially in a race like Sun where the wind caused havoc. The VC bunch was only about 12 guys at the end. So would all know if Mohammed was in the bunch or ahead of the bunch. And let me tell you, the prize money for placing basically covers your entry. So not worth cheating for that. So maybe it's just for bragging rights. But still strange how one claims for a prize that you didn't receive. Cheats like this are no different to doping cheats. Still a cheat. Should get a ban !!
  3. A short delay would've made a huge difference. When they merged with us must have been 10-15. When the commissaire intervened, probably 3. 2 rode off the front, and then a 3rd was told to either drop off or go past.
  4. Sorry, not Marshall, the Race commissaire eventually came up to the tandems after Heidelberg to tell them to ride off or back off. Our bunch eased up to allow a few to ride off the front. Just felt this should have happened when the groups got together. Problem was, still early in the tandem race, so still a big group of all capabilities, so couldn't leave VC behind, ad the VC bunch would drop tandems the minute road went up. Not your fault Gerald, just think Commissaire could've acted sooner.
  5. The Main group. So both bunches were mixed up. Tandems in front, then when difficult, singles pass them and so forth. Only after Heidelberg did Marshalls tell the tandems to move off. Problem is a Tandems drag the bunch up to breaks on the flats and downs. Know hard to manage, but Marshalls should have sorted out sooner.
  6. Tks Gerald for a well organized event. Nice not to be catching the short route riders on the way in for the finish. Started in VC. Only issue was tandems catching us as we turned back onto circuit after the extra loop. Caused a bit of mayhem. Nobody knew what to do. Wind was great ! Made up for no hills and created a tough last 30 k's
  7. Time irrelevant. It's whether you win or not !!
  8. I have had 2 replacements under warranty for this. 1st time I was told it was a known fault. The shock was about 6 months old. They replaced the stanchion. Earlier this year it started creaking again. They wanted to charge me to fix. I kicked up a fuss as this is a known fault and the stanchion was actually a replacement less than a year back. They ended up replacing for free.
  9. They have a great business model. Well priced bikes for the average rider. The type of person who walks into Sportsmanship warehouse and buys bikes for the family at a good price. When they go to the LBS they get intimidated and tried to up sell to better faster. So they rather buy off the shelf what they can actually afford in a less intimidating environment. I think SW sells more bikes than any LBS. Maybe not as expensive but volumes. And rather that than a Makro/P'nP special.
  10. They only tae credit for medals. If you don't win a medal then you didn't benefit from their guidance and support !!!
  11. Was great to see all our riders finishing and really up there in the mix with a chance of a medal. So used to watching Olympics and Worlds with high hopes, only to see our riders abandon half way and watch from the sidelines. We are improving as a cycling nation.
  12. Fantastic ride today. He is believing in himself more and mixing it up with the big boys !! Hang on, he is one of the big boys !
  13. Like about 40th place at The Masters !! Rather pathetic.
  14. ftp 330w @71kg = 4.66 w/kg Not as young as I used to be :-)
  15. According to Bike 123 it must be that he does not race well enough :-(Not just results that are considered. But how they race !!
  16. So your result in the races isn't important, it's actually about how you raced. TT isn't importent, coz they not selecting to ride a TT. But wondering, if someone rides a good TT and try's good results in kermesse and road race, why are they not selected. So in other words it is all subjective, and if so, no need to have a selection race. With your 3 posts on the hub, you are either a selector defending CSA's position, or a parent who's child got selected regardless of their reults.
  17. So if it's about how they race, why have a time trial ?
  18. If like any other selection then the parents. You get a letter saying well done you are selected, and then are responsible for all your own costs, even SA kit !!
  19. Would love to hear the reasoning behind this. Why bother with selection race. Costs everyone money and CSA profits from entry fees.
  20. So they had selection races in Pietermaritzburg 2 weeks ago with the idea to select the teams. Then they almost ignore those results and say they mainly used SA's which were 3 months ago as the selection criteria. Then why hold selection races ??? So youngsters who has good results at the selection races don't get selected. I think it's a cop out to select who you actually want and not based on form or the selection races as was the plan. Someone who had form 3 months ago is irrelevant now !!
  21. No problem. Didn't explain all the details. I was a lighty of 20 at the time and didn't even know what doping was. So quite an eye opener when the doctor tells a teammate that he lost a tour coz the 2 guys who dropped him were tested positive on the particular stage.
  22. It wasn't the doctors, it was the the cycling federation. The doctors tested and got the positives, was brushed under the carpet by the cycling body. Going back many years, but I don't doubt this still happens in a lot of sports and different countries.
  23. Let's start off with, I hate doping and dopers. I have seen it first hand, and lost to riders who doped. One day they are dropping and next day suddenly winning. Also had first hand accounts of cover ups from doctors involved. I had to make the choice, do I dope or not. Chose the or not. I do have an issue with persecuting someone for the rest of their lives for doping. Coz where do you then draw the line on any infringements of laws. The fight should rather be at changing the rules to have more ramifications for dopers. Criminalize doping. End up with a criminal record, and serve 2 -4 years in jail. That may change a lot of minds. Also, then let's see how these guys make a comeback after sitting on their arse for a few years. Not training, on dope, while banned and then coming back even stronger. Also make them liable for all costs as well as paying back all winnings and sponsorship money for the time in question. So it hits their pocket hard. That money can be used to further curb doping. Suddenly it may not seem so lucrative to dope. Trying to get a few guys banned from some races is not really going to have an effect on the overall problem. Because the guys that are doping are doing on the basis that they don't think they will get caught, and may never get caught, so the thought of not racing certain races later in their career is not a deterrent.
