  1. I'm running XO gripshift on my MTB. The gripshift is the primary reason I prefer XO, the reduced sensitivity to cable mis-adjustment is the other. (Shimano cable pull is less than SRAM to change a gear, hence it is slightly more sensitive to mis-adjustment). I've got XTR cranks though, they're simply the strongest/best-value crank out there. I wouldn't trust carbon with the number of stupid rock impacts I make. On my old MTB I've got 4-yr old XT with thumbshifters. Don't have too many complaints there, although like I said I do prefer the gripshift. The simple answer is that there's very few bad components out there, and most choices come down to budget and personal preferences.
  2. I'll be on Bontrager Revolt TR's, with Stans. Proven in the Western Cape over the last 2 years - not one puncture or other issue.
  3. What's wrong with heat and wind? No-one said it must be easy
  4. Have it in March and you'll have double the turnout that you'll get in June. Road racing and training through a Cape winter always struck me as a dumb idea. April though is even better - a week or two after Cape Epic and I KNOW I'll be fit
  5. bolt-cutters are standard issue for a bike thief. Years ago I had a bike stolen from UCT. Police pulled the guy off as he was cycling down main road on my Cannondale, with the bolt-cutters hanging out his backpack. When I phoned to report the theft they already had my bike!
  6. Did they break the bike-rack?
  7. Well best they buy and install a good firewall' date=' anti-virus and anti-spy ware. Also best they keep there system up to date with the latest patches for both the OS as well as these products. Oh ****, they don't know how because they arn't computer literate.Catch 22. You either get a secure computer system, or one that is easy to use. ? [/quote'] Or you get a Mac. You CAN have your cake and eat it too.
  8. Hopefully you have more than one. A single study confirms nothing. You might also want to place links from the listed ingredients to a page that details why that ingredient is important. I stand by my assertion that most of that stuff is marketing BS and just a way to differentiate your product from the many others in the marketing place.
  9. That could also be a problem. I want carbs, and maybe some electrolytes. All the other stuff is BS (unless you have some multi-study research to say otherwise)
  10. No website at www.whasp.co.za? You're not going to sell anything without a website!
  11. Never heard of Whasp. I buy USN Vooma - cheapest carbs for the price, and the flavour is palatable. I really don't understand how people can pay R15+ for gels. I go through a box of 30 per month.
  12. Foolish PC people.
  13. Completely. The last thing you want to do is put on weight. Train harder - that'll build muscle in the right areas - at least the weight will be where its useful. Creatine is only useful for trackies.
  14. Speaking for myself, I've just been on a spending spree, with the intention of beating any imminent price-hikes. I know a few others that have done the same.
  15. @vaulter1: Nice build! Your colour-coordination needs some work though
  16. Some of the BBB stuff is pretty light. You won't get better value.
  17. Put the 2.1 on the front and 1.95 at the rear.
  18. Well actually our road rules say you must wear one too. But as you say, that's his problem, not ours.
  19. Magura brakes come with a useful plastic thingy for separating the pads (and measuring the wear)
  20. Get a Stan's conversion. Best money ever spent on my MTB. Haven't fixed a puncture in 2 years.
