  1. Just posted pics from tonight's Killarney: http://picasaweb.google.com/nic.coyne/Killarney091104# Hi-res versions available on request.
  2. Been off my bike since the Cape Epic. Only just started riding again, so zero fitness! Lazyness too I guess

  5. Had my grippies for 4 years now. Changed the grips just the other day for the first time. The XO has a slightly softer rubber compound so it wears a bit faster than X9. X9 is also lighter if that matters to you. As far as reliability goes, these things are bomb-proof. If you open them up you'll see why - there's pretty much no moving parts. Regarding the 1:1 vs 2:1 debate - with SRAM you have a little more play before you have to worry about adjustment. Not a big deal either way. Front shifter is nicer than Shimano because you can trim position easily. The gear indicators are nice and accurate. You can see exactly what gear you're in by looking at the shifter - no need to glance down at your rear derailleur and take your eyes off the trail. Not sure if Shimano indicators these days have numbers now, but my previous XT thumbies had an indicator that was pretty useless.

  7. Bruce, remind us of your weight again?
  8. If you head out to Majik forest please let me know. Would love to take some photos of you guys.
  9. Very nice!
  10. AFAIK all contour paths above Kirstenbosch are out-of-bounds to bikers. Would love to hear that has changed?
  11. i thought mavic were touting their shoes as among the lightest on the market. Just checked up on their respective sites... Mavic Fury: 350g each in size 42.5 Spez S-Wroks: 335g each in size 42 So the Mavic is competitive. The Adidas version came in around 400g each (actual), so Mavic must have put the shoe on a diet.
  12. Mavic shoes (previously Adidas) are quite heavy. I'd go with the Spez. Personally I prefer the Pro Carbon without all the fishing line.
  13. Don't waste your time with expensive carbon silliness. Get a Giant Anthem X1 and spend the rest on a holiday or a spare set of wheels
  14. They can also cause punctures. Be very careful to make the end of the tyre liner smooth, otherwise that ends up wearing a hole in your tube. IMHO, on the road, rather invest in better tyres. On the mtb, go tubeless.
  15. It'll be worth the wait. I love mine!
  16. PS. I think that Daneel Liebenberg might be riding on our team in summer, so I'll give him lessons in correct sachet disposal
  17. Best place to stick your empty sachets is just inside the the front of your jersey (at the bottom). The elasticated seam keeps it from falling out. And nothing sticky to worry about, until they fall on the floor at home when you take your jersey off.
  18. Well, despite this being one of the slowest websites I've ever used, and the site breaking almost all general principles of website usability, it was a lot less painful than filling in a form and visiting the SACF office.
  19. If you exceed R20k of stuff imported per year, you will have to register as an importer. Your stuff will sit with customs until you do so, so make sure you stay under that limit.
  20. My '04 Epic partner ran the USE suspension post for that Epic. By the end of the Epic it had developed serious play. USE - not recommended.
