  1. A few years back I bought a BMW after a mate complained that Audi's motorplan didn't cover his failed aircon. My motorplan covered everything except tyres. These guys would replace stuff at even the hint of a problem. I brought it in cos a brake light wasn't working and they replaced the entire rear light unit. Unfortunately the car wasn't too bike friendly, and also people think that because you're driving a BM that you're also a tosser. (and frankly, most BM drivers are). So I now have a Corsa bakkie - VERY bike friendly. Bought from Reeds, who sponsor lots of cycling in Cape Town. Good guys.
  2. Agree. Shimano has the clearest installation instructions of any of the bike parts I've bought.
  3. Those would be quality lightweight XC wheels. Probably not quite as light as the AM Classics, but both the rims and hubs should be a little more durable.
  4. 5th element, Manitou?
  5. Frame, rear shock and fork are all 3 years old, and going strong. Never had a moments trouble from the 5th element. Still as comfy as a pool chair.
  6. My wife is the proud owner of.... my old bike, with all the new bits from my Anthem X. http://lh5.ggpht.com/nic.coyne/SPDDgr1Ga7I/AAAAAAAAGBw/YyxH-im0E24/s640/DSC_0045.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/nic.coyne/SPDDjzxCkUI/AAAAAAAAGB4/n7aJexJJp80/s640/DSC_0050.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/nic.coyne/SPDDo0-3SNI/AAAAAAAAGCM/Rf8izIdWayo/s400/DSC_0052.jpg

  8. Adam Craig rode an Anthem X in the last 2 rounds of the World Cup this year. Including the one in the US that he won. All other races he rode on his carbon hardtail. Not sure whether he rode an Advanced last year.
  9. They are working on a carbon version of the X though. Rumour has it a prototype will be raced from about Feb, with production release in 3rd or 4th quarter of '09. niterider2008-10-22 08:10:55
  10. How much does the frame including shock weigh? and how much does the fork weigh?? Haven't weighed the frame seperately, but Giant's "official" weight is 2.28kg for a medium. Forks weighs 1490g uncut.
  11. That it is
  12. I haven't ridden an old anthem, but this thing climbs like a scalded cat!
  13. er, frame is 10g heavier than the Anthem Advanced Carbon
  14. You probably can - I think around R12k is right. But a built-up bike would be better value. My X1 with Fox Fork and SLX/XT bits cost R25k. I've moved all the bits to my old bike (will post a pic of that soon too).
  15. Anthem X frame Fox F100RL fork American Classic Dsic 26 wheels XO rear der XT front der XO gripshift XTR cranks Magura Marta SL brakes, with Alligator rotors Ritchey WCS seatpost Ritchey Pro bars XTX Smica bar-ends Thomson Masterpiece seatpost SLR Gelflow saddle Eggbeater SS pedals, with short Ti spindle upgrade Still some room to save a bit more weight, but so far there's nothing fragile on there - everything is light and strong.

  17. Finally built up. Weighs 10.6kg as you see her. 18. You have a URL where we can download our own?
  19. Problem with those separate lanes are: 1. Pedestrians use them. And unlike Holland, they don't give right of way to cyclists 2. Pedestrians break their glass on them. Unlike the roads there's no cars to gently disperse the glass. 3. Whenever those paths intersect with roads, motorists are not expecting bikes to pop out from no-where. Unlike Holland, cars are not guilty when they knock people off their bikes Give me a wide lane on the side of a normal road any day.
