Running 44x16 on mine. No hills to speak of, but can become a tough grind into the wind. Can't wait to get rid of the Conti country tires...much worse than the Schwalbe Marathons I had.

I leave Melkbos around 6:50...ish...normally at Blowfish around 7:20...The ss is rocking a new chain, so hopefully no more chainbreaks!

Can't really call this current Cpt weather winter:-) But yes, still very dark..grateful for the cycle lanes.

I commute in on a singlespeed hybrid Giant...works very well for the travel from Melkbos.

Doing the Melkbos - Cpt trip on a stripped Giant Escape. Hardly slower than when it still had gears on.

I quite often cross (cycling lane) paths with a dad coming from the Paddocks side towards Blouberg in the mornings. Little one sitting on a Weeride or other in front, bigger one on the half wheeler in the back. Always laughing and chatting. What a stunning way to spend quality time with your sons every day!

Also eyeing that with lots of interest!

I must admit, those pesky two-abreast runners really do spoil the whole day, almost more than having to wait a few moments if a car does not yield. No wonder it makes more sense to ride in the road where you stop at the red lights and share the lane with friendly motorists. I suppose those 20 strong commuter groups do have a point though.

Excellent topic! Question re the weeride: does it interfere with your pedalstroke or position at all? Have a fairly aggressive setup on my commuter, so looking at the angles not sure it will work? Can't wait to get the babba on the bike!

Hi guys...anyone know where I can find the 29inch version of these tyres? I had the Schwalbe Marathon on my 26ds and loved them for commuting, but they don't make them in that size and width for 29er.

Seeing as these are the new spec ones I should give then an objective go...I already know the XTs are stunning - maybe the Avids are as nice now.

I kept my 2012 XT brakes with the idea of replacing the Elixir 9s on my new XT based Anthem 29er...but not so sure anymore. What are you guys' opinion on the two sets?

In this context, what would your definition of white middleclass be? If you're implying people with other means of transport, ie car choosing to commute to work by bike, then I'm proud to be one, and so would be the app 60% of people riding on the cycle path each day?

Have replaced batteries on my Polar myself. So far, with swimming etc, no issues with waterproofing. Just don't damage the seal.

I'm one of the 2012 DNFs. I spent the last 9 months training, often at the expense of spending time with my eight month old boy...committed to finishing to the extent of obsession, and came in, knowing I had the legs and lungs. Had to pull out, after 10 hours of vomit and sh*t spells on Tuesday night. Trust me, there is nothing more devastating than sitting on the side of the road, with nothing more to give...getting back in the saddle for 500m and repeating. Put that time (and yes, own money) in and you'll understand the feeling. Ironically, it's my boy that gave me the stomache virus. So yes, lots of reasons...but none of them I would guess would be "I thought it would be easy".
