  1. Haha, nope, we both fitted rather nicely - spacd go spare! He saw me coming (thank you magicshine) and very politely moved over. I'm yet to suddenly find someone pushing a trolley there. That would be interesting. I think I'll be having a few wet commutes later this week...
  2. mmmmmmm....burgers! Yum! Congrats. Best thing ever.
  3. And of course, all these are personal, and your experience may differ! Preparation is key. I can never just recovery ride...so: My legs are always sore. Wind can change direction in an instant, even reverse around corners, laughing in your face. Sunrises are beautiful. I've become addicted to it. I can't eat an apple and swallow while riding! Bike setup is key! Most commuters are friendly. I arrive home 200% mofe relaxed. My rear tyre (mtb) gets killed on the tar. Consult windguru, but don't worry about windguru! There's always a race waiting to happen! People do the oddest things in cars sitting in traffic. Yours?
  4. Same time for me...met only one other guy while crossing the lake/river/dam before paddocks.
  5. Where is everyone at the moment? Once again very quiet on the road from Melkbos to town this morning. The brt route is very nice to use at the moment.
  6. Every day from Melkbos. Normally 6:15 ish..
  7. Tough one today...wind full in your face.
  8. What a stunning morning for commuting! Supposed to be raining, but nothing but crisp fresh air. Even had a partner to ride in with! Brilliant!
  9. Enjoy! Stay alert, and it will become the best part of your day. Remember to put your cardriver hat on..
  10. I must admit..for 4kms I'd rather go to the dark side and put on the running shoes. Nice run like that will get the heart going!
  11. Haha, yep, Melkbos! Pants stay at work, as do shoes, just not enough space! Shirt is a nightmare as my folding skills are dodgy at best...so, jersey or something has to hide the creases when I look like I've just been tumbledried. I love the wind. With no hills, that's all I've got to work with...so bring it on. Still better than being stuck in a car. Might just be me getting old, but I would really suggest that if someone was to commute longer distances, often, they make SURE their bikesetup is correct. These distances are short, but day after day, and knee or back can start niggling. Or bum... I use this time for cave time...time to think and process things. After a while, commuting becomes an addiction of sorts.
  12. 30kms each way, to Foreshore. Use coastal road then cycle lanes all the way in. Avg 1:08 in, 1:05 out, depending on the wind. Take clean clothes and shower at work. Leave laptop at work, same with expensive stuff - all stay at home. Ride 5 times per week if windguru permits...although I should stop looking and just ride. Engaged in copious amounts of SCR, but try and keep the HR out of zone 5. No hills at all, but try and ride heavy, so fs and knobblies all the way. Have 5 commuting bibs, numbered which helps the admin. Charge light every night and make sure chain and tyres all ok. Incredible how many scars you can see from punctures where sealant came through. (I'm oldschool, ride tubes with slime in) Greet all other cyclists although seem to have a few very important Pros riding at the moment - concentrating to much to greet back.
  13. Guilty! Makes the Melkbos commute just a little more interesting! Just yesterday had two roadies hiding behind me on my fs with knobblies and backpack! I must admit to taking shots when trying to act all cool and speak normally when I'm eating bricks at 40km/h next to a roadie! Somehow they're all suddenly doing base training? ;-) All good fun (isn't that what it should be about? ) and stunning to see more people commuting in.
  14. Buycycle selling for R6399?
  15. Giant..but may be slightly biased as well.
  16. I'm in as well for an order?
  17. Ditto for Melkbos.
  18. Hi Chris - eagerly awaiting a reply mail from you.

  20. Another consideration from this exercise is the fact that finding the right SIZE bike is actually a little more tricky than just the std measurements. Always thought I was the std cut-out template Merida medium...after the fitting it turns out a large would be much better...and now, wanting to go over to the Giant tcr, with their different sizings, it's even more important to know what suits you.
  21. Decided to have my road bike properly fitted after starting to get severe ITB problems. Mailed around to a few companies. Within minutes Arran mailed back and answered all my questions. Had a fitment done the next week, where they really took their time in doing it well, making sure everything was perfect, while also answering my sometimes daft questions. Long story short, I have now done the Amashova, Telkom classic and D2D and can't recommend highly enough having your bike fitted properly. It, together with the exercises I'm doing now, sorted my ITB and knee issue completely, to the end that I no longer need pain medication. For the price of stem, in my opinion you can't get a better upgrade. Thanks to the Cycle fit team for really good service.
  22. Might not be quite the same location, but had a similar problem: On the bottom outside of my foot, right in the middle of heel and toes. Started after changing my running shoes to serious anti-pronation models (Nike). Turns out the shoe, due to the amount of anti-pronation built in, artificially pushes the pressure to the outside of your foot, causing the pain after prolonged running etc. Maybe check that your soles etc of your shoes are not causing your foot to actually angle to the outside, causing the pain. As a matter of interest, changing to light-correction Saucony shoes sorted the problem immediately. Also check that there are no seams on the inside of the shoe that could be pressing against nerves in that area.
  23. Hi Have the new 2010, upgraded from the TFS100. Stunning, relatively light bike that is very, very well specced for the price in my opinion. Brakes need a bit of setting up to work optimally - nice Fox shock. Very responsive, at times even a bit twitchy ride, which I prefer. Have done quite a few races on it already, including the scorcher 55km mtb Argus this morning. As reliable as my Toyota, if not as flashy as some of the more expensive brands.
