  1. Not sure if the brand name is Conex in the UK but asking for compression fittings best try a plumbing supplies
  2. Water? 15 or 22mm? You get these compression Conex brass fittings / unions that slide over the pipe, you will need 2x. Cut a replace piece of pipe (you can use copper pipe as well) to fit Slide back the unions each side insert the new piece then slide back paying attention the centre (mark beforehand) then tighten, do not over tighten, You can put a wrap or two of teflon tape over the olive just to avoid drips. You also get the unions that have a step in the middle, in this case you want the type that will slide over the pipe

After 9 months, three boats with the same points on the last leg and it came down to the throw of the dice (route around an exclusion zone) - now its done & dusted, and the Chinese boat took the honors. Hard core sport this ... coverage was just awesome, thanks to the Interwebs.

Leg 11 on the roll - live on FB Its so close, the three top dawgs on equal points, after an orbit of the earth!
  5. I went to my first Dikso in Kempton - complete with lighted floor panels on the dance floor, in the wake of 'Saturday Night Fever'. Whites Only of course .. but there was one club in you could go in Jhb by the Oriental Plaza where it was non-racial but those places were denied a liquor license. I think it was called "New York"
  6. Yes definitely - I lived in Benoni from ages 10 to 21! Honestly never heard The Doors until the 80's What t alternatives was there to SABC mind control machine? LM, Capital Radio and Radio Freedom all on shortwave
  7. Quite likely though was i was too young.- i was referring to the 70s' when it was all about The Beatles and mainstream coc rock - wasn't Berks on LM radio then (60's)? Van Morrison and many other great artist escaped the popularity stakes then as well because it was all about pandering to the publics taste (or lack thereof) - the Grusome Gresh was also in the business of selling records, so it was a closed loop.. I think the first radio show that I found educating was Neil Johnson on 702,
  8. Mind you neither did the Sex Pistols ... talking punk, Asylum Kids? What a breakthrough for SA music after Rabitt et al
  9. I went past that graveyard in Paris, I am sure still today there people hanging about there. Jim was quite a talent pity it got lost so early, he was a tormented and ultimately self destructive soul. The Doors did not feature on the cultural landscape here at all in the 70's, mind you that was probably by decree @ SABC that bred mainly naff talent. My first exposure was the sound track of 'Apocalypse Now" - that helicopter scene, and The End .... wowza still brings shivers to my spine.
  10. Anyone else go through a Doors faze? For me it was a bit after the fact, but still good fun was had by all
  11. Is Cav going to find his winning ways? Or is it Game Over
  12. Def happy to forget the entire '70's #StolenYouth
  13. Okay besides Cosmos, 50/50, what did the SABC ever do? Twin Peaks... ?. I did enjoy that 50/50 outdoor / nature programme, it was unique because back in the day, the evenings (the only time TV broadcasts happened) were strictly split between English and Afrikaans sections but here was something that had both English en Die Taal, 50/50 though! Actually another gem was 'Northern Exposure' which was dubbed and named "Goie More Alaska", but you could get the Engels original sound track on Radio 2000
  14. kosmo ... nooit getid? Maybe in another life. Back to school .. I maintain that generally the syllabus at schools here wrt to maths & science do more harm that good, Torture for most. without essence or meaning. People developing the material (and I know a few of them) actually know fokall,. I say science in particular should be taught generally as the narrative of discovery. That's the interesting story that will leave an impression, and also what must be taught is the alternative theories or hypothesis (ie geocentric vs helocentric 'worlds') - also the relationship to culture and society - 'context' Sure. if you have a good teacher they will paint the big picture and you can join the dots and it might mean something to you. Guess that is confined to expensive private schools now.
  15. pffft ... he epitomizes the mindlessness of high school maths & science here ... meaningless garbage that is to be memorised, regurgitated and thereafter forgotten for ever. No wonder so many people get put off Science & Maths for life. The first educator ever to speak to my mind was Carl Sagan, remember when Cosmos hit the airwaves? Possibly the only worthwhile series ever to emanate from the SABC.
  16. Street Records in Braamies! Hell Yeah! although I have reminisced previously happy to do so again. They used to hire out LP's and cool music Videos. So for like a few Rands you could get a pile of LP's to 'listen to' over the weekend ... Sinead o Connor, The Specials,. The Doors, The Clash, Exploited, U2, Peter Gabriel and many more were first heard here. Cool guy that used to run it... And Moolas was a legend.
  17. Snortina! Groot Ses!
  18. You had to queue to pay ... And you could listen to any CD's, and there was always people working there who knew their stuph Before they moved to Rosebank they were Hillbrow Records in Pretoria Street .. lots of evenings spent there in skint student days Got this triple LP gem there,,, and still have it. Then they got bought out by that nondescript corporate ... and it was all downhill
  19. As a (girl) friend of one once said .... best way to get over a guy is to get under another one. Could be said the converse holds true.
  20. Days of our lives, move over!
  21. Okay so its probably an 802.11 WiFi Point to Point connection of some sorts (probably some MicroTik kit?) - you could monitor the link quality from the router but other reason might be possibly the 'service provider' has an over-subscribed and under-provisioned link to the net proper? If its a link quality issue (dropped packets, poor S/N ratio, interference) that can be sorted out by someone who understands the technical and theoretical issues, with appropriate antenna use and config. Another possible issue is that too many other subs are using the same channel on the WiFi and when that happens data speeds drop off dramatically, even though its a shared medium it does not handle too many connections at the same time on the same channel, a problem one finds with other WiFi setups. You get apps to visually see the channels being used, and if there is a lesser used one, then you can set the link to use that channel (there are 12 or so) WiFi speeds become unusable when too many talk on one channel If the link is oversubcribed upstream, you probably will be getting poor latency and fluctuating upload and download speeds, what is the ISP commitment to provisioning? Do you have a 3G/4G signal? A TP Link LTE router with WiFi is under R2k and if you have Cell C signal get a Giga Pack! https://www.cellc.co.za/cellc/prepaid-contract-detail/GigaPackages
  22. Wireless as in 3G / LTE? One can jazz up the connection with external antennas if that is the problem Also take a look as the Pay AS you Go Cell C Sim deals, I have one client using that and it still makes $ense over any contract
  23. I had a Yamie IT425 (think it was a 425cc) back in the day when there was still mines dumps in the East Rand to rip up. That thing had power - it could wheely in 4th, There was one particular high dump near Springs we called The Widow Maker - that bike was just about the only one to make it up to the top. You would have to take a run at it doing +140km/h I still have a Yamaha Xt500 which I am modernising / rebuilding. Much better engine that the Honda XR500, which I have also had, did a monsta trip to Nambia on that. It came back a wreck.
  24. Willie Smittie still giving it horns
