  1. Perhaps... my drinking days are a distant lost memory although I drink a reasonable amount of water now and generally produce the yellow stuff. But I can remember the relief after a lot of drinking, beer or otherwise, and the translucent nature thereof. Point is there is a lot of drinking & driving going on here, especially inter-dorp and runs to the rural areas.
  2. Generally you can't miss it - the ous are not shy and there is volumes to flush which speaks volumes.
  3. Pay attention to the colour of the urine - light / clear means only one thing: beer. You would think the traffic cops would have wised up to that by now, but sadly no, keeping roads safe doesn't factor,
  4. Depends on the current drawn - for light duty stuff I don't bother uncoiling but don't go arc welding with the extension still on the spool. The issue is magnetism - the coiled up conductor will have significant reactance and at higher current drawn this will cause problems, heat and power factor if I remember correctly. Generally its voltage drop over long conductors that are a problem, the thicker the conductor for a given current the less the voltage drop. For light duty stuff (drills, planners, jig saws) the motors wont be more that 1 kW which at 230V will draw say 5A over a 10m extension cord which typically has 1.5 mm sq conductors which will give a voltage drop of 1V which is 0.44% which is totally acceptable SANS 10142 which says 5% max 6.2.5.2 Once the current-carrying capacity has been determined, after all correction factors had been considered, carry out the load power factor and voltage drop calculations to determine whether the voltage drop will be within the allowed 5 %. Also when you talk gauge generally that refers to a Gauge number (American Wire Gauge - AWG), normally conductors are classified here by cross sectional area
  5. I see BPM Toolcraft has 3Ah Makita 18V batteries on sale at R800. plus a DHP482ZJ drill (+case) for R1900. Chargers can be found for R1k so that that is R3700 for a complete Makita 18v starter outfit
  6. TITAN visits Tom Lie Nielsen
  7. Don't you get all sorts of service that's beneficial to contract work with that Hilti price? And higher duty cycle machines? Duty cycle is always a consideration, Generally I don't let anyone use (let alone borrow) my power tools. If they do, they must first explain to me what duty cycle means before I will even think of it. . DC Brushed motor power tools are still good and plentiful, only thing is brushes wearing out, but I still have a brushed three speed Makita 18V drill that's done almost 10 years of heavy service now, haven't needed to do the brushes as yet. But the difference is really the efficiency - the BL has some clever electronics that controls the 3 phase motor and this ultimately means longer battery life, shorter motor / body and better power to weight ratio. I also see people get confused about voltage, like 36V being the dogs bollox like 2x the power of 18V, many reviewers on YouTube fall in to this trap. The main benefit of the higher voltage is a less power loss in the conductors - power loss is the square of the current. Higher voltage means less current flow from the batteries for a given power setting.
  8. Whaaat? not me .... although I have just take delivery of a 900w Metabo water pump from them (R1250 or so) looks the business! def. the best deal in you are in the market for a 1/2 decent water pump.
  9. You can get a decent two speed DHP482RFE drill + 2 x 3Ah batteries + charger + carry case for R5k, which is a good deal, although I don't think that is BL its a good start, then you can get tools only going forward. Batteries alone go for R1400+, Charger around R1k, You can get up to 6Ah batteries which I have seen for around R2500. Most of mine of 3 Ah which are okay. http://www.makitatoolsonline.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=420 Or for R4899 from BPM Toolcraft https://www.toolcraft.co.za/products/makita-cordless-drill-driver-dhp482rfe
  10. Bosch is great stuff but I put my eggs in the Makita cordless basket - they really have a great product range although limited here and tends to be expensive, and lagging in terms of new models and tech, I buy most of mine on ebay (tool only, often from auction houses or used once type of thing) The new Brushless (BL) range is excellent, batteries do seem to last longer because they are more efficient and I have been moving my tools over to that range. I use the battery powered small angle grinder a lot, and I am led to believe the new BL one has more power and will run longer, which I can believe. Also keen on BL jigsaw.
  11. That is such a useful tool, I have the same with a variety of bits up to 25mm, 300mm long and I have put it though its paces many times over the last few years. Chipping mode with the right bits works a treat, though you should give it a break to cool down when you smell melting plastic. Only hassle is the cord when you need to work outside, on or in a roof etc But I recently got a solution for that problem: Not the grunt of the Bosch beast, no chipper mode but damn handy!
  12. I've enjoyed Willie's vlogs, a great insight into the life of a dedicated pro.
  13. I've installed a few external roof mounted LTE antennas that have worked wonders for LTE connections, whipping it up to 30-50 Mbps - about R2k + all in .
  14. He was assisting with Eurosport on the London Six Day, actually quite good in the commentary box, and meant less of Karlton K's mindless ramblings
  15. Did you try set the DNS service address on your router?
  16. +5 for Getflix - their service is not a VPN as such but a DNS jippo, All you have to do is change the address of your DNS server to one of theirs, This can also be done of your router so all your devices on your local net will seen according to the zone setup. You have to keep you your IP address updated which is easy enough via their web site.
  17. And a sense of humour
  18. Didn't they relocate to the Waterfront for a while once that became the happening place?
  19. Cable brakes ... hmmm Guess you get what you pay for? Al frame?
  20. There was a time when the .1 Ronts dial used to be in sync with the Litres at the petrol pumps. 10c per l Well that was back in the days of ripping up the 'hood on 50cc's
  21. Cannondale bikes can not be bought here on line anywhere as far as I know (besides these Macro specials) - even if you try buy one on-line in the US or elsewhere, they will not ship for export, they are not allowed by way of their dealer agreement. I can't really say that is really a bad thing, but it does mean price control and not free market.
  22. And lets be honest, new premium brand bikes are way overpriced ie top end Scalpel for R200k+ that is verging on the obscene, This is evident in the way the value halves when you walk out the door. So the presentation is the essential ingredient of the illusion of value. Psychology of Retail Therapy 101. Spez of course have this all down to a tee in their dedicated stores.
  23. Getting back to the small bike shops that cant get 'dales.... For me its about the relationship with the bike shop, and I have no issues with it being small or cluttered, if I am interested in a specific bike after doing the homework, then discussing it with the mr bike shop, who might have few suggestions and I don't mind having to wait for it. Whilst on the other hand, going into a flashy big shop with lots of stock does nothing for me except make me ponder about the margins necessary to cover all the overheads, but then again I am not your typical consumer. The last few Cannondales I have had have actually been built up from frames sourced here, and parts ordered on line and on ebay. I haven't actually been bike shopping in a bike shop for ages, except though for the odd spare or consumable Impey Cycles is where I go.
  24. Sony Trinitron - it had one clever RGB electron gun if I remember correctly, We had one, that large floor standing one as above.
  25. According to one small bike shop I used to deal with and from which I bought a few Cannodales from, since Omnico took over brand they would only supply to the bigger shops that would commit to volume.
