This is another appeal to anyone to who knows who this person is or was part of the group he may have been with, to please come forward. I have opened a case at the Krugersdorp SAPS CASE NUMBER: 254/11/2022 OR 255/11/2022 (was sent two case numbers😕) CONTACT NUMBER: 011-9511131 SGT LETSOAL0 / CPT VENTER If you are worried about your identity being exposed and would rather provide details to the police, then please do. By remaining quiet, you are just as guilty as the assailant. Also just to provide some further clarity: The assault happened away from the group that he was alleged to be with. He left the group after I had passed them and caught up with me in the vicinity of the crest of the first small drag of the Caves Road. After the assault, he then fled the scene back down to where the group were congregated. Also based on a witness who saw the event unfold and who was almost himself taken out by this guy when he was fleeing the scene, he is convinced that the guy was not wearing a helmet. In all likelihood, the guy had taken his helmet off when they were dealing with whatever situation they were attending to. People need to understand the sensitivity of this and I myself am still trying to process/deal with what transpired. We are also trying to be careful of what information we post publicly. Once again, I cannot express my gratitude to the cycling community and my wife at the support and lengths they have gone to, to try and flush this character out.

Did anyone from the group possibly see you after the incident with the injuries and check to see if you were okay on the side of the road? - No. This guy acted on his own and the incident occurred away from the grp. Because if nobody from his group saw/knew what happened, then we can't really expect anyone to come forward. Unless the perp told his group of what transpired after the fact.. - That unfortunately is one of the grey areas. One would think that he told someone in the group / someone in the grp observed him leaving the grp in haste and when he returned to the grp (that is if he did even rejoin them after the incident) he would have said something or somebody would of noticed something.

Help me understand this. If I understand the events that unfolded, then you rode past a group of say 15 riders. This guy chased you down (He left the grp to follow me. None of the others were present when the incident happened), forced you off the road and assaulted you.......

Shebeen you are 100% correct with your above phrase in bold. I have managed to open an assault case (that process is a story for another day and more popcorn than the hub can supply) and will share the details once obtained. A lot of people have commented saying that somebody is possibly wanting / ready to rant this coward out, but would rather do it directly to the SAPS/investigating officer than to the victim (myself) or my wife.

Just to keep this top of mind. Thanks for all the support and messages of well wishes. I am really amazed at the traction this has got and the fact that as tarnished as the cycling community is perceived to be, they are banding together to help find this assailant. We are confident that something will transpire. Will be going this morning to open the assault case with all the photographic proof etc. Will also be seeking Trauma Counseling, not only to deal with the what happened, but also in the hope that it may jog some recollection of what the guy looked like etc. Once again, thank you from myself and my family. Just as a heads up. Having spoken to Garth from Bidon, he made mention of the fact that he heads up the local community forum. In the event that anyone of you are faced with a similar situation or a problem of any sorts, you can inform him and he will notify all the respective farmers/land owners in the area who will then take action and come to your assistance.

Yes it is my side of the story, but the assailant was clearly there to do what he did and no attempt by myself to diffuse the situation helped. I honestly don’t think he saw the extension of my hand as provocation as it was done with my name as an introduction. Even if I had of used profanity in asking them to move aside, it still does not condone the action. I would hate to think that if it had of been a woman, child or elderly gent, whether this guy would of done the same thing.

Correct. My wife wrote the post. I was alone and rode passed them on the way to the caves. I can only think that he was part of the group and took it upon himself to chase after me. The actual assault happened probably 1.5 Kay’s from were the group was congregating

The trauma nurse has given us all the form numbers that need to be filled in etc. Have put it out on social media (Benefit of having a wife who has her own social media agency). Just to make people aware of the severity of the situation. Apologies if some people are squeamish. Once again, I appeal to anyone who may have seen a white male of large build hightailing it past them on MTB just as you turn onto the caves road. Timeframe would of been just before 8 in the morning. Alternatively if any one saw the same male coming in the opposite direction ( after the assault), possibly riding against the flow of cyclists, please PM me. Unfortunately I was more concerned about my safety at the time of the attack to take proper notice of what kit/ bike etc he was on. Like said, think it was either a yellow or orange mtb. Large male, english speaking with possibly a freckled completion. Was not in a recognisable club kit but looked to be wearing branded kit of sorts. This coward can not get away with this an I am almost certain that he and some of the group have seen and read these posts, here and on FB/Twitter/ Instagram. Please have a conscience and message me. If you stay quite, you are also guilty and just as cowardly as the assailant. I am still trying to process what sort of coward would do something like this and hate to think what he does behind closed doors to his spouse, partner, kids. On the positive side, surgery went well and luckily there were no missing teeth or broken bones.

One of the guys from the group followed me and assaulted me a distance away from where they were. That said you would think that he would of bragged or said something to the others and let’s hope that he or she has a conscience and says something

From what I can recall, seemed to be on burnt orange MTB. Possibly an e-bike as to have caught up with me doing over 30 Kmh. Hade a freckled complexion and was not in any recognisable club colours. Unfortunately was more concerned about my safety than anything else.

Are there any cyclists who cycled in the Cradle today? I need help tracking someone down. This person was in a group of 10-15, one of them seemed to behaving trouble. It was in the bend, leading into the caves road in Kromdraai. This group was spread out in the road. My husband asked that the group “move off/aside” and then continued on his cycle. One of the group took it upon themselves to ride after my husband, tell him to get off his bike so that he could “**** him up” (Classy!) when my husband tried to apologise and calm the situation, this person proceeded to run him off the road forcing him to uncleat. When my husband put out his hand to introduce himself, and apologise again to diffuse the situation this person proceeded to punch my husband in the face several times causing serious harm. The assault occurred around 07:45. We are now waiting for my husband to have surgery. If anyone hear this person bragging about his antics or was part of this group, please contact me, as this cannot be left with no consequences. A person can’t just get away with assault! SOMEONE in the cycling community must know this person and I would hope they can help us track him down. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those incredible people that did stop to help and especially the lady who stayed with my hubby till I could get there.

INMHO, for a 0.8% saving, i would'nt stress to much. That said, I normally remove just the front wheel's from my MTB bikes so as to avoid any possibility of exhaust burn.

Clearly entries must be down on previous years as got a mail yesterday that they have reopened entries for an additional R50 late entry penalty fee. Seeding has been a right royal F..up this year. Two mates of mine, one who finished last year in +/- 4hrs is seeded in D and the other who finished in just over 3hrs is seeded in M. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Could be as a result of overtightening the seat post clamp? Nothing a bit of black nail polish cant fix.

Primarily cost and safety. For your non main line events, you are still paying upwards of R400 to ride on roads that are full of potholes etc and playing dogems with all the taxis/trucks/cars/breakfast run motorbikes etc.

That why I will just ride my own race and try and avoid all the mess
