  1. Did a ride yesterday and Strava only properly sync'd with Discovery this morning so I can confirm that there's a definite delay...
  2. It Should Sync automatically... perhaps try reboot the phone (home button + on/off button at the same time for a few seconds). I would only worry about trying to manually sync if you notice on the Discovery site that you're not getting points for walking (Discovery website: Click: - vitality - points and status - vitality points monitor) I would perhaps try de-link and relink if that's possible... I know it's a mission and I figured mine out by trial and error... try this method me thinks- otherwise call Discovery (they're usually very good) or wait for Myles to help
  3. In order to link the Health app, you need to open the Discovery app on your phone, click on vitality and then click on devices and apps. Once you've done this, you then may need to open the Apple Health app, click on sources at the bottom. You should see Discovery listed there- click on this and select steps, workouts etc - this will enable the pedometer in the phone to sync with Vitality. The same needs to be done within the Health App if you use Strava. In order to link Strava (if you use it) - login to Discovery on their website, click on Vitality and then click on "Fitness Devices and Apps". Hope this helps
  4. I would also factor in the R/$ exchange rate... iStore even sent out an e-mail warning of a price increase due to currency volatility. Current Apple Watch will go up and this will give iStore even more of an excuse to hike the Apple Watch 2 price even higher (well when this is launched). Back to the topic at hand- I'm not entirely convinced of this whole Apple Watch/Vitality Deal- my friend works at Discovery (senior engineer), working below exco- He mentioned to me that Mr Gore and his minions or should I say actuaries have basically calculated that most people will be paying in by the 4th month. I also don't like the fact that Discovery didn't outright declare that max weekly goals are 1200 points- makes me wonder... had to call them to find this out. Also, if you're sick or on holiday- you'll still need to train to get points- they don't care about this. I'll wait for feedback from other before I dive in..
  5. Thanks for that... Polar H7 or Wahoo Tickr then?
  6. Hi folks.... I've seen a few of you mention which Bluetooth HR monitors you use but I was wondering which one I should get that'll work with Strava and my iPhone6... I wanna get a Garmin 520 at some point so should I go for a Garmin HR monitor for now and then have a spare one or should I look at a once off purchase of a Wahoo monitor?
  7. thanks for this... I should've mentioned that I was told not to use a high pressure washer- just finger on the hose pipe
  8. Hi guys, I've search for this topic but wasn't able to find any other similar topics so here goes.... I actually find it quite therapeutic to clean my own bike and was wondering if there's a specific brand/brands of cleaning kit that I should purchase to clean my MTB... I don't wanna go and buy some brand based on price (and then assume that cos of a higher price, it's better than others) only to find that it's rubbish and ruining my paint job and or components. Any feedback will be great appreciated
  9. Tis true, go have a look at the Discovery 2016 Vitality Brochure: https://discovery.co.za/portal/intermediary/vitality-brochures One of those should shed light on this- I can't find the exact link for the normal user brochure....
  10. Also on my list of things to do... Gonna chat to Peach about his courses and will then have a proper fitting done... Thanks for this
  11. are these photochromatic? Tried to look on the Rudy website and takealot but can't work it out. My pair say photochromatic on the lenses....
  12. Thanks for this- I was considering the skills course and seriously think it's a good idea- I know that you're in WC but do you know of any decent skills courses in Gauteng? I've found the following sites but not sure if the courses are decent: http://www.mtbskills.co.za/ http://treadskills.co.za/ (also based in WC) On me wish list
  13. All this new terminology... me and me friend google are having some serious bonding time
  14. Are you guys still speaking English- Eish ???? I'm completely lost on what you suggested above. I'm still a newbie at this..
  15. I think Carbon wheels are rather pricey + I've never ridden a bike with them so not sure what effect they would have- I have however heard that they are amazing - I suppose for the price that you pay for them, they should be epic! I'll deff look into the Wide Lightnings as recommended- Thanks Thanks for the input Again, thanks for this- I've read that if you upgrade the front fork, you need to upgrade the rear shock so that the travel in the same? What about a command post/dropper post?
  16. Hi guys (including Spec haters ), So I've had me 2015 Specialized Camber Comp Carbon for a few weeks now and really loving it but even as a newbie, one can't help getting all caught up in the "need to upgrade hype". Having said this, would you guys be able to help budget and plan the upgrades on my bike. 17. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record but thanks- I wasn't expecting this amount of feedback and input and this goes for everyone that's helped out. I've phoned around and as Johny mentioned- the 2016 price is in my opinion too much to spend for a first bile- I've already blown my first budget out the water, did the same with the second and here I am... I've paid a deposit on a 2015 Camber Comp Carbon 29- Going to get a demo bike tomorrow to try out again and will then begin eating plain bread for the next 3 months once I get my new bike I'm currently feeling like the kid who's locked out the candy store right now....
  18. Thanks for your feedback - all you guys are epic! I'm going back to the store this morning so will go with lots and lots of questions. It would be great if the Specialized website allowed you to compare different model years of their bikes on their site..... WIsh me luck!
  19. Thanks for all the input- Is the Carbon version not overkill for an enthusiast in the making? I'll certainly make enquiries in terms of the price... wee could be a lot
  20. Thanks for the feedback... I've heard about these haters
  21. Hi guys, So I'm new to this forum and new to Mountain Biking in general. I would really appreciate it if you guys could give me a bit of advice regarding the purchase of my first proper mtb. Quick history: Been to a few cycle shops and was most impressed by Complete Cyclist in Bedfordview- they invited me to the Modderfontein Nature Reserve this morning to try out some bikes (Specialized Epic Comp and Specialized Camber Comp). I rode both bikes and most certainly preferred the Camber Comp. Having said this, I realise that the bike which I rode was not the exact same bike which they've offered me- in fact it had slightly better components (Shimano Gears with Internal Cable Routing) than what they've offered me a deal on which is the Camber FSR Comp 29 - 2015 Model for R29 000. Is this a decent bike to start out with? When I usually make such purchases, I like to get something that's quite decent and something that I won't need to change for the next few years (considering that I'm keen to do casual riding at this stage). I'm also not sure on the price that they've offered me or if I should consider the 2016 model which is going for +- R33 000. Having said this, their service has been excellent and it's the type of store which I'd like to build a relationship with cos I know that they'll take care of me. I would really appreciate your guys input... Thanks, Martin
