  1. This is already a rule. While it isn't used for funrides, it is there and is implemented with the leagues. It can be very difficult to enforce this rule, but there have been riders DQ'd this season for breaking this rule.
  2. And it is now Friday and still no word.....
  3. There are so many rumours about this tour. I just find it very strange we haven't had a press release yet naming the title sponsors etc. If there is over R 1 mill for prizes and probably another R 1 mill for running costs etc the sponsor is going to want mega coverage. At this rate they aren't going to get it. I really hope it does take place as it will be very good fro SA Cycling and our top riders, but hold little hope (please prove me wrong). A month to go and not enough information available.
  4. 10% of prize money is paid to Cycling SA but not to the officials. However, if an event uses Cycling SA officials there is also a cost which is paid to the officials. While I am the first to admit there are rude officials we must also remember that most of the officials are there for the good of the sport and are there to uphold the rules which are neccesary in every sport. The officials have expenses in doing their jobs and need to get compensation for these. The amount paid to officials is set out by Cycling SA but officials do sometime set their own rates as well, usually in agreement with the event organisers. Note: I am not an official nor am I part of Cycling SA, I am an event organiser who has to pay the officials etc etc. I don't mind paying anybody for services rendered, as long as I get the service I need. I have had problems in the past with officials, but generally these are sorted out through the WP officials Association and I am generally happy with the level of service.
  5. I just find this so called letter to the editor very interesting. Was this letter seriously written by Colin Hoffman? If it was, then I question why was somebody with such a limited use of English entrusted with the running of the national body's website. Sure the person running the website doesn't have to right all the articles but they must be able to express themselves properly. The reason I question as to whether Colin Hoffman actually wrote this letter, is that he runs a golfing newsletter and ran the Clubhouse cycling newsletter which used to be published on a weekly basis one or two years ago. Surely somebody who runs, or has run, two newsletters can express themselves better than this, even if English is not their mother tongue? For example: - To say somebody is a "highly expected person involved with a highly expected company...", please are we expecting a baby sometime? Respected is the word people. If this is the standard of letter this person writes, I can only feel that Cycling SA would do well to get rid of him and replace him with somebody who has better command of their languages. To end it all, the letter ends, "Kind regards, Boys,..." Sarcasm, maybe, but then it is said sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Just my 2c worth
  6. Hey, just because you are jealous............
  7. Drink a beer and swop war stories - anytime!! Now just to get the training in, that's already one challenge (just the rondloop part might worry me, after 8 days of riding, I might not be in the state for any rondloop ).
  8. I actually don't know where any of my medals are. I think they've all been thrown out, and that includes 2 Two Oceans and 2 Comrades and plenty plenty funride (world funride champs and such like included) and other running ones. Basically, been there done that, don't need the t-shirt/medal/badge/whatever to show others. I know what I've done and haven't done.
  9. Great pics, thanks. Always nice to actually see a bit of what happened out there instead of only seeing the entries, start, finish and prize-giving. Now who ordered that bloody rain at the prize-giving, that really stuffed things up a bit. Oh well, hopefully it will be good weather for the D C next week.
  10. But you can still bad-mouth fatcyclist smileys/smiley36.gif" align="middle" /> Oops from now on I had better respect the big man hey, or else he will shut me up - he he. Congrats guys and I am sure you will all help admin control us unruly mob. It's good to have some extra eyes watching for potential trouble. At the same time a BIG THANKS to Admin for you efforts in putting the forum together and keeping it running. I am sure that, while we don't say it, we ALL appreciate it. smileys/smiley32.gif" align="middle" /> smileys/smiley32.gif" align="middle" /> smileys/smiley32.gif" align="middle" /> Francois2006-10-31 08:01:45
  11. Without making excuses for other people, I do know that they did have problems with the recoding box on Saturday and then somehow, to add to the fun, a bunch of Sub-Vets had a collision with the timing box (guys you don't need to race for the mat, the leagues positions are taken by camera with the mats as back up!!). The final "corrected" league results will be posted today once I have finished checking them. By the way, the weather in Drban is great today - he he
  12. From Cyclingnews.com "The Navigators team has improved its climbing power by signing South African Darren Lill to its team for 2007. This year, Lill wore the King of the Mountains jersey at such races as the Tour de Langkawi and the Giro Del Capo. Lill will be the first South African to join the American outfit. Lill previously rode for teams Barloworld, HSBC, and Microsoft, but was left without a contract at the end of the 2005 season. Discussions with a major team fell through last year, so Lill missed the chance to sign with a European Continental team. Too late to find a team for 2006, Lill split his time between racing for Schwinn in his native South Africa and the National team in international events such as the Tour de Langkawi , Tour of Qinghai Lake and the World Championships. Darren is happy to have signed a contract with Navigators for 2007 and forward to meeting his new team-mates and racing with them in Europe and the US. Navigators was one of several teams making offers to Lill." It will be interesting to see how he fits into the American setup - I hope it all goes well for him.
  13. KlapperKnop - it's got nothing to do with the organisers - it's the politics behind it all. Believe me we have some very capable organisers in the Western Cape and Boland (I obviously have to exclude myself from this remark as I can't judge if I am any good - would be slightly biased ), but the problems have nothing to do with the actual events themselves, it's all politics which I now try to keep out of.
  14. Dick, check your post. I have had this before when I accidently clicked "post" twice quickly in succession. The 1st click does post and the system obviously throws the second posting out. If it's something else I am sure admin will assist when he gets the time.
  15. Colonel - If you're a vet and hold a licence you're more than welcome to enter the PPA Superwatt Vets Tour. Those are the entry specifications. I can also assure all cycllists that the neccesary road permissions have been obtained and the fees paid to the relevant traffic departments.
  16. Oh the politics of it all. Lets hope something is saved, but the PPA Superwatt Vets Tour is definitley still on and there has been a good number of entries so far. Groot Lem - good luck boet!!
  17. Hey Colonel - not shouting at anybody, especially not you If I want to take somebody on about something being said I do it by PM not in public. Latrinus - believe me we have looked at the idea. Originally the vets tour and the Tour de Boland were going to be one event. Don't ask me what happened - I wasn't involved in the negotiations so I can't comment or say who did what. We did hear that the Tour de Boland was to happen, hence leaving the Elites etc out. At this late stage we won't be able to help, but hopefully by next year it can all be sorted out. Esp, with Groot Lem having more of a say. Here's hoping both Tours will take place and both will be a success
  18. As the organisers of the PPA Superwatt Vets and Sub Vets Tour we have nothing against the Tour de Boland and as I said earlier in this thread I hope it does happen. Let's wait for Groot Lem to let us know.
  19. I hope for the cyclists sake something can be recovered. The vets have the PPA Superwatt 3 Day this weekend, bu it wold be nice for the Elites to have something to ride. But then this event has had a chequered history with prizemoney outstanding from a few years ago (I know, my old team CSC is still waiting). But, best of luck Groot Lem, hopefully you can get something organised and if not this year, hopefully sometime in the future. And all the best as the new Chairman. I am sure you will do great things there.
