  1. Running it 1 X on a Gravel Grinder I'm busy building. Got a chainring for it already.
  2. Thanks for the advice, guys, but I have already measured it and confirmed that it is 170mm. Not completely clueless regarding these things. LOL..... Just responded to 117 to check the markings on the inside of the crank arm. All that I could discern was the very faint FC-M532, the rest is polished/sanded off, therefore I measured it, as ChrisF suggested.
  3. I would, if it was legible.....
  4. If it will fit on the crank spline, I'll take it. Thanks.
  5. Good day fellow Hubbers. Looking for a non-drive side (left side) crank arm for an oldish Shimano Mtb crankset. One pinch bolt broke off by ham-fisted home mechanic, who passed it on to me to try and salvage. Being ham-fisted myself (or rather lack of proper work area with a vice, etc) I got the broken pinch bolt out, and drilled and tapped the mangled threaded side for the installation of a heli-coil, but I drilled it a bit skew, and now it does not align, and as a result I can't get the pinch bolt in. Tried to open it up a bit to improve the alignment, but to no avail. End result, a now totally Fubar'ed crank arm. So if any one has one of these laying around, I'll gladly take it of your hands. Shimano FC-M532
  6. @David Marshall. I was led to believe that piece of plastic is quite crucial, in that it helps space the gap between the two sides of the crank arms, preventing over torquing and help with retention of the two crank arm bolts. The friend I gave my one to chucked his away, thinking it was superflous. He then started having problems with the bolts working loose, one incident the whole crank arm worked loose. After inserting the lock plate, he never had that issue again. Edit: After a bit of googling, it seems David and Diesel are more or less correct in that it's main purpose seems to ensure the crankarm is located properly on the crank (if not, the tab will stand proud and not sit flush) Thanks Gents.
  7. Where will I be able to find this item in Cape Town? Busy with a hybrid Gravel Bike build, and want to use an old set of Shimano cranks, but this plate got donated to a friend when he was looking for one.
  8. Off course I'm a chop too. I try hard not to be, but that Grumpy Old Fart is always busy boiling right under the surface. Keeping him there is bloody hard work.
  9. So, as you admit, there is a bit of a chop in you (all cyclists) I have the viewpoint that there must be a hidden microswitch in the chamois of the bibs, which switches the owner/rider's brain off as soon as his behind hits his seat.
  10. Eish, some people darem....... No, it would be clear that there is/was one responsible person calling out a couple of chops who endangered other people's lives with their reckless behavior.
  11. Cyclists are chops, period. Cycling back from the memorial ride for Dennis Hammar on Sunday morning, I was stationary at a red traffic light, when a couple of chops on their bikes (all dressed as Pro's) just blew through, swerving between the vehicles that has right of way and busy crossing the intersection. I called out to them that the light is red, and they should stop, only to be sworn at by the last rider to blow through and told to mind my own business. I shouted back that it's OK, they are potential organ donors and to carry on. I looked at the cars stationary next to me and shrugged my shoulders. I at least got a look of understanding back from one of the drivers. I SAY AGAIN, CYCLISTS ARE CHOPS!!!!
  12. This is really heartbreaking. 77 years old, going out for a cycle to stay fit and healthy, only to get murdered by a cretin for a cellphone (or was anything stolen at all) Hopefully the powers that be will now take notice and action. Sad that a person had to lose his life due to the inaction of the authorities. @PPA and @Stay wider of the Rider, I trust you will act swiftly and in the best interest of the cyclists. RIP fellow rider, and condolences to his family and friends.
  13. OK, flashy, but not as flashy as the Kreidler/Zundapp/Puch brigade was. I had to settle for the SS as my first bike. That thing was abused, even did duty as a scrambler when the need arises. Had many a "heat seize" but survived it all. OK, back to the original subject.... Sorry for the slight hijack
  14. Lemme guess, Honda SS 50.
  15. I had an episode with a "reseller" a few years back when they just got active on Bike Hub. A private seller advertised an item I was dearly looking for at a really good price. (it was for a set AM Classic road wheels I was longing after) .I noticed his add within 10 minutes of it going up, and contacted him immediately, only to be told Mr XYZ already contacted him and the item was "reserved". I asked if he received any payment for the item, and he replied in the negative. I then contacted the "buyer/reseller" to ask if I could buy the item from the original seller, as he has not made payment yet, or received the item Reseller then told me I can buy the items from him at about a 100% mark up. Told him to reconsider as I knew what the original selling price was, only to be told "take it or leave it" Well, I left it, but this left a very sour taste in my mouth as I could not believe the audacity and sheer arrogance of the reseller. I made a point to never buy anything from him from then on.
  16. I drove past there this morning and noticed a Camera on top of the pole on which one of the Speed Cameras is mounted. Not sure if it works, and who controls it, but there should (in theory) be camera evidence of the robberies taking place there. On another note, even though it was extremely misty with poor visibility, I noticed more "recreational cyclist" without any warning lights, than cyclists with lights. BLOWS MY MIND!!!!!
  17. Cannot remember, but it was nothing more than a mere rap over the knuckles.
  18. This is an old story, ran a few months back also. Somebody just regurgitated it. He got identified then and dealt with. Not approving his behavior, just saying.
  19. Lyne Components Holy Rail for the win.
  20. Go back and insist they open an Attempted Murder or at the least an Assault GBH case, as these perp's actions COULD have caused your death if you had to fall in the roadway and get flatten by a vehicle. Their actions could potentially have this result, intended or not. I would suggest this to all the latest, and heavens forbid, any future victims of these heartless and braindead scum. Should they refuse to do it, insist to speak to the most senior person on duty, but push to speak to the Station Commander (sorry, old term, not sure what he will be called now, but he is the Main Peanut in the packet there.)
  21. So what do you guys suggest be done to remedy this situation? Honest question, not trolling. SAPS clearly has no interest, private security companies previously patrolled the area, and even had a vehicle stationed close by, but that has now also fallen to the wayside. Probably due to cost.
  22. I have the Tektro "single piston" versions on my bike. It's a faf to set up and dial in properly, but once set up, they are quite effective in stopping me as good, if not better, than the Ultegra rim brakes on my road bike. Done a fair bit of single track riding, and I've never felt that I'm gonna run out of brakes. Not sure they'll be efficient on long and steep downhills though.
  23. I'm busy with my second Monster Cross/Gravel Donkey conversion, this time utilizing a Titan Cruz 29'er frame that has a much more modern/up to date geometry compared to my current build with a mid 2000's vintage Haibike frame. I must still procure a new BB and Headset and respray the frame (not yet sure what I want to do as far as colors are concerned) I must also decide whether I'm again going the drop bar route, or use a narrowish Mtb flat bar (I can then use the Sram 11spd Mtb group set I have in stock)
  24. I believe one (some) of the original developers/engineers are still involved with the Varia and G.
