  1. Joined 15 December 2004. Started as Wannabe. Saw many a member come and go. Sadly, only a few of the old guard is still here.
  2. Have you found one yet? I have a Mosso Aluminum straight steerer, cut to 190mm, that I am not using at the moment (used on my previous Gravel Grinder build) Where are you staying, I'm in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.
  3. Proper reply down below.
  4. Eyewitness and other reports suggest the cyclist suffered a fatal heart attack. No vehicle involved.
  5. Thank you for the feedback and advice, Guys. I must clearly be a bit more patient with the recovery.
  6. I am a regular Blood Donor, and after my last donation on Monday 05/01/2026 the Blood Bank contacted me to inform me my blood iron levels were low and advised me to go see my Docter ASAP, which I promptly did. A full blood and stool test was done to try and establish what the situation is, and it transpired that my Ferritin levels was low at 9%, but no obvious reason for the low levels could be established. We suspect it could be because my iron levels do not get enough time to recover between my blood donations. I do eat red meat, poultry and a range of greens, but obviously my body do not absorb it fast enough. My Docter placed me on a course of medicine to accelerate the absorption of iron to assist with the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin. I have been taking this (QuadroFER) as prescribed for the last week, but a bit of research has taught me that to get the levels back to normal can take from three to six months, time which I do not have as the World Fun Championships is now in less than two months. I did notice over the last few months that I'm quite lethargic, tired, more irritable than normal (I'm a Grumpy old Man by default) and that my performance on the bile took a downward curve as my legs always felt "dead" especially on climbs and when the group pushed the pace a bit. At first, I put this down to conditioning, but after the December ramp in training it is quite improbable. It got so bad that towards the end of December I had a hard time keeping my normal pace up climbs/ramps like of Polkadraai, etc. (this I later learnt is a symptom of the low Iron/Ferritin levels) My question is, is there a way to increase/accelerate the return to normal levels safely and without possible negative effects. I have been back on my bike once since I started with the treatment course, with no improvement, as can be reasonably expected due to the long recovery period.
  7. On our ride this morning, riding in single file, we had an idiot coming up next to us, and proceeded to start turn left in front of us. At least he put his indicator on, which I saw, and I shouted a warning that he was going to turn in front of us. We were able to slow down/come to a stop so that this idiot could go on his merry way, blissfully unaware of the life's he just put in danger.
  8. My old SRAM Force 22 10 spd right shifter's "shifting paddle" broke. Anyone has either a paddle or a shifter laying around that's not being used? This is on my cheapie build Gravel Hybrid. Still saving for a proper gravel groupset.
  9. Rumor has it that this POS is a medical Docter from Jozi. What a role model.
  10. Good day fellow Tygerburger's. Has anyone ridden the new Oatlands Cafe Corridor? How is it and the new trails, and where is this corridor accessed from?
  11. They started to patch those potholes last week. Still spotty, but less potholes.
  12. Devon valley rd is safe, absolutely no incidents reported as yet. There is also a 60km/h speed limit on the road which the residents adhere to. Road is narrow with no shoulders in areas, but the road is quiet. Safer than past Kayamandi or Cloetesville with all the roadwork/construction/construction vehicles.
  13. cskosan did well on yesterday's stage. He says the sun is coming out, looks like it's going to be a good day.
  14. I just did a cursory search, and there are a couple of 26" bikes that looks in decent condition available in the "For Sale" section right now that is in his stated budget range..
  15. As Droo says, if you want to learn how to repair your older technology bike yourself, this is a great opportunity (if you are handy with tools). Having "revived" a few of these older/cheaper bikes myself, it is rewarding to bring them back to life, but they are not that rewarding to ride yourself. They take away a lot from the satisfaction of riding a bike. I would go for a bike that is more recent, and in better condition. This specific bike will be a challenge for even an experienced DIY wrencher, especially those rusty V-Brakes..
  16. I agree. My roadbike is circa 2009, my Mtb is circa 2013, my Gravel Bike the frame circa 2019, built up with a mix match of "leftovers" Will a 400k (or even a 40k) bike make me any faster or give me more joy, I doubt it. My bikes are all well looked after and serviced, everything on them work as it should, it is up to me to make them move and therein lies the limiting factor.
  17. Man, this is on my to do list. (Joberg2C was an absolute blast, this can be no different)
  18. Looking for a working RHS SRAM Force 11spd shifter. (or any other 11spd Sram shifter) Condition does not matter much, it must just be 100% operational.
  19. Entry done!! Will be my 21st (and probably last) CTCT.
  20. You've piqued my interest. I love my Vittorias on my Mtb.
  21. I need 50mm and Tanwall. Black will not look as good on my bike.
  22. As the title says, which one of the two (both in 50mm) would you prefer for riding predominantly tar to the gravel sections, and the occasional Klipheuwel trails and similar. As said, it would be a mixture of tar and gravel roads, nothing gnarly "offroad" riding is planned for now.
  23. This is my version of a "Hybrid Gravel Grinder" Started off with a +-2014 vintage Titan Cruze Mtb frame. This frame was completely stripped of all paint, back to bare aluminium. A coat of Rustoleum etch primer was applied. Then started the process of laying down two layers of Rustoleum Metallic Copper spray paint followed by two layers of Rustoleum Gloss Clear coat. Adequate time was given between the different coats/layers for the paint to flash of and cure before applying the next coat. (no polishing was done yet, this is the way it came out) Decals was printed by a gentleman in Brackenfell at a very reasonable price and quality. The components fitted is all second hand items taken of my old gravel hybrid I built a few years back. Only new cables and inners was fitted as well as a new Shimano BB. Components is 10spd SRAM Force shifters mated to a 10spd SRAM X9 rear derailleur with an 11-36 SRAM cassette and Rapide 36 tooth NW chainring fitted to a 3 X Shimano Deore chainring (some fiddling with the spacers was needed to get the chain line good as I'm running it 1X) The chain is SRAM 11spd. Shifting is good, as the components are all well run in and in good condition, as well as properly adjusted. Handlebar is a Rapide 440mm Gravel bike item. Brakes are well used Tektro cable pull jobbies. These work fine on the bike after careful set-up and adjusting. Braking is as good as if not better than the Ultegra's on my road bike. Tires are a mix of 38 mm Tan Gravel king on the front and a 40mm Maxxis Rambler at the back, fitted to Ksyrium Mtb wheels of unknown age. Fork is of an unknown brand to me, carbon jobby with huge crown and clearance all around. 50 mm tan wall tires will be fitted as soon as I have the funds, as the tires currently fitted looks a bit anorexic in the frame. Seat is a hand-me-down from a friend, mostly because there is some color coordination going on. Seat post is a Richey aluminum item. Only done one short shakedown ride as yet, and I'm quite impressed with the ride quality, and nothing fell off during the ride. Lol...
  24. Anybody ever printed one of these, or would like to attempt to?
  25. Collected today. Thank you Droo, it fits as if it was made for that crankset. Lol.....
