  1. I'm a trifle confused. Seems E-Bikes are faster uphill's but slower on downhills. On uphill's the battery helps, on downhills the speed restriction kicks in and the motor switches off. Surely then the solution is to have all E-Bikes derestricted (chipped) so that they don't cause hold ups on the downhills. 😉😉 ***** waits for the mob to start stoning.
  2. I don't see anything new here that hasn't been raised before on different anti E-Bike threads. Thought this was done and dusted. Guess the haters will keep on hating.

  5. you can drop at bike wash at northern farms
  6. that world has long gone with the advent of e-bikes and their acceptance in events
  7. if it was my cat ill be in car tracking her
  8. if you in gauteng try bikemarket.co.za good bikes good prices good advice
  9. your location would be helpful point you to right shop etc
  10. so you just posted the dudes full name and cell number here to me that's a very dick move
  11. okay lets break down your points one at a time torque since an e-bike just adds to the effort the legs put in how does the motor increase the torque torque is sum of legs and motor so regardless of torque source both e-bikes and non e-bikes need same power to go up a hill fat knobby tires most e-bikes don't have fat knobby tires they have normal bike tires, and non e-bikes can also have fat knobby tires bike weight the thing here is person weight not bike weight 9 kg difference in bike weights can be nullified by 15 kgs of extra body weight. so not an e-bike specific issue still don't see any hard scientific facts that say e-bikes do more damage
  12. I battle to understand how anyone can say that damage was e-bike that damage wasn't. Also not sure why people say e-bike will cause more damage than a normal bike. To my mind riders mode of riding stuffs up trails, not what bike is ridden.
  13. Have dealt with Thomas in the past, new set of wheels and tyres. Absolute pleasure to work with. No hassles will use him again and again.
  14. Lots of talk about e-bikers been called dopers. fair chirp. But isn't the reality that the guys who ride the CTCT and other events for time, the guys chasing time, is where the real doping problem lies. I would venture that if you compare people getting an unfair advantage in events, then the figures about guys actually cheating via actual doping far outweighs some guy on an e-bike gaining an advantage. The focus and hurt about e-bikers doping is very misplaced. Efforts would be better spent on tackling the real doping problem.
  15. yep good advice this is what Eskom and Transnet did they put accountants in charge and appointed accountants to do the audit
  16. Uhmm nope don't agree. The OP wasn't after constructive help to manage STRAVA or accommodate guys with e-bikes on STRAVA. He out and out wanted them banned. He didn't want help to manage the perceived problem he wanted the problem removed. Below is his original post. Hey all, I'm sure this has been asked before, but do E-bike records belong on strava? (among normal pedaling records and people who drive their cars on roads with their garmins still on😁🤷🏻‍♂️) I don't think so.
  17. My daily commute to office is 50 km one way, 100 kms both ways. 3 hours in a car. With respect that's not the right conditions for an e-Bike commute or any bike. My major concern with current day South Africa is people always look at any issue from their own personal circumstances and viewpoint and don't consider RSA at at large. Case in point is mini bus taxis. Guys in cars hate them, people in townships without an alternative option love them. If people understood that conditions and circumstances in RSA vary (and probably more that any where else in the world) we might be able to have a different mindset to issues other than our own rose tinted glasses.
  18. I'm not sure what you use STRAVA for? I'm definitely not chasing any KOMs. My son lives and works in South Korea. He and his lady friend cycle and run. I have a mate in Durban who cycles. The guy in Durban rides an e-Bike due to having had a triple heart bypass. My wife runs and cycles as well. All 4 plus myself use STRAVA. We log our rides. We share the experiences, give kudos, comment on rides. Now by your logic my mate in Durban shouldn't be allowed to share his experience in over coming major heart surgery. he should be excluded. Please just accept the fact that people use bicycles and tools like STRAVA for different reasons. Yours is chasing KOMs , mine is sharing experiences. If you accept that people are different then perhaps you wouldn't have such a narrow minded view of E-Bikes and STRAVA. As someone replied to your post above. Grow a pair.
  19. That's your view and hey you entitled to it. However hundreds of main stream cycle companies who make normal bikes and e-bikes don't agree with you. Neither do the millions of riders who have bought e-bikes world wide and cycle don't agree with you. In addition guys and bodies like PPA, who put together events like the Cape Cycle Tour, the Ride Joburg etc. (cycle races) or cycle events) also don't agree with you as in a cycle race they make provision for e-bikes.
  20. isnt it better to not look at appearances and also not to judge both ways lets people be
  21. I don't ride events to race, I ride events to ride, its simple. I have been cycling for close on 25 years. I have yet to do a RACE, even though i have done Argus, 94.7, Tour D' Urban , Ama Shova Shova
  22. Okay so lets say that the CTCT has 35 000 riders (before CIVID figure). Are you saying all 35 000 are racing? I don' t in my wildest dreams accept that. To my mind probably 5 000 are racing and the other 30 000 are enjoying the ride. Now if you just enjoying the ride who cares if you riding alongside e bikes or not. Im sure the Tour in the events name gives a clue. Its called the Cape Town Cycle TOUR. not the Cape Town Cycle Race.
  23. Yes its acceptable
  24. finish line cycles in kempton do a finish line shirt in that price range
