  1. Could be a number of things... #1. your LBS might have an XT freehub body that they can't get rid of or some sour grapes... #2. could be the way you clean your bike... High pressure/solvent use/ not rinsing properly. #3. a dud freehub... #4. the service before K2C was bodged... How do you clean your bike?
  2. I don't want to come across as cynical. I just genuinely want to know how many bikes get recovered like this?
  3. How do you measure your body fat? We have one of those Health measure machines at the gym that measures blood pressure and Body fat %, BMI and and and, but I'm not convinced it's accurate at all. According to that thing my BMI is 24.4 (which is apparently very close to overweight) and my body fat % is 11.6% (which is well into the endurance athlete zone). I weigh 81.8kg and 1.8m tall.

If I think about punctures I've seen totals look like: Tyre-liners - 2 (1 thorn and 1 cut sidewall) Slime filled tubes - 2 (1 happened while the bike was parked ) Tubeless - 3 (2 were burps of which 1 ended in some bruising.)

All tyres puncture. Some just puncture easier than others.
  6. Where did you find that?
  7. +1 The difference between climbing with tubeless vs tubes and liners is astounding.
  8. I use one of those Giant ones. Use it with good thumping tunes or with some sport on TV... However, I find that IDT sessions "sit" in the muscles for a LONG time... So I try not to have a tough session on the IDT when there's less than 8 days to an event I want to do.
  9. It's the standard kind. I use it in coffee and over my pap in the mornings. Sorry I'm not very technical when it comes to milk
  10. Okay, okay... You drive a hard bargain. I'll throw in a plastic bag to sweeten the deal. It's basically brand new, only has a small hole on the bottom, you can barely see it. R17 excluding postage non negotiable I'll ship to anywhere in South Africa.
  11. Well at first I thought it might just be me, but then I opened up Microsoft Paint and filled and entire page with only WHITE. I printed the page and compared the color to the milk bottle. Strues bob, the milk is a creamier color. It really clashes with the white of my fridge. I don't think I can keep it. Does anyone want 2 liters of creamy white milk? I bought it for R15.95, but I'll let it go for R17 because I did some color comparison tests on it and I'm just trying to make up the money I spent on ink and paper.
  12. I've just come home from the cafe, unpacked the plastic bag and guess what; The 30c plastic bag has a hole in it! Surely one cannot be expected to pay hard earned money for a plastic bag with hole in it? To make my unpacking experience even worse, I realized the the milk I bought isn't 100% white! Can you believe that!? My full cream milk has a creamy tint to it. FFS man! Couldn't the diary farmer go the extra mile and make sure the freaking milk is 100% white!? All of this after I got lost on my way to the local cafe because "Lekke-koop Superette" didn't think as far as to put up directional boards indicating where they were. The manager, Os le Roux, refused to reimburse my fuel costs and told me to take my holy plastic bag and my creamy colored milk and get the hell out of his shop before he introduces my scull to the pavement. I'm sorry, but we get taken for a ride way to often in this country and it's time to put our foot down!
  13. Cajees in Centurion had one the other day. A Spark 40, that is. I was very temped to grab it and run out the shop... It's a thing of beauty!
  14. 2cents. We all hate Cajees... BUT! They have an 09 Scott Contessa(that means ladies) Spark 25 for R11500 Not under 10 either BUT that is a LOT of bike for that money and it weighs in at about 11.5kg!!! This is it: It's at the Centurion branch if you want to go have a look.
  15. D-R we all know you're special like that Tinkerbell, Non tubeless Maxxiss Monorails aren't very expensive. Slap one on your front wheel, keep the Crossmark on the rear. It's the best +-R250 "upgrade"/"up-trade" you'll make on your bike. Keep the Crossmark you take off the front as a spare.
  16. Shjo, I see a big discussion coming... Tinkerbell, The Maxxis Crossmarks are known to be "skittish" as a front wheel. Replace the front tyre with a Maxxis Monorail and you won't believe it's the same bike. Now to kick off the discussion... Tyres have a min and max tyre pressure printed on them. Maxxis Crossmark and Monorails are 35 - 60 PSI. Even the tubeless ones. So it's printed on the tyre that it wants to be inflated between 2.4BAR and 4.1BAR... 35PSI(2.4BAR) will keep the tyre ON the rim and minimize chances of pinch flats/snake bites. Now, sure there is a "safety factor" worked in here which needs to cater for weight and riding style. Call me old fashioned but I don't want to take the chance of my front wheel "burping" with me bombing down a rocky decent. So I ride 35PSI on my tubeless setup. Used to ride 43PSI with tubes. You're about my GF's size and I inflate her tyres to 2BAR, because she's a light weight AND she rides like the girl she is. I have her safety in mind by running her no lower than 2BAR. So FPC outjie, expect an "oeroe-wapper" next time you deflate them to 1.4 before the race
  17. Huh... CS300 uploads: Max: Speed, HR, Cad(opt) Avg: Speed, HR, Cad(opt) Fat percentage Distance Calories Duration Upper and lower training zone limits. Plus time under,in and over training zone. And it loads up "OwnIndex" So unless you go the GPS route, how much more do you need to log? Have to admit that I won't buy Polar again though. It gets deurmekaar very easily. That FR60 does look like it has some nice features...
  18. You only need the watch and a mic on your PC. The data transfer sounds like what old modems used to when they connected to the web. Krrrr krrr kr krrrrkrrr kr krr krrrkr There was a topic at one point about how to pimp your data transfer. But it's not rocket science. Click "listen" on the PC and press "Send" on the CS300... krrrkrr krkrkrrrkrrrr krrrr ... tatda!!
  19. 1) You can upload training data to the polarpersonaltrainer.com website with the CS300. 2) There are also a couple of training programs available on the site. 3) Following a HR based training program to the T isn't always easy, unless you do it on a IDT... Which will be boring as all hell. You'll find a balance and get to know how your body reacts to exercise... Like I know my HR jumps 4 - 5 bpm when I take in fluid. I also know that 150bpm is my max HR for at least the first 5mins of exercise, and only after about 40mins I can reach my real 100% @ 183bpm
  20. Perhaps, but were they this entertaining?
  21. mmm... You're not filling me with confidence or hope for the Crossmark at the back... I've seen non-ammonia sealants being punted here and there. Are any of them any good? But with my UST tyres and a big bottle of Stan's in the post I doubt I'll have issues again... I'll do a postmortem on the Monorail and post some pics after the weekend... Yeah there was a PG16 age restriction on language used... According to the Stan's website the soapy water acts as a lubricant for the bead to move to it's seated position. I didn't use a compressor or bomb, just a normal floor pump and some elbow grease. Okay, some more notes on tubeless: *. Maxxis Monorail wirebead non UST developed a strange thread shift bubble kinda thing after attempted tubeless setup and reverted back to tubed. *. Conti Speedking non-ust not happening with Joe's. Side wall perforations were problematic. we have a tiny knowledgeable base developing here
  22. The Crossmark held up beautifully on last night's 28km ride. However the Monorail did not survive. The tread "shifted" at the fountain tear... A bubble, for the lack of a better explanation. I have to say that I climbed MUCH better that usual last night. A combination of lower tyre pressure and lighter tubeless setup at the back as well as riding with 32Gi for the first time.
  23. Thanks N, I don't feel like cleaning anymore sealant off my garage floor. That was painfull... But it'll be interesting to know if the silicone trick actually works... hehehe, fo sho. I did feel like finding a Black Label and flexing a muscle after the whole ordeal. Just a little update; I went out into the velt behind our complex now. Just for a little 10min dash to put the Crossmark through it's paces. Hit a couple of rocks and a couple of off-camber ruts and bunny hopped a couple of times and the Crossmark is still at 35PSI.
  24. My guess is stretched or dirty/sticky cables. I fit new casings and cables yesterday and my gear changes are QUICK now.
  25. Kay, so due to an incident with my previous wheelset, my Giant Thermo2 now has a XT wheelset The XTs are a tubeless wheelset, so no Ghetto setup here. I've been running tubed since I got the wheelset 3 weeks ago, but yesterday after installing "continuous cabling" on my steed I decided that I'll run down to the shops and buy for myself some nice Stan's Sealant. (R180 after some negotiations for the small bottle at Cajees(I know, I know)). So I get back home and get straight to work. I rip of my front wheel, "un-seat" the one bead, yank out the tube, install the XT valve, re-install the bead, brush some foamy Sunlight water over the open beam, pat-pat-pat and PUMP with my floor pump. Whalaah!!! The bead seats and there is bubbles all around the rim... But I got it to seat... "Shweet" I think to myself. So I "un-seat" the bottom portion of the wet bead, measure off 1 and 3/4 cups of Stan's into the tyre, re-seat, brush soapy solution, spin the wheel a bit so the Stan's can get to where it needs to be, pat-pat-pat and PUMP. Just like before there's no issue with the Monorail's wire bead and it seats quickly. The Stan's is doing it's thing on the bead and after about a minute of pumping air stops escaping from the bead/seat BUT I cant get the tyre over a bar. So I discover a slice in the side wall and 2 slices in the thread. "MMMMmmm"... The Stan's can't cope with the slices and just shoots out... Okay... So I patch them with some patch and solution from the inside. (I have no idea if this will actually work for an extended period of time...) I refill with 2 cups of Stan's and I get the tyre up to a bar. All good. Then I set the tyre onto it's sides as per the videos on the Stan's website (and youtube) while I start with the Crossmark at the back (also non UST). I go through the motions with the Crossmark and every thing goes smoothly. I had to convince the bead to seat by patting the tyre while I pump. No need for a gym session after all that. Once the bead seated and 2 smaller holes in the thread stopped leaking air I returned to the Monorail. I got 35PSI in it and spun it around and shaked it a bit every 2 or 3 minutes. Got the Crossmark up to 35PSI too and did the same. So after about 30minutes, I install the wheels on the bike and go for a test loop around the complex. "Wow, what a difference". The ride is softer, more supple. The wheels feel light and the bike just wants to run! So back in my garage I start to tidy up and wiping up the 1 and 3/4 cups of Stan's off the floor. I hear the neighbor and decide to go show her what I did. Herself being an experienced cyclist and all. As I roll out of my garage and make turn past another group of peeps a fountain of Stan's erupts from the Monorail. Children run closer to come and play in the fountain, one oke checks me like I've pimped my bike NFS underground style and the neighbor wants to know "en nou???". Not cool... Investigation showed later that there was a massive cut where the fountain of Stan's escaped from. So the reason for the post is this. I want to share a couple of notes about my experience with my fellow hubbers: *. Wire bead tyres do seat on XT rims *. You can use a floor pump, but you need to be fit *. You can use non UST tyres *. Remember to brush on the soapy solution, it acts like lubricant for the tyre beads to seat. *. If you are going to use old tyres to run tubeless make sure they don't have massive cuts. Don't bother with a tyre that has a side wall cut. *. Invest in some of those UST puncture plugs things and have them ready when you do your setup. *. 4 cups of Stan's on the floor will make you want to cry a little. The Monorail is tubed with a tyreliner again, but the Crossmark is holding steady at 35PSI. I'll ride it like that tonight and if you hear from me in the morning, that means I'm still alive. In the meantime I have a UST monorail and Kenda Nevegal and a BIG bottle of Stan's on the way from CT (thanks CWC).
