  1. From the Amashova thread. Well done on raising R1.3m, and good on you for owning up, but I'm sorry, your muscle flexing endangered my life and tainted an absolutely brilliant day. So you break the 3 hour mark. So what? I did it with really bad case of ITB and with only gym work as training, and a young laaitie did it with a prosthetic right leg(I was seriously impressed by him). A bunch of big names doing it in under 3 hours proves nothing other than you're content with spoiling the fun for others just so you can feel mucho.
  2. Yes this is a rant. And the rant goes like this: I would be embarrassed if I had my name on the backs of riders behaving like a bunch of sea pirates off the coast of Somalia in a race. In this weekend's Amashova race a Standard bank bunch joined up with our already massive bunch and shouted, pushed and shoved their way to the front about 6km from the N3. At that stage we were clocking 50 km/h +. One mistake, one nervous wheel, one sudden move and we could all go down, and at that pace, it will be ugly. To whom ever who said okay to having the Standard bank name printed on the backs of these okes, I now associate your brand with words like: inconsiderate, endangering, arrogant, bullies. Good luck in trying to get me to ever use your services
  3. Have you tried a different USB slot? Just asking since some of my USB stuff only work when they're plugged into a certain slot.
  4. Ja. Amashova. Want op die einde van die dag is fietsry die regte wenner.
  5. I got a set of XTs the other day as well. As said above, they are ready out the box and they are so easy to set up you can use a floor pump. No compressors or bombs needed. The rear hub on myne is still golden... touch wood...
  6. LOL, looks like the whole hub just put in an order for Edge 500s. I placed my order yesterday, but I'm having the same issues as BAN007. I have an order number, but can't track Jack Ship. But it seems to be related to stock levels at this point... MAN, I just hope I have my Edge 500 before Shova. It's a long shot, but I'm holding fumbs.
  7. HAHAHA! Frikken American continent inhabitants. That girl is a female K9 of note!
  8. Yes, it does hurt. I fell myself straight into hospital doing exactly this.... I was 8 years old though...
  9. There is a Merida 906 in the for sale section. I have one. Very lekker bikes. If I bought the one in the for sale I would upgrade the wheels to something like Easton ea70 or Mavic Ksyrium elites. That setup can easily carry you into the early starting bunches. At 1.83m I would say you need at least a 56cm or "large" frame. I'm 1.8m tall and on a large (57cm - 59cm center to top)
  10. And ask them when we can expect our R100 deposits back. R180 for that race was very optimistic.
  11. Just some points and tips to ponder. I've read that you should never stretch cold muscles. So according to that statement a good stretch after a ride is worth more/better/safer than a good stretch before. Another thing I read somewhere was "heat before, ice after", which I tried at the race on Sunday. I took a hot water bottle along to the race an applied heat to my knee for about 10minutes before we went to the starting pen. Then had a lekker stretch after the race and iced my knee for about 15 minutes while driving back home. I had no pain during or after the race, but that might also be because of the rest and anti-inflammatories in the days preceding the race.
  12. My ITB flared up badly about 6 weeks ago. It started with me running on the treadmill until I felt it hurt (didn't know what it was then). And then I tried to run through it one day. oooops. 2 weeks or so later it really kicked in after the Dome to Dome. I read up on ITB and started to stretch and roll every day. Stopped running and even cycling for 9 days, but I replaced my lost sessions on the bike with gym sessions. Then did a 40km night ride and BAM, ITB almost made me cry. So last week I went to see a Orthopedic surgeon. We still need to discuss my MRI, but after reading the report I think it's safe to say I have ilio-tibial band friction syndrome. I won't go into my feelings about the cost of a MRI now... Anyway, I still need to go see the doc with regards to treatment. The only thing he told me was that I can cycle but need to stop immediately if I feel pain. Not always easy if you're 20km from home. I kinda stripped my moer about this whole situation. I don't know what to do, stretching and rolling every day isn't working and the time off the bike is making me miserable. So from last week Tuesday I stopped all physical activities and hit a Catoflam morning and night whether the ITB was sore or not. I rode the 50km Campus to Campus race with the GF on Sunday (to me the pace was very easy. AVE HR of 135bpm) and ITB didn't flare up. And today is the first day in about a month that the knee feels good. I'm not a doctor, but my advice would be to get some anti-inflammatories (I used catoflam because I had some left from a previous issue). Take at least 2 a day (morning and night after meals) and stop all exercise for a week. I didn't even climb stairs with the sore leg, I only used the good leg to go up and down stairs. You should probably consult with your doc before using medication for an extended period of time. ITB friction syndrome is a pain! Just want to add that it is very important to find the cause of your ITB issues and correct that too. Do a bike setup and have your cleats checked by reputable okes. Running caused myne, so I won't be running again any time soon.
  13. Surely Gato can PM ASH his email address? No need to meet. It's the electronic age. And ASH can stay anonymous. And no one gets smeared publicly... Everyone wins.
  14. I can just see a gang of latex claded roadies waiting to jump ASH at Mc Donnalds. Armed with chain whips and bicycle pumps!
  15. Ek dink nie dit sal 'n probleem wees nie. Ek het al.
  17. svde, I officially don't like you MAN!!! that Spark 40 is a beaut!
  18. So far my experience with BC has been very good. Their price on the shoes I ordered is much cheaper than any of the stores in PTA and the 105 pedals were R100 less than CWC. They answered my phone call and politely answered all my questions. Payment was promptly confirmed via email too. 10/10 so far.
  19. Prices did come down in the beginning of the year, BUT have you had a look at what a Deore spec bike will set you back now? It's stupid!
  20. I got a set of these 2 month ago. Ran them tubed for a couple of rides and I could only JUST feel the difference between them and my cheapies... Then I went tubeless... WOW absolutely awesome. They go up hills like the bike is motorized plus you have the added benefit of lower tyre pressures providing more grip... and as said above you can fit tyres with a floor pump, no need for compressors or bombs.
  21. Personally like Maxxis crossmark rear and Monorail up front.
  22. I do agree that the place where you can save the biggest amount of grams is your own body, BUT saving 300g on the frame/calipers/shifters/saddles/posts/stems of a bike and saving 300g on the outer edge of your wheels are 2 worlds apart.
  23. eish, I'm not being filled with excitement by this topic... I bought my XTs from CRC about 2 months ago. Haven't been out on the MTB much though because of dodging colds and training for road races. I'd say my XTs have about 150km on them now...
  24. 300g off rotational mass will make a BIG difference. Luke, remember that the 500ml(or grams) of pee-pee in you bladder is already moving, but the weight on the outside of the wheel is "amplified" by the force of torque (for a lack of better term). You drive you rear wheel from it's center but the power is put on the ground a long way from the center of your wheel. Think about it like this: Stand with your arm stretched out in front of you, palm facing up, for 3 hours. Now, where would you want the weight of your pee-pee? In your hand or in you bladder?
  25. It would be interesting to see what JB has to say, but my money is on the solvent getting to the grease. But even then I'd be a little surprised that the bearings went within 120km...
