  1. I agree. Confidence is super important. So stay away from clipless pedals until she can make a skid mark longer than yours... lol, it all just went south...
  2. Guys will disagree with me, but my girlfriend won't... Have a look at woman specific geometries. Woman spec bikes put the rider in a slightly more upright position which to a girl starting out, will be much more comfy than a more aggressive geometry. My girlfriend has a GT Avalanche 2 woman spec. The other thing you can try and do is to get to a "Ride before you buy" and have her try out the bikes there. It'll give you a very clear indication of what suits the missus.
  3. Sorry if I didn't say hi WW. My first excuse is, I'm an introvert, so it's not my fault I stick to my own thoughts and excuse number 2 is basically the same as the topic of this thread; I did try to give a word of encouragement here or make a comment there but the only sounds that came out of F bunch was "Watchit!, oohh!, WOW!" when dodging water bottles or red & white straw bails. But those are just excuses, so next time I'll be the oke saying "howsit" to everyone in the starting pen BTW, you didn't have a BIG plaster on your left leg, did you?
  4. So since there are about 20 threads about what went wrong at the 94.7, lets have a 1 page thread about what went right, who do you remember doing something special. 1. The guy in F group that kept his line straight through that dropped water bottle on the M1; Good on you mate. You handled yourself like a champ. 2. The Indian lady (think she was F group too). You're an inspiration. Such a strong rider. 3. The guy on the N14 that set the pace on the climbs (actually 3 guys in black kit with lumo green and orange detailing)... Dude, respect. 4. The gentleman that tjooned the guys slip streaming behind his fellow female rider to make a turn up front; good on you! So lets keep the thread about the positives and not mention Mr "I have to hit every apex" in the Livestrong kit.
  5. Don't let the USA find out about the N14... Weapon of mass destruction! activated on 21 November 2010
  6. Imagen the chaos at number collection!!!
  7. 16306 results... wonder how many rode without a chip.?.?
  8. Weird. very weird.
  9. I also have the creaking seat post issue. I have my post at max hight and blame it on that...
  10. I'm a big fan of the Finish line Green chain lube, but doesn't it "gunk-up" in this application?
  11. A bit of a revival, but it seems the search function does work and I thought my question would fit in here nicely. Where can I buy 10W mineral oil? I'd like to get the stuff Mavic recommends.
  12. Interesting info. Keep it coming Stewie.
  13. Intervals. Trying to keep cadence at 100rpm. 2mins high resistance, 3mins rest at lower resistance. Done to the sounds of Linkin Park - Reanimate/ Disturbed - 10 000 fists... I think some Prodigy - The Fat of the Land, might be on the playlist for next time... I can do about 70mins before brain numbness makes me fall off the bike.
  14. DHL had some R80 clearing fee... So you can count on Customs/VAT/Clearing to be +-R360
  15. Bikeinn -> R2360 all included(what I paid to have the unit in hand) CRC -> +- R2600 all included (guesstimate) Eazy GIS -> R2899 (can't remember if that included shipping) CycleLab -> 2899 (donno about shipping and heard their communication is on par with the Telkom service department standard)
  16. have a look at www.bikeinn.com they were cheaper than CRC the other day(when I ordered myne) and TAX came to about R360(so R2360 Edge 500 bundle + shipping + Tax) if I remember correctly...
  17. Cassie, your training schedule looks good. 4 days a week will get you in plenty good shape. I can however suggest that you "shape" what you're currently doing. When on the trainer, do speed intervals on Tue and power intervals on Thu. Then ride like you stole something on Saturday and slow to a crawl on Sunday. You'll benefit much more by structuring your current schedule than to just go full out every time. A slow ride might seem pointless but it grants you time to take in your surroundings and to enjoy some fresh air on the MTB, plus they don't call them recovery rides for nothing Oh and long slow rides will drop more weight than hard short efforts.
  18. More or less, yes. BUT... Endomondo chows battery life like a bugger(I can log about 4 hours with my fully charged Samsung). and a Garmin adds HR functionality and some other interesting stats too.
  19. I've actually stopped using saddle bags because of MTBing. Stoopid things kept on either loosing or wrecking my stuffs. SaddlebagS broke my cell phone screen, vibrated holes into 3 tubes, wrecked my first multi tool which it then slowly lost on the Groenkloof trails and then promptly lost my brand new Pedro's multitool. On the road I carry the following in my jersey pockets: 2 x tubes 2 x tirelever 2 x bomb + 1 x dispenser 1 x medicalaid card 1 x note of monetary value 1 x cellphone 1 x Jungle oats bar. then in winter even the arm warmers end up in there... On the mtb I use a Camelback and carry the above plus puncture repair kit and a multitool.
  20. There are so many variables in one's race time, I've almost given up on setting targets, but I guess I'm aiming at 02h55m from F
  21. by letting things go, we allow them to continue. We let our fellow riders ride abreast, we don't reprimand them for skipping red robots or for riding like they own the roads. Somehow we can justify riding dangerously and we're proud of putting our aspirations before the safety of others. This thread reminds my that cyclists are their own worst enemy. I'm off to enjoy the rest of my windy holiday by the sea.
  22. If this rant gets the Standard Bank guys to be a little more considered and to be ambassadors for their brand next time around it would have served a purpose. If you're a big tree, don't go looking for big wind.
  23. Look, my issue is with HOW they passed us, not with BECAUSE they passed us. Catching a faster wheel is part of the game. Okes catch my wheel all the time If you approach a dangerous situation, does it make sense to do so smooth, polite and safe? or do you just go in like a bull in a china shop? Flex, where were your marshals when you were approaching the N3?
  24. I was in the left lane and I only stuck with my bunch. And if you'r really such a big guy, why could a B bunch hang on to your wheel?
  25. Were we racing for money or fame or even a case of beer? No. My point is that there was NOTHING to gain by behaving that way. Only a very high risk that someone was going to get hurt.
