  1. Till next year...
  2. Not an easy decision so close to race day - postponement would probably be sensible option, depending on race calendar. We'll see.
  3. Lots of roads on the race route closed / washed away, including Wynandsrivier. Looking at the damage on Meiringspoort, one can only imagine what it is on gravel roads.
  4. Extended weather forecast predicts chilly sunshine days😁, just like we have in Gauteng at this stage. Some rain predicted for the Tuesday, but the damage has been done. 3 years ago was a real s...t show - mudguards did help a lot though. And a sense of humour...which I lost in that mielie field after CP1.
  5. Agreed - my pov is that there should be a mandatory sentence of 5 years before anything else for failure to stop and remain at accident. Make it even more if someone was killed. As a point of interest, can the steps of the "hit and runner" be retraced through bank transactions, cctv, cellphone movements, etc. to establish whether he was at pubs, clubs, etc. One way or the other, all of these F$^*& get away with murder.
  6. Also a positive experience on my side. Unit died (deep sleep) over the weekend, Unsuccessfully tried all Google remedies without any luck. Being in Pretoria, decided to do a quick lunchtime trip to Rosebank on Monday to drop of unit which was still under warranty (540 Solar less than 2 years old). Received NIL invoice on Tuesday and when I came home on Wednesday afternoon the replacement unit had been delivered. Can't fault that.

    timing chips

Hi, I don't think any of them work anymore (speaking under correction, but from my experience) There are a lot more timing companies in play and all have their own little number board that is either mounted on seat post (road mostly) and handlebar mtb). Some you only get on raceday while for others I bought the number and use it for those races, i.e. trailseeker and 947. Cheers
  8. On the side, my daughter ordered 2 LP's earlier this year from the US of A, and in both cases they came through SAPO without significant delays. She tracked them through the source which meant that she knew when they arrived (never got a notification from SAPO). We don't have many functioning Post Offices left, but the one at Menlyn was OK.
  9. If you have a towbar, I would suggest that you rather get a platform rack, just a lot less hassle overall. (coming from someone that has the 2 bike towbar hanging rack as well as 4 bike hanging rack for hatchback).
  10. Haven't had any issues with ANT+ for last 5 years. Similar setup, after the ride I delete the Garmin one from Strava. (stats on Garmin are a bit messed up though).
  11. Well done...obviously you need to go back for number 5!😁
  12. I did 156 in 2023 - total elevation was 688m - mostly ok roads, but there was some sandy patches and proper corrugations as well, especially on the section to Dikhololo. (Just a ps, I see start is later, but with a 7:00 start the temperature dropped to -2.7 and a bit colder - that was slightly unexpected). First part reasonably flat, from 50 to 100 2 smallish bumps and and from 100 onwards just a steady drag to end. Maybe someone can give current condition of canal roads - was there in March after the rains and some sections were eroded. Did 92 km last year - only 400m elevation. Later start, nicer temperatures. Both were lekker days out with some cold beers afterwards at the small airport going down well.
  13. About a year ago (May '24) I had the following options when my 520 malfunctioned: Edge 530 @ R4016 Edge 540 @ R5355 Edge 540 Solar @ R 6025 These are Ex Vat prices - went for the solar and am satisfied.
  14. Can a minimum sentence (let's say 5 years) be introduced for leaving the scene of an accident (except in an ambulance). before police, etc are on the scene? So "Hit and Run" start with minimum and then the rest gets added on... Also investigate drivers actions prior to accident with most likely expenses incurred at a bar / pub / club (CCTV / bank transaction, etc.)
  15. Here's the link for Lake Shoes - very happy with mine. https://gravelandtour.co.za/product-category/clothing/shoes/
  16. Hi, Good luck with CL (just go in with low expectations). Otherwise try info@silverbacklab.com You might get lucky with a warranty claim, but from my prior experience (where the part was older than 2 years), it wasn't one. Sido's have not been produced for may years.
  17. Hi Health App (assuming Samsung) and Garmin. Discovery no longer acknowledges Strava. Cheers
  18. Denice Drew?
  19. I haven't done one in a while, but there used to be some 200km Audax routes out that way - some started at Circus, Hotel Lido and went towards Heidelberg / Nigel / Devon / Balfour. Not sure about road conditions these days...did see in my ride descriptions that there sometimes always is wind!
  20. Hi I use Feathertec (Johan) 062 787 2996 - Moreleta Park
  21. Hi Apart from getting trainer specific bike, did you manage to resolve this. I also use a 9 speed and now have a spacer, but the 3 small cogs are still a proper nuisance and sound horrible. I use the same bike on the road, so do not want to make many changes on derailleur setup. Thx
  22. Concur, it was a good day for riding your bike...forgot how nasty some of those hills are. Waterpoints and organisation was good as ever. Will probably be back for another one.
  23. In lockdown there was a virtual 36One...😁fair number of participants as well. Also a virtual Attakwas which was just brutal.
  24. The coffee break on Zwift is nice for bottle refill, quick break and you stay with the group i.s.o. pedalling away on your own again (riding with robopacers).
