  1. The Hitman's Bodyguard. 8/10 Salma Hayek is absolutely hilarious.
  2. I haven't completely given up on the series. I just found myself spending more time browsing on my phone than actually watching the show, which to me is a good indication that I'm becoming bored and need to take a break from it. While young Bruce shows a lot of potential, the focus is on Gordon more than anything else which means is a cop show, even though it's in a DC universe. Maybe I'll continue again some time in the future, if there is enough progression and he actually starts gaining some skills. For now, though, it's still on hold for me.
  3. I got a bit bored with it halfway during the last season and stopped watching it. I enjoyed the first few seasons, still think it's an interesting take and an excellent cast, but it just doesn't feel like it's going anywhere.
  4. Nice article in the Irish Times about the match: https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/other-sports/floyd-mayweather-outclasses-conor-mcgregor-with-10th-round-tko-1.3199672 "Floyd Mayweather outclasses Conor McGregor with 10th round TKO. Irishman struggles to lay a glove on 40-year-old in a Vegas boxing masterclass."
  5. On another note: The true winner of the fight that night!
  6. This is just silly, though. And one of the reasons I can't stand McGregor's fans (nor can I stand Mcgregor or Mayweather, but I've already stated that) is exactly this kind of trash talk and backwards reasoning. There is absolutely no reason Mayweather would ever enter a UFC fight, nor did he ever evince any desire to do so. McGregor was the one with the big mouth who claimed being a UFC champ qualified him to challenge the boxing champ. Mayweather has now demonstrated conclusively that there is a vast difference between the two sports, but instead of his fans accepting this and moving on, they are now posting these kinds of messages. Bah, humbug. Edit. And in my opinion the fight was over in the 7th round, anyway. McGregor stayed standing until the 10th, true, but he stopped being a threat long before that.
  7. Ha, this made me laugh:
  8. Friends of mine used to have a band based in Pretoria before they all went their separate ways. Still love this song, written about one guy (Chris) who rode all the way from Pretoria to Spain, along the west coast of Africa, on his bike, a BMW R1100 GS.
  9. Wait, there's a challenge involving Margot Robbie?!
  10. Started reading the Traveler's Gate trilogy by Will Wight and absolutely loving it. Fantasy with lots of action and humour. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2101296334?book_show_action=false
  11. The Defenders (2017) Watched all 8 episodes last night and came away feeling... underwhelmed. I liked the slow build-up; the fact that each character got some time to him and herself was actually a nice touch. And the story for the first six episodes was fine - a bit predictable, but fine. But something felt off with the last two. Perhaps it was just too much of a build-up, perhaps I expected too much, but I felt let-down and when I finished watching I sat there thinking: Meh. I won't go into details yet or discuss specifics, not until after the weekend, so as not to spoil it for people who are still going to watch it. I'll just say the way I feel now I score it 6/10, even though I really liked the first six episodes.
  12. I don't even care if this movie will be good or not: I'm going to watch it, and I'm going to ENJOY it.
  13. Watched two great comedies: Batman and Harley Quinn (2017) and Baywatch (2017). Batman and Harley Quinn was the most insanely funny Batman movie I've ever seen, and that includes Lego Batman. When it started it reminded me of the old Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers, and after about half an hour I realised this movie was DEFINITELY not aimed at children. Lots of adult humour and great homage to the 60's Batman starring Adam West. 7/10 for great comedy, though the art was a bit disappointing. Baywatch is ridiculous, stupid, silly and laugh-out-loud funny. The great thing is nobody in the movie takes themselves seriously and neither should you. They make fun of everything, even the original TV series but they do so with no malice and always tongue-in-cheek. Plus - lots of hot bodies in skimpy swimsuits. Aaaah, and the slow motion running... 11/10 for comedy, though overall a 7/10 since besides humour there's not much of a story.
  14. Both of them are very high on my list of all-time favourite fantasy authors. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  15. Now THERE'S a fantasy writer whose books could never be described as dull or overloaded with descriptions. Every year or so I still like to take down one of my tattered copies of Legend, Waylander or White Wolf and spend an afternoon with an old friend. And yes, I can definitely see Momoa as Druss - especially when you look at him in this photo and compare him with his bodyguards.
  16. I did read Tolkien when I was in high school, but have since discovered so many fantasy authors I enjoy more. Did think of reading the trilogy again a few years ago, but after a few pages decided I'm old enough now to know what I like and what I don't. Confession: I just remembered that I also couldn't stand the Harry Potter books. I borrowed the first three after they came out from a friend and after I read them I felt like a kid who had eaten three giant bags of candy. Was so sick of Harry Potter that I never bothered to watch the movies when they came out (though I have seen the first one and bits and pieces of the rest since then). Blasphemy, I know. 17. I have no quarrel with your disagreement. Nor is it my intention to try and persuade you. To put it in context, I feel exactly the same about Tolkien: Fantastic world-builder, boring writer. Tastes differ, as I have long ago accepted. Another example is the highly-rated Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Erik Larsen. Have tried twice to read it and never got past the first couple of chapters. Nowadays, there are so many fantasy writers that I DO enjoy that I do not begrudge Georgie all his fame and fortune. The news that David Tennant has been cast in the adaption of Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, for instance, has been cause for great celebration! Now, there are a couple of fantasy authors whose works I simply cannot get enough of. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

  19. Not the only. Tried to read one of Georgie Porgie's books once and gave up in flat despair. He might be a good world-builder but I found him a deadly dull writer. Therefore I had no interest in watching the series when it started and based on the descriptions I've glanced I doubt I'd find it to my taste, even though I'm a huge fantasy fan. If I had any fascination with evil people being cruel to one another for money or power I'd start following politicians on Twitter. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  20. I love Salma Hayek. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  21. Depends on the writing and the cast. Personally I think David Tennant was absolutely brilliant and had some of the best-written episodes. I've never been as fond of any of the other Doctors, though they all have their fans, and quite frankly the writing in the recent seasons has been appalling. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
  22. I'm just waiting for Friday: The Defenders!
  23. No. I've heard great things, but I detest going to the theater so I'll wait patiently until I can watch it at home.
  24. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017) 8/10. If you liked the first one you will like the sequel. Gunn does what he does and he does it well. Lots of fun and jokes for the casual viewer as well as the comic geek, a soundtrack that delights and some pretty epic action sequences.
