    They don't keep you cool at all - but in that heat it's a no brainer for me, hydration must come first. Maybe different the faster you are but if it's between 5 and 8 hours in the heat, the USWE is essential equipment.

    Dunno... Reading the stories about the rave village I'm leaning towards GINT (glad I'm not there). Mamils are soft creatures. We can do anything so long as there's a comfy spot, an ice cold something and lots of delicious food.

    I have never once managed to ride all the way up that rhino climb - and when I choose to take it on it's the worst part of the ride - as you say, they still had massive hills ahead. I really don't know if I have an epic in me .... not that there's sponsors lining up of course.

    Ja - it really is a pity that devilliers cycling doesn't do a better job with the marketing and positioning of T du C. Spoiling the ship for a h'pennyworth of tar - communication, marketing, positioning of the event in front of a target audience just so poor. Such potential to attract all the upcountry and international visitors coming to do the CTCT ... As chief marketing officer I've gone from not entering to making it the main focus of training through winter after the Tankwa Grit and 36one -

    All I'm saying is that if @ChrisFcame past me as I heaved my corpse over the top of Smits with the tail of the group already halfway down the drag, and offered me a wheel going at 50kmph I would not have said "no, I'll never live it down on bikehub and my conscience won't let me". I would have said "yes please and thank you" and maxed the engine to keep up and I might have come a shade closer to my sub3. I would also have repressed the memory thereby expunging any guilt and enjoyed my achievement.

    What I want to know is where were all these low seeded elites and unrestricted ebikes and other ne'er-do-wells when I needed a tow past Cape Point to Misty cliffs? - even a tandem would have been lekker. Nothing, ... nada .... just me and skinny 1B rider who couldn't do a turn and wouldn't have offered much of a draft he had been able to.

    More and more everyday and quite a few are in charge of countries and making massive geopolitical and economic decisions that affect us all --- there I knew it, e-bikers will bring about the end of the world.

    Some of the newer road and gravel ebikes have higher limits - I think the trek domane ebike version gets assist right up to 45kmph - which is bonkers - probably great fun but bonkers nevertheless.

    You won't be sorry - but then I am their chief marketing officer... seriously though, stage racing is a blast - The repeat customer discount is open until tomorrow and I still haven't completely killed the idea of doing my fourth one in a row... I'm self employed though and the week away from work is expensive and the boss imposes a punishing schedule to make up for the lost time.

    Shelled out the back of 1c on Smits, at which point I knew the sub 3 was out of reach. If ever there was a day for it, it was today but... 3.06, a PR by 2 minutes. If you'd told me I'd be disappointed with that time 10 years ago when I did my first one I would have laughed in your face and called you deluded.
