  1. Sorry to hear it @peepeekaitjie-- chirp intended as old man banter. She died young? The upside is of course that I'm probably not your toppie!!
  2. 29, disc, and no guns. .... And who you calling toppie young man? Unless.... Wait a moment ... Where was your mom circa 1989/90?
  3. Ja it's hectic - didn't know you'd had 2 attacks!! That's horrible man!
  4. Yes exactly - there must be an integrated non-motorized transport plan that deprioritizes motor vehicles in favour of human powered vehicles and public transport. It's a much bigger issue that how hard it is to get to to Camps bay so I can time time trial up to Llandudno.
  5. We can't let it stop us - maybe not riding solo to the mast for a while is a good idea but I still intend coming down the snakes and chickening out of the DH lines on a regular basis
  6. That's why I have a minor household account linked to the phone - he'll get something for his efforts but giving him access to my business account, personal account, bond etcetera via my main bank's app isn't going to happen. And if he decides he has to shoot me because he's getting a smaller haul than he might have had, then he was probably going to shoot me anyway.
  7. I don't care about my phone at all - it's having to put my thumbprint on my banking app and make transfers from my various accounts all linked to one device to someone who has a gun at my head.
  8. Pulled the trigger on an el cheapo smartphone. I have a discovery credit card i use to run household expenses and I've loaded that on it so I have something to give these assholes. My main banking app I will leave at home. This stuff is only going to get worse and worse in the coming years unfortunately. I wonder what insurance would say to a claim of this nature?
  9. Surely if someone has a bank account to receive instant EFTs that account is associated with a confirmed Identity document or passport and therefore easily traceable?
  10. No it isn't but politically it's important to win the fight I think. Also, I'd rather have the lane there than not have it even if only half of drivers respect it.
  11. I'm just reposting what was circulated to me. Not in charge of text of petition or any images
  12. This in the week where that young rider killed by being doored in Seapoint. These jokers talk about NMT but time and time again actions belie their k@kpraat.
  13. WhatsApp message as received Hi all, the petition is up -- please sign and share widely: *SIGN OUR PETITION FOR SAFE CYCLING LANES* The Woodstock Residents’ Association has started this petition due to the recent process of resurfacing the tarmac on Albert Rd. It turns out the City is not upgrading the cycle lane as we originally thought, but downgrading it -- *more parking* is being introduced and the *painted cycle lane is being narrowed to 1m or less* -- which is strictly against NMT guidelines for a road like Albert (needs to be 1.5m wide). Plus the City has not engaged with the public around despite the big and dangerous changes made to the cycling lane going outbound. We just had a big NMT proposal for Woodstock open for comment which didn't mention the Albert Road changes at all! Please share and engage others. We will email this petition to the city! *We can still overturn this!* https://www.change.org/p/don-t-introduce-death-traps-for-cyclists
  14. Yes horrific for all involved However it is not a freak accident at all. It is commonplace and one of the hazards we know we face as riders. What is unusual about it is that this poor young man was killed. There are countless others lucky enough to walk away with the standard collarbone and shoulder injuries. Totally avoidable by simply opening the car door with the hand furthest away from the door as per "Dutch door".
  15. 1. Wash hands often - have a hand sanitizer close by - like the pandemic 2. Wear N95 mask - DO NOT KISS OR HANDLE CHILD (not practical or emotionally viable) 3. Gargle with salt water and rinse nasal passages and sinuses with saline solution 4. Take Vitamin C and Echinacae for the placebo effect 5. Keep a bucket of dettol in the car and cold immersion for child whenever collecting it from playdates / nursery school (Not legal, may involve provincial welfare department) 6. Wait 20 years for it to leave home Edit - Only 1, 2 and 3 will be effective and as noted - 2 will cause emotional damage and delay 6
  16. I cannot imagine the grief of losing a child so young. https://www.dutchreach.org/
  17. It's forerunner - not foreskin .... and when they say edge it's not a verb ---
  18. Ja i think you got away light there
  19. Oh ja .. forgot about that ... I am in for the 200 there but that's another gravel grind
  20. When I started riding in about 2015 there were a lot of local western cape one day MTB cross country events around. The trail seekers were mostly in Western Cape, and there were lots of other smaller 45 to 70km long XC style events ... I remember lining up in Philadelphia, Napier, stellies, .... Most of these seem to have disappeared? Have they? My dance card is empty until transbaviaans....
  21. Aha that was you headed up the road and then we chatted at the end @BuffsVintageBikes... Was a lekker day out... That little batch cooperated ok for a bit, better than I've seen in C group at the PPA funrides.
  22. Ha ha ... Any softer at my weight and they get a bit squirmy in the turns.
  23. 22 front and 27 rear
