    Munga 2025

My ride report.... I'm back for my second in 2026. https://mamil.co.za/the-munga-2024-ride-report/ I concur with @gemmerbal.... best thing I ever did on a bike. Munga mense is lekker.
  2. Gorgeous --- Mamils can't turn 38s though
  3. Money laundering?
  4. The map must be what they call topo-active I think. Factory reset would be the my course of action and if that doesn't work, uninstall and reinistall all maps.
  5. It's a heavy bike but at this stage it won't disadvantage your enjoyment and probably necessary to support yoir weight. It's a stepping stone to get your wheels turning and once you start drippinng off the kg (which you almost definitely will if you ride 3 or 4 times a week), you can upgrade. Also, please do seriously consider having a checkup with a gp before you start. Most of us do that and particularly after one or 2 forum members who are no longer with us shared their stories here. Interestingly what is emerging from the more.scientific investigation of what makes a bike fastnis that weight of tje bike has been seriously over emohasised for almost all but elite riders. The biggest impact is aerodynamics and the least aerodynamic thing on the bike is the rider. As noted, startmon flat routes. Buffalo for the win for the first 3 to 6 months and the a robust mtb and after that a carbon racing machine.
  6. This is a very very bad sign. What a ghastly experience.
  7. I hadn't thought of the buffalo bikes. That's a great suggestion. As for the risk of falling, this is true for all of us. Most of us have nuts and bolts in one or more bones ... At @Mapsito s weight its probably a bigger risk but it might be worth it for the excitement and joy of the first rides and falling in love with the sport.
  8. Hi Mapsito, Welcome to the bike hub. Starting an exercise journey is a big step for most people and from the weight and height stats you provide I imagine that this step is a significant one for you too. You don't specifically state that weight loss is a goal but many of us do come to this sport for that purpose. I am assuming this is the case for you too. What joemerida says is true - a total system mass of 170 plus kg is outside the spec of any bike I've seen. I am not an expert but I think the biggest issue might be wheel strength. So basically getting on most bikes, with the possible exception of a titanium framed bike, is not really going to work for you at this stage. On the up side, cycling is a great sport for us heavier okes because it doesn't stress knees and other joints as much a higher impact activities like walking and running. That having been said, it might be worth starting with some brisk walking 3 times a week for 20 minutes at a time just to begin the process of burning more calories and getting your cardio vascular system a little more tuned. It may also be worth getting a GP's go ahead before starting - you don't give your age but at your body mass index (BMI), stressing the heart with an exercise programme is a risk factor. I would say once you hit the 140kg mark, the bicycle would become a more viable form of exercise. If you have access to a gym, a more robust stationery bike might also be a good way to get the legs spinning. Every strength - there are lots of people here who have used the bicycle to transform their bodies and once the bike bug bites, you're generally hooked for life
  9. Thanks man... I've got some plans ja...
  10. I'm mucking about with tech and video and riding on YouTube. Indifference, Comments and critique (if well intended and useful) welcome.

    Bike Hub Pay

Just concluded my first bijehub pay transaction - I was the buyer, seller in another city. Factored half the BHP fee into my offer and made a fair offer, perhaps slightly high to the seller - he accepted. Offer made on Sunday, payment approved 5 minutes ago (Thursday morning). Ill do it again
  12. I've also walked a mate out of there. Patrick met us at the top and drove us down. Garmin inreach is a potential life saver and worth every penny for the peace of mind that no matter where you are, emergency services and loved ones will receive exact location with one button press.
  13. Get one... opens a world of training and data.
  14. In it's own clownish way this little clip exposes the dark and f#43d up underbelly of social media - "creators" make clips about contentious issues (lots of motorists want cyclists to get a p#@sklap, lots of cyclists are outraged by the treatment we get from motorists), manufacture a scene in the hopes that it will go "viral" and propagate like this one did here in the interests of getting a slice of the advertising pie. The platform controls the tech and rakes in the bucks. Then the society wrestles with the contentious issue in a now further polarised and more emotive manner than before. Map this onto more complex and significant social issues like a coup in Myanmar or the Capitol hill riots in Washington and .... thanks tech bros. Move fast and break things indeed. And that little model becomes more complex when the "creator", instead of being motivated solely by cash, is actually an AI informed bot motivated by a specific political agenda or a hired gin with instructions to amplify a particular issue. And we also haven't opened the Cambridge Analitica box. Meanwhile the nerds controlling all of these platforms co-opt freedom of speech arguments to legitimate their malignant influence on every aspect of non-virtual life while dealing with budgets larger than small nations. /rantoff
  15. Instagram turns brains into porridge.
  16. Not lekker but ... on the other hand, sounds like a compliment
  17. Someone needs to tell Dricus C that Munga isn't a race - cos 47 hours and change isn't exactly bikepacking
  18. Firmware update gave the core auto-calibration last year. Squishy feet would be nice too
  19. I own a core that has not skipped a beat since 2020 and is ridden at least 3 times a week quite hard - lots of zwift races and structured training. Never owned the higher end models but hard to imagine what they might add. Interested to hear motivations for the top end models
  20. Can't even imagine how brutal that's going to be. Proper adventure
  21. One day when I'm big
  22. Yassus that's a cr@p one. Sorry.for the loss. I Always sleep with the bike in guest house rooms when away. Disheartening to hear this happened.
  23. I made a vlog of this year's 36one https://youtu.be/C374aObEBvk?si=j9DlBnqu-Lk2YKDV
