  1. I'm wandering if there isn't a bit of a toss up between a bigger frame vs bigger wheels and which can be lighter. My logic here is that with smaller wheels you would need more frame to get the same geometry and stuff and thus maybe that is heavier than having a bigger wheel and smaller frame... Another point to consider is that of high speed cornering... I don't know which will be better in terms of road conditions... Very interesting post and such a pity that people are taking it to be about the mountain bikes, tut tut.
  2. I read an interesting article that said that because O2 was the first thing to escape all the time, you eventually have nearly only N2 in your tires anyway if you keep on topping them up. This is barring punctures of course. Also by only running nitrogen there is less intermolecular friction and thus the tires will stay cooler easier and then the pressure won't change as much as @Paulst12 said. Personally I think the whole thing is a load of rubbish but it you're at the top of your game and you're looking for more things to do then sure, go for it.
  3. Scratch it?? Seriously though I had what sounds like a similar thing and it just went away after a while... Was annoying though.
  4. Everybody post reasons to be positive: Feel like I'm getting fit again! Whoop Whoop!
  5. Hey. UP builds their Baja car using this stuff, so will ask them tomorrow. You do know that some of the profiles need to be heated before you can weld them and there are special courses and stuff you have to do to be able to weld them... it also can only be welded to itself as far as I know. I guess what I'm saying is good luck and would love to see the results.
  6. My advice would be to start with something cheap so that those little oopsies(Especially if you're working with carbon) don't cost so much. Other than that google has all the advice you need and more. Tools also end up costing a bit and it really does take a couple of trips to the bike shop for those stupid little bolts/nuts/spacers. It is loads of fun though. Cheers
  7. What a fitting name for the bike. It only needs to be green and I'd bid a tenner.
  8. Agree on the cost factor. If you compare it to say a running race you can draw a ton of students and other "Cheap" people whereas as cycling race, especially mtb is out of our league. The question of why they are so expensive has never properly been explained to me though- you don't even have to close roads or give people coke every 3km...
  9. Firstly, mine aren't the racer ones, secondly I do realize that they say dry on them and obviously don't expect them to do well in the wet. The fact that they don't last long and the sidewall tore is inexcusable to be, especially the torn sidewall. If it is a UST tyre the sidewall should last. I know you didn't ask for my opinion but I thought i'd do a general service and warn some people... plus the hub is the perfect place to express your opinion and get taken out for it, even when it is right....
  10. I don't see why people get a fright, if you're riding slowly, somebody is going to come speeding past you at some point, live with it. I did a very quick lap at groennies on sun and waited for there to be a gap to pass, or made a little detour to pass and then people moan and shout that I give them a fright? wtf? the other day i was on the road and somebody swore at me cause they walked into the road without looking and i just dodged them but it was tight and now it's my fault? tut tut.
  11. Hi Just broke the ratchet mechanism (The thing that tightens the strap with a click click) on my Montana XT Louis Garneau shoes. Anybody know where I can get a new one or possible a generic one? Cheers
  12. I'm going to recommend that nobody every buys these tyres. They don't last long, the sidewall tears really easily and they are as slippery as all hell in the wet, or even if it looks a bit overcast. I think that nearly covers my review, any questions are welcome but the answer might be slightly biased, i am just warning you.
  13. I like my suunto, plus i don't have to charge it. Have the bike and foot pod which is very accurate. Also nice and small...
  14. So this bid or buy ad on the side is really annoying and it has a really cool picture (something to do with gold and not the lady at all) and then you click through and there aren't anymore. I suppose that is a good as campaign then?
  15. Is this legal? I mean the post not the stupid lube...

    sani pass

I heard that with all the rain and stuff in Jan that the road has nearly completely washed away, some guys had to leave their 4x4 on the pass and hike out. My cousin said he just managed on his motorbike. Don't know if it is fixed yet though.

  20. Ok, so give the tech a bit of time to mature then the prices of the 29ers will drop, hence giving you the choice at the shop between 26 and 29 and most people will go with 29 since you getting more for the same price, then the manufacturers will stop making 26 components etc and then the prices will drop... Hypothetically speaking of course... I'm not saying that the 26 will die out, but most people ride to enjoy it and it sounds like the 29 is the one to do that on? Who said something about giving bikes away to a good home? My bikes sleep on the couch, I'm just saying....
  21. Ok, so normally in life when there is a newer better thing out there(29er), the old thing (26er) loses a lot of value and you can pick one up for a bargain. The question is, are people just keeping their 26ers and buying a 29er too or are they trying to sell their 26ers for too much? This debate could very easily descend into anarchy because i said that 29er are taking over, but that I feel is just a fact. Anyways, point being, I'm still young and poor, when will i get a really lekker 26er bike for nowhere near it's original value?
  22. I recon there should be a race like this though- it would be truly amazing, cross discipline between road and mountain, imagine. I imagine something like the Dakar Rally, but tougher. Imagine the likes of Stander and Contador battling it out together- would be super cool.
  23. Glad tumbleweed appreciates my sense of humour. Caad4- what's wrong with Parys?
  24. This is amazing news! More Info
  25. Don't know if everybody has seen these, but take a good close look at the pattern... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25149 Certainly stopped my thoughts....
