  1. Plugged into this inverter trolley???
  2. Not sure if a different route is always the answer, the comrades has been the same forever, there is a lot of people that test themselves on the same route/distance and use it as a measure of fitness. I think the cost of travel and accommodation is 99% the massive issue here. For out of towners the cost of the event is a small percentage of the total cost of the event. Also, while I envy you and your ability to ride that route often, although technically not all of it, and I look forward to my planned move to the cape, please NEVER discount the absolute privilege that you have of being able to do that, and that most cyclists in the rest of the country come just to ride that route.
  3. Yerrr, that is the most important question, stock was such an issue last year, and beginning this year, and probably still is. My wife waited 4 months for her Top Fuel 7 and I waited 7 months for mine. Not easy being a bike buyer at the moment.
  4. ^^^^^^^^^ This reply should be the standard to anyone who comes on to a thread about a specific event and states they aren't going to enter the race because of whatever justification they find themselves employing at that particular time.
  5. Especially when you have power and your neighbour doesn't, I think people sometimes get lost in the cash payback period of these systems, and forgets about taking into account the payback you experience when your street is in darkness and you aren't. Or when the Bokke are playing, and you can watch without worrying about watching the 2nd half on your phone. Or having to tell your 2 year old that he can't do something cause it's loadshedding. All of that should also be factored into your calculation. If you are going into just to save money in the long run then fine, but if even 1% of your motivation is to be independent of Eskom and it's loadshedding, then there are other factors to take into account.
  6. The perks of having fewer rides to list. . . First wet one was this year? haha Have heard war stories of the ou kaapse detour as well as the Boyes drive detour as well.
  7. 2016 was fantastic as I remember it, I started cycling 4 weeks before the race and I SUFFERED the whole way, but I am told the the weather was good. 2017 was the windy/protests/fire cancelled one. 2018 Was good weather 2019 Was terrible weather. 2020 Was fantastic, almost as good as the weather in 2021, except for the late starters/finishers who had some wind and rain. 2021 Glorious day on the bike 2022 enough said, broke my even years are good weather years theory.
  8. Just going to Racetecs website I have the following: Emperors Palace Classic(assuming not full road closure) R490 Die Groot Trap (not sure about road closure) R490 Montecasino Classic (Assuming not full road closure) R490 Only the N3TC Meals on Wheels race comes to R300 So not sure where almost all comes from, or should we only look at the 1 out of 4?
  9. Yeah, I understand for the locals, the lucky buggers that they are, that the price increase is a moaning point, being most if not all of their costs (excluding any of that yummy looking Ciovita kit they have this year). For us upcountry folk, this is such a tiny, insignificant part of our costs that it doesn't even make a dent. Taking into account our fuel from the Free State, accommodation, and then all the meals (which we have now taken to self-catering accommodation to help reduce), whether we pay R650 for the entry or R750 doesn't make a difference, that's barely even a meal for one person at a restaurant. We make a week out of the trip and it makes it worth it in the end.
  10. Maths behind this please? Or are we just grossly exaggerating for effect? Can we compare apples to apples please? 100% road closure costs or nothing, assuming here that 100% road closure adds a significant portion to the costs involved.
  11. To be fair, it's not as if the CTCT is an outlier in terms of pricing. The Amashova is R750 this year as well, so more expensive then the CTCT was for this year. Hate to think what it will be next year. And remember that they have some goodwill to fix, after changing the route after the entries closed last year to a Durban out and back instead of PMB to Durbs. So basically another Tour Durban. Most other races that aren't road closure are touching the R500, although keeping it at R490 for the psychological affects of breaching the R500 barrier. With the exception of your church bazaar races. I realise it's not the same, but has anyone seen the pricing for a Comrades entry for this year? For new entrants I believe it was R1500? Freaking crazy to pay that much to suffer for 12 hours.
  12. Going for my 5th finish next year, after I had stomach issues on race day this year. Was tough to watch my father-in-law and pregnant wife ride off in the morning, but wasn't too sad when it started pouring. Everything is more expensive currently, so expecting the cycle tour entries to stay the same is delusional at best. The early bird entries vs later vs late entries is interesting though, I see a lot of races doing this nowadays, so it is interesting to see CTCT following suit
  13. After 7 long months finally got my bike, wife has had her's for 3 months already. Let the riding begin!
  14. Agreed, great trails with great views plus you finish off at a fantastic coffee farm.
  15. That would be Shelly Beach, KZN South Coast, right around the corner from where his shop was, literally.
  16. Showing your age with all the original names of the events haha.
  17. That’s strange, I dropped back to my wife in 5E and they gave me no issues. Granted when I went though the first gate they were trying to stop some guy from 9F entering so presume they may have been distracted!
  18. If you have good climbing ability, people tend to forget what damage the few climbs on Argus can take on your average speed. Doesn't help you can keep an average of 35 everywhere else, but on the climbs it tanks. Those couple of Kms of climbing destroy whatever average you had before that.
  19. Opening your parachute. . . .
  20. every few seconds for me. . . .
  21. after 4 months of waiting. . . My wife finally has her bike! Mine incoming in the next two weeks hopefully! Such a shame that this one will have to gather dust until then hahahaha
  22. Hey, there is already a thread discussing this. Have given a lot of suggestions for Bike Transport https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/190001-cape-town-cycle-tour-2022/page/27
  23. So, often see fellow hubbers posting about accommodation that they rent out in Cape Town, so anybody who still has availability, please PM me details, I would like to support fellow hubbers if possible.
  24. Having a facebook livestream today at 1pm. May shed more light on any questions. Ever since i have done the race in 2016, each even numbered year has had fantastic weather in March, so here's hoping that tradition continues.
  25. Or the Board that is zip tied to your handlebars.
