  1. Not really different to their normal branding, maybe a bit more, but I'm guessing they are giving these at a discount if you take what a normal shirt costs
  2. https://www.sustainable.co.za/collections/geyser-timers/products/geyserwise-tse-geyser-controller?variant=43701610316016
  3. Organisation is fantastic, don't get me wrong, my experience was marred by unfitness, and the muggiest weather
  4. All you do is suffer, while surrounded by grey buildings
  5. Still better scenery than the whole of Ride Joburg.
  6. I presume this isn't replacing the 109km? Pretty sure doing the full event will still be an achievement for people to strive towards, with the shorter route being a stepping stone. Because it may be easy for you to ride a bike does not make it easy for the next person.
  7. Always surprised by how many people think that big event companies don't do there due diligence before making a decision. Just because it does not fit your narrative, does not mean it won't be a success. If it get's more people on bikes, then I say go for it!!!! Would probably allow a younger participation age as well?
  8. Thread revival time. After 11 years of owning a 1000D, it was time to upgrade earlier this year. Managed to get my hands on a used 70D, with a low shutter count. Picture with his baby brother. Then added a 15-85mm, a great upgrade from ye olde kit lens.
  9. Ala Argus? Also don't bother with that infuriating sticker on my helmet, not worth the PIA to get it off after.
  10. Not worth it for the 44 people will understand. . . .
  11. It goes on Racetec, so while it may not show as an "official" seeding event, it still will count towards seeding.
  12. Careful, another South African has recently claimed something is "dying", didn't turn out to well for her. . . . .
  13. And a leka race at that! Always one to look forward too.
  14. Although I didn't do this race this year, I would like to echo this experience from last year. Tearing down some stretch of highway in the beginning before the pain started, 4 lanes wide, had trains shouting at us to keep left. We were in the left most lane in the middle. Utter boxes, I can almost understand this on CTCT, with two lanes mainly the whole way, but on a 4 lane highway? Where we supposed to go?
  15. Damn, didn't know you could even do that with those
  16. Plugged into this inverter trolley???
  17. Not sure if a different route is always the answer, the comrades has been the same forever, there is a lot of people that test themselves on the same route/distance and use it as a measure of fitness. I think the cost of travel and accommodation is 99% the massive issue here. For out of towners the cost of the event is a small percentage of the total cost of the event. Also, while I envy you and your ability to ride that route often, although technically not all of it, and I look forward to my planned move to the cape, please NEVER discount the absolute privilege that you have of being able to do that, and that most cyclists in the rest of the country come just to ride that route.
  18. Yerrr, that is the most important question, stock was such an issue last year, and beginning this year, and probably still is. My wife waited 4 months for her Top Fuel 7 and I waited 7 months for mine. Not easy being a bike buyer at the moment.
  19. ^^^^^^^^^ This reply should be the standard to anyone who comes on to a thread about a specific event and states they aren't going to enter the race because of whatever justification they find themselves employing at that particular time.
  20. Especially when you have power and your neighbour doesn't, I think people sometimes get lost in the cash payback period of these systems, and forgets about taking into account the payback you experience when your street is in darkness and you aren't. Or when the Bokke are playing, and you can watch without worrying about watching the 2nd half on your phone. Or having to tell your 2 year old that he can't do something cause it's loadshedding. All of that should also be factored into your calculation. If you are going into just to save money in the long run then fine, but if even 1% of your motivation is to be independent of Eskom and it's loadshedding, then there are other factors to take into account.
  21. The perks of having fewer rides to list. . . First wet one was this year? haha Have heard war stories of the ou kaapse detour as well as the Boyes drive detour as well.
  22. 2016 was fantastic as I remember it, I started cycling 4 weeks before the race and I SUFFERED the whole way, but I am told the the weather was good. 2017 was the windy/protests/fire cancelled one. 2018 Was good weather 2019 Was terrible weather. 2020 Was fantastic, almost as good as the weather in 2021, except for the late starters/finishers who had some wind and rain. 2021 Glorious day on the bike 2022 enough said, broke my even years are good weather years theory.
  23. Just going to Racetecs website I have the following: Emperors Palace Classic(assuming not full road closure) R490 Die Groot Trap (not sure about road closure) R490 Montecasino Classic (Assuming not full road closure) R490 Only the N3TC Meals on Wheels race comes to R300 So not sure where almost all comes from, or should we only look at the 1 out of 4?
  24. Yeah, I understand for the locals, the lucky buggers that they are, that the price increase is a moaning point, being most if not all of their costs (excluding any of that yummy looking Ciovita kit they have this year). For us upcountry folk, this is such a tiny, insignificant part of our costs that it doesn't even make a dent. Taking into account our fuel from the Free State, accommodation, and then all the meals (which we have now taken to self-catering accommodation to help reduce), whether we pay R650 for the entry or R750 doesn't make a difference, that's barely even a meal for one person at a restaurant. We make a week out of the trip and it makes it worth it in the end.
  25. Maths behind this please? Or are we just grossly exaggerating for effect? Can we compare apples to apples please? 100% road closure costs or nothing, assuming here that 100% road closure adds a significant portion to the costs involved.
