  1. Precisely why the entries are so expensive, everything costs more, and there is less entries which means less to dilute the increase in the costs. Everything has skyrocketed in the last year, can't expect ye olde Argus to stay the same. We lucky it isn't over R1000. Just look at entry costs for comrades. Crazy.
  2. Cool man, this race isn't for everyone. I will repeat until it stops or I can't anymore.
  3. Planning hard under way, making possible 10 day trip out of it.
  4. How exactly would this effect price? I highly doubt we pay for it. . .
  5. Okay, so a little assistance. My sister in law is looking to get a mountain bike for my nephew, he is going to grade 2 next year, 8 years old in the new year. He intends to ride/race it in their school league. My research and reading through this thread has lead me to believe that Titan is a good choice for a kids bike(exactly what I just bought my 3 year old for Christmas) but having a fight about wheel size. All the advice tends to lean towards a 24 inch, he isn’t the tallest and definitely doesn’t have tall genes. Is this the right size? They are leaning towards a 26er of even a 27.5 because of some anecdotal evidence presented to them today. am I wrong to think that is way to big?
  6. Entries are officially open and yet this group is like a ghost town. . . .
  7. Same here for my wife and myself, exactly the same Garmin FR245, we try and start everything at exactly the same time, from starting to acquire satellites to actually starting the run. Always out by a few meters, and kilometer marks sound off much differently.
  8. To be fair, quite a few of their videos has the taste of "buy this crypto, not that one to become a millionaire" level of clickbait. . . .
  9. Or go Clarens to Fouriesburg and back.
  10. Keeping your gel wrappers and bar wrappers and stuff on you costs at least 10 min, don't you know??? 🤣
  11. Didn't see any advertised litter zones, so not sure the organisers were responsible for that? They definitely had a chuck zone on the Montecasino Classic, didn't see one yesterday though. Stand to be corrected of course.

    RIFLE

59 pages read and up to date, quite a chore to be honest, sad to see how dead this thread has gone though. After years of never having been bothered by such things, I find myself in the middle of the competency process, looking forward to learning new things!
  13. 100%, planning and budgeting starts now. It's a foregone conclusion that we will be going, leave is basically booked, boss and colleagues know where I will be the 2nd weekend of March every year. Driving down the Wednesday and back on the Tuesday, taking family with so flights are out fo the question. Stay in an apartment of some sort in Sea point to allow riding to the start and back from the finish. That's been a game changer the last few years as we no longer have to worry about waking up stupid early to get a parking somewhere in sea point. We make a mini holiday out of it, so it makes the expenses easily digestible.
  14. Thank goodness for that, would hate for it to change!!!
  15. 🤣

    Groot Trap 2023

Haven't seen anything, so thought I would start a thread. Anybody doing it this year?
  17. Where did you see this?
  18. So what time are you starting in 4D?
  19. Have to second the hogwash and marketing talk that the speeds and makes don't work together within reason. My wife's current bike has Campag 10 speed shifters Rear Deraileur and brakes, with a shimano front derailleur with a shimano cassette, chain and Truvativ cranks. Quite the hodge podge, but it works damn well. Also looking at upgrading my 8 speed shimano to 10 speed, just waiting for the right bargain on the classifieds.
  20. How so? Then why have a facebook page if any interaction goes to spam?
  21. Definitely didn't say it was intentional, as you said that would be ridiculous. Agree it was an oversight, just saying that an oversight does not absolve you of responsibility.
  22. Why not? As the organiser, when you specifically arrange for a zone for everyone to dump litter, would not one of your tasks post-race be to ensure that it is cleaned up? I am not bashing the event or organiser in anyway, the race was fantastic and I will be back next year, I am just concerned about the future viability of it if this is the main theme that has come out of the race. You are only as strong as your weakest link. As an aside, and I am not aware of the answer, but CTCT has a chuck zone just before Chappies for instance, I don't recall ever seeing rubbish there after the race? I am in no way saying these two races are the same size, or level, but the idea remains the same.
  23. Hold on, the money spent on races is the egotistical wealthy thing? I always thought it was the spending money on bikes that outweigh the yearly income of most of our population that was the egotistical wealthy thing. . . . Or the bib shorts that cost more than most people's monthly income. . . Or the water bottle that is the same as someone's day wage. . . . To be fair, if these people really want to do a race, and have to capital to do it, then why not? Crisis or not, what difference does it actually make in the grand scheme of your existence? I haven't seen anybody say they are planning to do the Epic or something. . . .
  24. Completely un-bike-related, but it took me 3 weeks to get insurance to replace my fridge that packed up due to loadshedding, and that was just getting stock locally. So ja
