  1. Didn't see any advertised litter zones, so not sure the organisers were responsible for that? They definitely had a chuck zone on the Montecasino Classic, didn't see one yesterday though. Stand to be corrected of course.

    RIFLE

59 pages read and up to date, quite a chore to be honest, sad to see how dead this thread has gone though. After years of never having been bothered by such things, I find myself in the middle of the competency process, looking forward to learning new things!
  3. 100%, planning and budgeting starts now. It's a foregone conclusion that we will be going, leave is basically booked, boss and colleagues know where I will be the 2nd weekend of March every year. Driving down the Wednesday and back on the Tuesday, taking family with so flights are out fo the question. Stay in an apartment of some sort in Sea point to allow riding to the start and back from the finish. That's been a game changer the last few years as we no longer have to worry about waking up stupid early to get a parking somewhere in sea point. We make a mini holiday out of it, so it makes the expenses easily digestible.
  4. Thank goodness for that, would hate for it to change!!!
  5. 🤣

    Groot Trap 2023

Haven't seen anything, so thought I would start a thread. Anybody doing it this year?
  7. Where did you see this?
  8. So what time are you starting in 4D?
  9. Have to second the hogwash and marketing talk that the speeds and makes don't work together within reason. My wife's current bike has Campag 10 speed shifters Rear Deraileur and brakes, with a shimano front derailleur with a shimano cassette, chain and Truvativ cranks. Quite the hodge podge, but it works damn well. Also looking at upgrading my 8 speed shimano to 10 speed, just waiting for the right bargain on the classifieds.
  10. How so? Then why have a facebook page if any interaction goes to spam?
  11. Definitely didn't say it was intentional, as you said that would be ridiculous. Agree it was an oversight, just saying that an oversight does not absolve you of responsibility.
  12. Why not? As the organiser, when you specifically arrange for a zone for everyone to dump litter, would not one of your tasks post-race be to ensure that it is cleaned up? I am not bashing the event or organiser in anyway, the race was fantastic and I will be back next year, I am just concerned about the future viability of it if this is the main theme that has come out of the race. You are only as strong as your weakest link. As an aside, and I am not aware of the answer, but CTCT has a chuck zone just before Chappies for instance, I don't recall ever seeing rubbish there after the race? I am in no way saying these two races are the same size, or level, but the idea remains the same.
  13. Hold on, the money spent on races is the egotistical wealthy thing? I always thought it was the spending money on bikes that outweigh the yearly income of most of our population that was the egotistical wealthy thing. . . . Or the bib shorts that cost more than most people's monthly income. . . Or the water bottle that is the same as someone's day wage. . . . To be fair, if these people really want to do a race, and have to capital to do it, then why not? Crisis or not, what difference does it actually make in the grand scheme of your existence? I haven't seen anybody say they are planning to do the Epic or something. . . .
  14. Completely un-bike-related, but it took me 3 weeks to get insurance to replace my fridge that packed up due to loadshedding, and that was just getting stock locally. So ja
  15. Also forgot the Free State Interprovincial Championship in October. Not often I get to ride from home to a race
  16. Did Montecasino Classico last week Bielie Mielie MTB race in 2 weeks CTCT March Groot Trap in April Amashova and Ride Joburg later in the year Also thinking of doing Wines2Whales, but not sure as this year it is Whales2Wines
  17. So, not sure why we are bashing someone for pointing out that an organiser made it VERY clear that we could throw trash at that particular point and begged us not to do it before or after that, then proceeded to not clean it up? We don't know if he was on his bike, or in a car. Regardless I don't think everyone drives or rides around with a couple of black bags to pick up random trash. So thank you for pointing that out, sad to see the organisers not following through on the idea.
  18. Agreed, very well organised and a great route. Having never experience the cradle before it was amazing for this free state bumpkin to see SO many cyclists on the route that weren't part of the race. On a side note there are definitely some Metro cops that deserve a well rested day off today! Having to deal with Angry Entitled motorists for a number of hours must be terrible.
  19. MY theory of even years being great weather years didn't hold up last year, so I will give my weather prediction on the morning when i wake up, but that probably won't be accurate either and severely limited to Sea Point.
  20. Does anyone have the route map for the new route? Or GPX file? Not sure of the routing
  21. Well done on reading the thread before commenting. . . Doing it for the first time this year, keen for something new!
  22. Maybe we shouldn't bash one of the few places that actually is trying to solve an issue. While it may not be perfect, at least it's something. And in this country anything at this point is better than nothing.
  23. Okay, that is true. Wonder if they are going to release a new sub 3 kit?
  24. If not just wear it on Saturday morning, should be solid bragging rights haha.
