I commute from Bellville to Pinelands on my MTB as well. For a short ride, I stay on Frans Conradie all the way until the N7. I take a left on the N7 and continue over Voortrekker road. I then take a right turn under the bridge at Grand West and head through Thornton. For my Medium ride I go via the back of Tyger Valley and take Jip de Jager, then right in Hendrik Verwoerd drive, then left into Giel Basson and then continue the same way via Frans Conradie. For my longer ride I go off road via Majik Forest/Bloemendal and then over Tikkie Draai (Durbanville Road). I then cut through Burgundy Estate (Sienna Drive) and then onto Giel Basson, Frans Conradie and my normal route to Pinelands. I love all the options I have :-)

As a hardened MTBiker I believe they made the correct decision. This morning as part of my DC training, I did the 4 passes 163km loop (Sir Lowy’s Pass, Viljoen's Pass,Franshoek Pass and Hells Hoogte Pass).The rains was relentless. Its was absolutely freezing out there with lots of snow on Franshoek Pass and the rest of the mountain range. My hands was dead and I had difficulty using the controls to change gears and brake. The W2W is not just about the pro mtb racers and the back markers would have been placed at serious risk if the race did continue. Also the conditions would have hampered any possible rescue operation if required and it would have been near impossible for the race organizers to get rescue personnel to the riders if required. Without a doubt they made the correct decision.

Looks like the Attakwas is no longer a MTN National Series event (http://www.advendurance.com/) Does this mean that: 1. It is no longer a UCI event? 2. The top guys/gals will give it a miss to save their legs?

How do you feel about the price increase? I was looking forward to doing this event again but sadly it’s become too expensive :-(

The pedestrian access area is actually 2 the right when coming from Stellenbosch side and you will have to get of your bike.

There is a pedestrian access area to the left of the gate (coming from Stellenbosch side). Nice route and I use to do the Polka Draai bottelary route using that section to connect the two.

Try flexitarianism. I am a part-time vegetarian and I only eat meat on weekends. Best of both worlds ;-)

I would prefer the Garmin pedals becuase it is ANT+ unlike the look pedals.

Jip I had the same problem but added some water to the flask and that works way better

any ideas on how much they will cost and if they will have both road and mtb pedals?
