  1. This race was part of my life change. Two years ago I came stone dead last in the 55km. Since then I quit smoking, trained hardand lost 35kgs. I will be back every year just 2 remind myself of my journey. This is for sure my favourite race on the calendar. Would be awesome if I could get one of those medals.
  2. “The combined weight of the cyclist and equipment impact the energy requirements of a ride. This relationship is directly proportional i.e. a doubling of the weight on the bike doubles the number of Calories expended. And 2 pounds on a cyclist is just as much a problem as 2 pounds of equipment on the bike frame itself. Austin did a nice analysis on the effect of weight on performance. Here's his conclusion: I thought it would be interesting to see how weight would influence these curves. If I lost 10 lbs (about 5%), I would be able to go about 5% faster on the steepest hills, 0.4% faster on the level, and about 2% slower on the downhills. Over a simulated 20-mile closed-circuit ride with a variety of grades, a 10-lb difference produced a 33 second difference. This may or may not seem significant in the context of a time trial. On the other hand, there are two hills on this simulated route where the heavier rider falls back 14 seconds. That is, about 200 feet back and well-dropped. A two-lb difference that you can buy at a bike shop for $500 amounts to only 7 seconds on this circuit, but again, this could mean cresting a hill 50 feet behind your better-sponsored buddies. “
  3. Also keen but won't be able to make Monday.
  4. Go onto pedal power website (www.ppa.org.za) and search for "Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour" and then select KK group and then find him in the list. Ones you have his name then get hold of him via the internet. He most probably is on FB or just do a google search and you will most probably find something on him. Also look at what other races he has done in the past and lets build a full profile on this guy. Give us the info and we can help u track him down.

  11. Lately I have heard that the top racing guys use smaller frame sizes and then use a longer stem and seat post. Is this true and why? To me it looks like it's the case with Andy's bike as well and I also remember seeing the same with Mark Cavendish bike during the tour de france.

Training Load Calculation at Polarpersonaltrainer.com Print 2010/05/21 Polar has introduced a new Training load feature in polarpersonaltrainer.com that tells the user conveniently at a glance on the calendar view how hard the training session was and when the user will have recovered enough for the next session. The training load feature takes out the guesswork, helping the user find the perfect balance between rest and training. With this new feature users can control their total training load, optimize their training by adjusting the intensity and duration of the session, and monitor their performance development. Continuous monitoring of training load and recovery will help recognize personal limits, avoid over or under training, and adapt training program according to daily and weekly targets.
