  1. I'm really frustrated with my delivery - or lack of delivery. The mags just dont seem to get delivered in my case! Anyone else struggling with this? At this stage, I've subscribed, but go to the shop and buy from there
  2. Dry lube. Used to use Epic, but am trying squirt at the moment. My reasoning is the dirt and dust (and mud pieces) that the wet picks up wears out the chaing and components much faster. with the dry lube it falls off. My wife bought her new bike recently, and it came from the LBS with wet lube. Went for a ride - the difference is HUGE. My chain still very much OK when we returned, hers was a stretched out ball of sand... Use it, don't use it... There's place for both in the market. Oh-yeah, and you dont have the oil and black marks on your legs after a hectic piece of cross-country
  3. SRAM and Shimano use the same. Campy is different from what i understand. Where are you situated?
  4. Found it: Off-Road Cycles, Conrad Koen. 012 333 6443. What makes this guy worth it, is the pricing as well as the range. The other guys could only give me 7W - only this guy had 7.5W. His price was R100 for the 7W for a good make, but I paid paid R130 for the 7.5W (but the make of the 7.5W oil is different and of a better quality. Someone else told me they paid R200 for the same oil. Your choice...use it, don't use it...
  5. I bought my shock oil from a local Off-Road Motorbike shop in Koedoespoort in Pretoria. He had the whole range 5W, 7W, 7.5W, etc. And his pricing is not bad. I've lost his number but can get it again if you are in Pretoria. Where are you?
  6. Did anyone see his comment in the beginning... "does not really like cleaning his bike..." Lots of info here that is not needed then
  7. It might be that the pads are damaged with something - take them out and make them rough with fine sandpaper, and then try again. Check the same on the disks. Are you sure there no leaking of fluid from the callipers? What brake system do you have? Did it start recently, or has it always been like that? Ask your LBS re replacement pads with a softer compound. It will wore down faster, but braking will be smoother. Hopithelps
  8. The squeeze is the trick - on SRAM website they have a video on how to do this. BUT - are you sure it is the 9 speed unit. If a 10 speed (a friend of mine's was repaired with a 10spd link on a 9spd chain)...I'd suggest that nifty park-tool pliers And remember to take the chain off the blades in the front so that it hangs loose. Working against the tension of the rear derailler makes it difficult. But you probably know that.Trapper2009-12-16 12:12:09
  9. I'd like to see the outfit, and shake your hand. I'll be having a flat tomorrow at 09h35 corner of Jan Smuts and westcliff drive, or is there somewhere else that will suit you better, Wolverine? Well done and thanks from us other cyclists!
  10. These things work awesome!. I've got all my bikes fitted (road and MTB) and carry a spare for in case the chain fail on another link - then I'll just push out that pin and link it there That said - at the Telkom MTB race, on the HEAVY downhill, I tried to go as fast as possible - nearly had my false teeth come out from the bouncing . When I started to pedal at the bottom of the hill, the chain fell off completely!! The SRAM link came loose, lost one part and well, that's the end of that. Took me exactly 1 minute to fit my spare link, and off I went. So, they are not infallible, BUT MUCH BETTER THAN THE CHAINBREAKER...
  11. Very NB: Saddle must be higher than your knees
  12. I've canned the extra tube (with slime). Only 4 bombs, handpump, tubeless repair kit, and some tubeless repair grommets (for the real big holes)
  13. where do I find ROAG?
  14. Good for you trek - glad you got paid out and serviced! I know that Outsurance is doing a lot to be the best for bike insurance - premiums, paying out etc, after some discussions with cycle clubs. Good to have positive news and input.
  15. From what i heard, and seen with my brother-in-law's fox: Lotsa Maintenance, and maintenance, and then maintenance again. It keeps on leaking oil
  16. I parked in Sandton, walked across, walked, was directed to the collection stands. I had to make three different collections at different points - 2 road and one MTB. took less than 6 minutes for all three. All stuff correct and everyone very helpful and smiling. Expo is less than last year, but all in all good. Pinarello Dogma x 2 (Damn, it's weight - or rather lack of it is AWESOME!!) ...and then of course there's the Cannondale...and the new SRAM Red in demo. Got good pricing for my stuff at Solomons (they have a huge stand every year), but the tills were ringing wherever I went. All in all, it was lekka and smooth (on the eyes as well), and a beer afterwards at Mandela square was just what was needed. And then of course you pay R7 for (unlimited) 3hr parking at Sandton square. They have this paypoints just before you exit the Expo - this is a great (new)idea! Traffic back to Pretoria was bad...should have taken that Pinarello and cycled back
  17. start barking! Like a MAC-Truck's Exhaust brake.
  18. Slowly!! I mean kill him slowly...tie him up and feed him to a mad rodweiler will be a good beginning...
  19. It takes personal responsibility - abide by Road rules, abide by general cycling rules, be a positive road user, and work together to resolve the problem. There are many good suggestions here (apart from fining the club) which individuals, group rides and clubs could implement and work towards IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT THE MOTORISTS do. Keep our side clean, and eventually 3 or 4 good cyclists will show the motorist that the 1 misadjusted guy, is just 1, and not all cyclists. I must be honest, being a roadie and off-road cyclist, i've seen good and bad on both sides. I also have to say that in nearly 10 years of road cycling, i've only had 3 bad encounters with cars - and that includes taxi's. Most drivers will be kind, will give right of way, and take care NOT to endanger the cyclist's situation. WRT Cradle - I believe that all cyclists should work to make the cradle a safe and welcome place, by doing all the GOOD points above, and not pointing fingers... oh and the same goes for Suikerbosrand. Cheers
  20. Karsten Cycles in Pta will do both wheels for approx R500, and their kit is MUCH MUCH better than Joe's or Stans.
  21. I've taken the gamble about 3 weeks ago, and did the home job. (Mavic rims with Kenda tires). First tried the Insulation tape and loose valve... miserable failure, just could not get it to seal. Then did the front wheel only using 20" tube version. Used four bombs in the process, and ended going to the garage to use the pump (MUCH MUCH easier). It sealed OK but leaked all way round the rim. I pumped it hard (4bar) to make sure it seated OK, then dropped it to 1.2Bar(!!) and took a slow ride round the block going up and down the pavement. It burped once, but that was it. Came back, pumped to 2bar, and it stayed there. Next week did the rear tyre, same procedure. It appears that the riding with lower pressure causes the tyre and tube to seat better. It still lost some air, but I went mountain riding the next day, and had to pump it once after about 10km. Then it settled and did not loose any more air. I'm a full believer and promotor of the tubeless conversion - even though I'm using non UST tyres at this stage Did the Telkom night ride and 57km ride last week-end. Front pressure at 1.8bar, rear at 2.1. Not one punture, leak, But I did dent the one side of the rear rim in one place due to doing the BAD long downhill - with lots of rocks - at high speed. Now my question: I will have to remove the tyre to fix the dent in the rim. Is this insert now re-usable or will it retract too much into the rim when the tyre is deflated? Thanks
  22. Great to hear about good service!!
  23. I did the MTB on Sunday. (Having been a Roadie) i was amazed at the lack of littering. At the first water station, one of the front racers came past, grabbed the cup of water and dashed off in hot pursuit. AMAZING - he finished the drink, crumpled the cup and PUT IT IN HIS POCKET!! The two young guys manning the station was hopping up and down with "DID YA SEE THAT!!" I for one was sincereley impressed
  24. XXL i.e. 22" Can go for 21" but I seriously suggest you get full measurements done and bike set up correctly. Look at this site https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCM?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO
