  1. It's only a pleasure - welcome to my world
  2. You get a wide variety of rims, 24/28/32/36 spoke - so if you have a hub that is 32 holes, you'll need to get a rim that has 32 holes for 32 spokes. And they are radily available, so it's a lot easier than you might think...
  3. Bman, I know the guys at buycycle.co.za have a nice variety of rims (and are able to help you out if needs be), and they also have a wheelbuilder... so you could practically ask them to build you a custom set of wheels - go DTSwiss
  4. No ways... I'd rather have a Ridley Noah over a Spez anyday of the week...
  5. I had the same problems when i was training for my first IM70.3 - body was taking a beating. The problem with that your training program (usually) doesn't take into account how your body is feeling (if your coach is any good, they'll adjust your program when you tell them how you are really feeling - be honest on your training log. that's if you ahve a coach). If you are knackered a hard run/bike could do more bad than good. Rest is just as important as training. I also just took a good multi vitamin to ensure I was getting the right stuff in my body - and obviously ate healthy, and watched what was fueling my system. One seasoned triathlete gave me three valuable tips before I started my IM training in all seriousness: 1) Train wisely (obviously in IM your body will take a hammering, so to a degree you need to get used to it, but it's pointless breaking yourself week in, week out). 2) Eat correctly 3) Suppleness (your muscles take a beating, ensure you stretch often to keep the muscles in good shape) Good Luck - you'll love IronMan, it's awesome!
  6. I was thinking the same, Luke. This event was really well organized, one or two water point issues - but in general everything seemed to run smoothly - I even had a guy pumping my wheel up at a water point while someone else filled my empty bottle with water... and the pool at the end of a hot ride, was rather refreshing
  7. Surely it's good etiquette to ask someone if they can join you in your lane and not just jump in and take over... You probably find they park in handicap bays as well, thinking their stupidity is a handicap Sometimes I just give up - some things we will never understand...
  8. Awesome awesome pics Ronelle - you capture the whole moment. Well Done. let us know when they are uploaded onto the torquepics.co.za site
  9. I think this is MariusL? Yip this is me
  10. I've heard of their road frames... they were in SA many moons ago...
  11. I think they are unicyclists...
  12. haha... Malcolm can't even spell "tjop" properly... tjop!
  13. HardRock has V-Brakes I'm no mtb expert, but the 'Goose looks like a nice deal, SRAM components as well
  14. I won't be there tonight, doing an easy 60km after work - don't want heavy legs on Sunday for the OneTonner... and even if you ouens say it will be easy tonight, we al know it won't - cause they say that every week
  15. The LBS I had my KCNC "issue" with did go belly up...
  16. I had a similiar problem with a KCNC seatpost... I adjusted my position for IronMan (moved my seat a few mm further forward), but it kept slipping back - I was sure to not over tighten the bolts. So the guys at my LBS tightened it and it still kept slipping... LBS replaced it for me, but the KCNC oke said "no ways, you can't adjust your position because the saddle rails seat with the seat clamp..." what a load of K@K!!! tjops!
  17. HECTIC - the Edge 500 is R3,999 on Kalahari.net (the whole pack HRM, cadence sensor)... BikeInn has it for R1,875!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How in the world can it be more than double in SA??? BikeInn gets my business, time for an early Christmas prezie B)
  18. Maybe I should get one too then B)
  19. hey Joey - were you charged import duties and VAT? Thinking of getting an Edge 500
  20. Only if you do it for a living...
  21. I wouldn't take a chance with having my front wheel failing... and it will most likely fail under load... very much painful. But good luck if you want to give it a "bash"
  22. We were just letting you get comfortable... started catching the back of the slower group towards the end of our ride. But we'll get you next week
  23. I stopped using Oakley a few years back when my 'minutes" broke and the Oakley rep gave me FU look... so I gave him one back and now use Adidas as their prescription shades work well, and Oakley is just rediculously expensive...
  24. Over the many years of riding my bike I have a lot of little things I do before races... seriously, cutting my toe nails the night before the event is one of them never shave the night before a race (I'm too sh%t scared to wax!!!), left sock always goes on first, followed by left shoe... jersey is only put on at the event (never wear it on the way to the event), last thing I put on is my gloves... and if it's a really important race (DC, Argus, IronMan) I have a haircut no jokes
  25. I have tried many things in 18years of racing, and two days before an event it is really just an easy laid back look at the scenery ride, low gears with the legs just ticking over, checking that the gears are 100% etc (the ride is just over an hour, no more - done with my race wheels). Have tried two days off, but my legs tend to feel a bit lethargic on race morning. But the best is to try different routines, some guys find resting 2 days works like a bomb for them, others find riding the day before works well... best is to try now early season, and then when you find what works for you, stick to it and your body gets used to it... best of Luck, and most importantly enjoy
