  1. And then when they loose (sad being they only beat Afghanistan and were lucky to beat NZ) Biff blames it on everything except the players. "We didn't have time to gel... blah blah fishpaste". Jeeeez - when I was in grade 3 I was chucked into the rugby team for being one of the fatties - and we played with more heart then the "proteas"... and all we knew about gelling was that it was what the older (and cooler) boys did to their hair... 2. I've heard of a few bike jackings near Du Noon, and on the N7 near that squatter camp. Insane to cycle any where near a "location" - looking for trouble IMO. I was also nearly pushed off my bike on the van Schoorsdrift road (old Malmesbury Rd - just off the N7 near the moto X track). Apparently that has become a bit of a hot spot. Then also just outside Stellenbosch (on the road between Stellis and Klapmuts - not sure what it's called now), as you leave Stellenbosch there are those "skummy" flats on your left - I have it on good authority that a few drug dealers live there. On weekends the guys sit there in groups under the trees and have been known to target cyclists (sometimes even at gun point). It's safer to just go via the bottom road towards the Botterlary. That's all I know of in Cpt.MariusL2010-05-14 02:10:42
  3. Good luck... and enjoy
  4. i think the announcer's name is Paddy Agnue... Too many "oooh's" and "aaaahs" and not enough info. He is actually a soccer pundit (and I personally think he should stick to that funny game where guys chase their balls around)...
  5. My 2c worth... get the Argon (and Collin's a good oke - he won't BS you). MariusL2010-05-11 01:59:42
  6. Less red blood cells = less oxygen getting to your muscles.
  7. WOW - that looks epic... Where do the trails start to get up there?
  8. Flip - I'm worried, I have one of those seatposts... It's actually my second seatpost - the first one was faulty, I changed my position for IronMan, and the saddle kept slipping. The rep said you should only have one setup, coz the rails and seat clamp "seat" and then it slips if you change your saddle position... excuse me... smells like a load of bull
  9. Where exactly do the trails in Contermans start? Are there maybe a few guys who ride together who wouldn't mind me tagging along...
  10. Thanks Ratty... We are in a bit of a dilema here in T/View D/Ville areas... I've heard of guys getting mugged on Polkadraai towards Stellenbosch, and even on the back road towards the Kromme Rhee... not safe anywhere really. But I still wouldn't play golf
  11. Woofie - know of anyone I can ride with in the CY area?
  12. On Saturday late morning after the rain, I decided to take out my Mtb for a 4 hour trip on the road. On my way riding towards the N7, on the Old Malmesbury Road (van Schoorsdrift), just before the Moto Cross track a guy (african dude wearing dark green jacket) comes running out from behind the trees and tries to push me off my bike... Luckily he grabbed my arm but could pull me off. So much for training on quiet roads to avoid the cars... The palooka was alone - pretty brave if you asked me. Felt like heading back there after I got home with a mate or two, with a shambock and teaching him a little lesson... anways. Be aware and careful out there guys... We all know its better to train in groups, but its not always possibe.
  13. Jappie at Union Cycles in Brackenfell might be able to help you... he sprayed my (steel) track bike a few years back. He leaves the frame in chemicals overnight for the paint to come off, and then does the spray-painting. Maybe he could arrange that your frame gets put in the chemicals - without doing the spray painting. Give him a call.
  14. I recently changed from Campaq (old 9spd Chorus) to SRAM - works awesome, no complaints...
  15. I've never done it. Just heard it was a pretty "balls to the wall" type of ride & some the guys riding it are very strong indeed. Give it a go - apparently they regroup at the top of climbs when the crazy dudes put the hammer down. Then tell us how it was No Guts, no glory... as they say... I'll hopefully give it a go tomorrow evening, and let you know... I'll be the guinea pig
  16. Is it that bad then???
  17. Just want to know if the WE night ride group will be riding tomorrow evening?
  18. So we are subsidizing 1500 "disadvantaged" cyclist's who'd rather be playing soccer anyway??? I know when I started cycling I had to get a weekend job as a student to pay for my cycling... no charity came my way! Rant over...
  19. "They announced at the race yesterday that the entry fees only cover something like one-third of what it costs to put each rider on the road. " That still leaves them with R6m...
  20. Hey Martie, Rather use what you have been training on. Sometimes your stomach might react strangely to things you are not used to. The last thing you want is your stomach cramping, or worse - getting the "squirts" somewhere around Cape Point... Personally, I don't use either. Enjoy your ride on Sunday!
  21. From what I heard they pulled out of SA... my LBS was getting rid of stock during the middle of last year...
  22. what happened to "no helmet, no ride"
  23. Awesome - thanks GoBig
