  1. BTW, while we're chatting... I know shoes were discussed earlier. But I am going for a new pair. I am 90% set on Sense Pro, but now heard that I might be able to get Sense Ultra and Ultra SG for same price (the 3, not the new 4 - for obvious reasons). I have looked at Saucony Peregrine as well, but I think I eliminated this. Which is sad, because I thought it will be a perfect "match" to my road shoes (Kinvara). Any experiences to share on those?
  2. Eendag as ek groot is... Man, that would be awesome to do, but no. Ironically I know a guy who went on the shortlist and actually got an entry in the lucky draw. Even more ironically, I saw him beginning of Sept - and he just started running again after a bout of illness. You doing it, Riaan?
  3. Completely agree, that was part of my comment a while ago regarding the way it seems to be heading to a two-engine series like Indy. Nobody wants the Honda. Those that have it, curse it - or call it a GP2 engine. Renault is not as bad, yet RBR is so bent on getting rid of it, they are now approaching their main competitors for engines? And demanding equality to works, not normal customer engines... Small wonder Niki called (as usual) it as it was when he said very early in these "negotiations" that Merc will not be crazy enough to supply RBR.
  4. Iwan, did I miss something? Huge "driver line-up" announcement advertised (typical American!)... and they only announced Grosjean? I never saw who will be partnering him, despite several rumours. Ons another front - at least Lotus apparently now have a letter of intent from Renault.
  5. Do you really want to know...?! Hey, at least I remembered Bentley, Jaguar and Mercedes is not there any more...
  6. Argh, I thought of Porsche and typed Peugeot! Agreed, multiple engine suppliers to multiple teams (né Honda...) And really, this developement freeze is BS. Back to the STR scenario - what impressed me more about that all was how they made the super softs last as long as the other teams ran on softs! (I am pretty sure they pitted with the rest under the second safety car.) Be that as it may - awesome drive from Verstappen to come from the back having had his great qualifying nullified. Has he been spending too much time with Kimi?!
  7. I, for one, would love to see more manufacturers. Audi has got a grip on hybrid engines, as does Toyota and Peugeot. (Who am I missing from LMP1?) It's crazy to think we may be at an almost Indycar stage next season with two engine suppliers, plus one (maybe two) teams running other (Honda and Renault) engines. Crow, I agree that that was the intent... But jeez, they could have explained it a bit better to the guy at the time! And maybe have done it a lap (at least) earlier, both to give Sainz a run at Perez and decent time to swop back if required. Fortunately it sounds as if there's no hard feelings from Sainz's side.
  8. Haha - Savage, that was a nice giggle... I did the "dirt jog" as part of the Sanlam Marathon on Saturday. Signal Hill and Leeukop. But for some congestion in the beginning - school fees, don't stand riiiiight at the back for an unseeded trailrun! - it was awesome! First time I ran there, so really enjoyed it and took a lot of snaps - not as if I was ever going to win it! Genuine awesome route and great views, will take some buddies one weekend and return to those slopes. My sense of humour did fail... twice. Those that were there will appreciate both moments. First when, after about 19k's, they show you the road down 3 (street) blocks of stairs you climbed up at the start. I just laughed when I realised what was coming. But even worse was the realisation that I could get a seat riiiiight next to the Mitchell's draught supply, but there was nobody there to pour the Mitchell's?! Seriously?! After a trail run - no beer? What did they think I drag my sorry azz over a mountain for? Next up the Fairview goat run. First... somebody have a spare set of quads?
  9. Shorts - any light running shorts. But NOT those hyper short ones the "roadies" like. Currently have Nike and Adidas ones, both works perfectly. On the topic of chafing, also started developing an inner thigh chafe of late now that I start running further. Plan to wear old compression shorts under my shorts on longer runs to alleviate the problem. Who cares what it looks like?! Light: I recently got a LED Lenzer - I think it's the EOS 5 version - the red one, anyways. Not this heckuva battery pack and gives a nice light - enough for the pace I run at, anyways! (Just a funny halo effect which I only noticed on the last run, but that might be due to the focus ring, which I haven't really played with.) Dew/rain drops next to the path catching the lights on dark runs still take my breath away! Love it...
  10. Ouch, that can't be lekker. Where is the stress fracture - in the foot? Good luck with the recovery. Don't know what I'd do without my outdoor escape and endorphin!
  11. Haha, no, fortunately it does not work that way! You park at the finish venue, then they take you UP by bus to start the run. Basically drop you in the "Neck" at Du Toitskloof and it's a short walk down to the start. And then you run "down" - but it ain't all downhill from there! Before the Goat Run I managed to convince myself it's a good idea to go and do that Sanlam Cape Town Marathon's Trail run. Ambition and capabilities got a bit disjointed... Then again, the same happened when I entered myself into my first marathon (Winelands) last week. Still don't know what went on upstairs whilst my fingers were entering.
  12. Those who were also there will most likely agree - this was an awesome run! (If you don't I'd like to know why...) Great views, interesting format and my buddy and I agreed that it felt like much more elevation than what was stated, but maybe it was just the timing and the slopes of the elevation. As much as I enjoyed the downhills in the beginning, towards the end I had a (very) near fall and was tired, so then I started doubting - and then the downhills got a bit mislik. And worst was running overly cautious and telling yourself that you're just causing problems for yourself now, but you can't find the "Commit" gear... Well organised, brilliantly marked, superb views and I loved running through the protea plantation - all-round a great experience! My legs are still complaining, but that's doing nothing to spoil the smile inside.
  13. ..and now we have to start hearing he's (hahahaha) an old-school racer! Laughed myself silly when I read the heading... Drivers nowadays have no clue what old-school is. BTW - he won his first cart championship with #44, if I have it correctly. From there the significance.
  14. Anybody joining me in this bit of fun tomorrow? Green Forrest run in Hawekwa... Looks like great fun! http://raceinterface.co.za/green-forest-run-2-paarl/
  15. I'm not a running expert, but I use the max I've obtained as my HR Max. (Excluding obvious spikes due to some sort of interference!) I don't know what the HR Reserve definition is you've got, but Jeroen told me that the definition of HR Reserve is HR Max - HR Resting. And from there use Karvonen for zones.
  16. ...and I thought I was taking a "big step" when I entered for my first marathon yesterday! Good luck guys... will be following your progress here.
  17. SeaBee

    MotoGP

Corrected that one for you... Two laps does not constitute a race - just ask MM... you have to reach the checkered flag. Had to laugh at the dig the commentators had at the British F1 fans!
  18. Bugger - pity that it's the day after the Cape Town Peace Trail, otherwise I'd have been there! And same day as CT Marathon, so also taking some "roadies" that may have been interested in doing this one. Weird how people keep on clashing with big events... it's not as if CT Marathon weekend is an unknown date? I'd personally have done everything to avoid that weekend, Gun Run weekend and obviously Oceans weekend ito CT dates. That said, I opted to enter for Fairview Trailrun on the weekend of Gun Run, but at least that's local to me. These events are both IN Cape Town.
  19. Best of luck to you both. But you said the important part, Tumbles - he'll beat this...
  20. I see it's not been mentioned yet, but sad to have wokened up to the news of Justin Wilson's passing after an Indycar crash. And that also just after the passing of a legend - Guy Ligier. For those who weren't aware - another car's nosecone hit his helmet. So now (esp having happened in the States) everybody is climbing onto the bandwagon, wanting to enclose cockpits, etc. Personally do not think it's the answer - it will add other dangers.
  21. Last year the week before the Dirty Double, I did a 12 k road run (my first of that distance!) to see whether I would maybe last the 10k trail run part. Yesterday... we did a flippin 32k run in Paarl Mountain. (I think it's safe to say I'll survive the 10k trail run of DD coming weekend!) It was my furthest run by some margin, but awesome! Legs are starting to give my notice of my idiot move now, but hey, I did it. Nothing a light recovery run tonight can't fix - otherwise I'll have trouble walking tomorrow! Fortunately the Achilles seems to have held up MUCH better than anticipated. I am so glad I seem to be winning (gaining ground slowwwly) on that front now.
  22. Chirp of the weekend was DC's comment that "No this is not a slo-mo, that is how fast the McLarens are actually going!"
  23. Taxing the memory banks here, but I seem to remember I saw some Bridgedale socks at Runner's Rest. And since you're innie Bos...
  24. The click-clack on my Anthem was exactly the first suggestion. Saddle & seatpost combo. Take off/out, clean, re-tighten everything... sorted. They're very quick to replace linkage bearings etc - test by hunting the clack sound. Press down on saddle vs press down on top tube tube to recreate sound.
  25. Pieter, I can't wait... sitting with a slight Achilles niggle and suspect it is (contrary to popular belief!) from running in shoes with too much drop. And not biomechanically (I know that "should be better" on the Achilles), I suspect the heels are irritating my Achilles - not chafing, just pressing. Slickandtyred, if that comment regarding feet width was for me - thanks, but I do not have wide feet at all. That said - my now tired NB road shoes are still my favorites. Plenty wide... but not required.
