  1. Takes the body quite some time to heal up after a flu (an desp after anti-biotics, if that was on the menu). Maybe the recovery is not fully complete and then that 30 was still taking it's toll. Also found with me that what I eat the previous evening makes a huge difference, but this (to me) sounds like you're still getting going after the flu. I usually take a good couple of weeks or more before I start seeing my HR drop after an effort (esp on the bike) - and then I know the boys are back and we can go play again.
  2. ...and here's the Ferrari. Interesting the white in and around the cockpit. Will take some getting used to. Reminds me of some of the older cars in that aspect. The proof will be what happens on track.
  3. I am sheeting myself every now and again about this. Something to the tune of 1900m asc over 22k's... just sounds like a lot of walking and/or mountaineering at places for me! But I suspect it's going to be awesome! I suspect I'll surpass the volume of pics I took on the Sanlam Trailrun last year!
  4. Urgh Andrew, know the feeling. Been on and off with issues on my calf as well small niggle mid-winter and then non-stop since Oct. After Bay2Bay, I decided to say stuff this and go to somebody who is a runner herself to get it sorted properly and try to get to the root of this evil. So it's been a slow couple of weeks or more, think it's closer to a month! But now at last getting there. Been running slow and flat on my high-drop shoes for a couple of weeks. Then could do the 27 for Freedom on the weekend - but was told to chill and do it at long run pace, which I did. This week only (still in those shoes) I could start running hills lightly and from today some speedwork as alternate. Getting there! Pretty sure next weekend Oak Valley XL (trail) will see me ready to roll. Feel your pain, take it easy and get it healed properly. Rush back and you end up like me with repeat injuries.
  5. Had to re-register, just awaiting confirmation mail. Then I can bug you experts on another forum!
  6. Fortunately that is only the testing scheme... then again, that black on black patches at the rear makes me think of a Darling Brew, so, can't be all bad!
  7. Just got the go-ahead to start running again! Slow, short, no hills, neutral feet (NO push-off) and so on. It helps to have been ill and the body is still stuffed by antibiotics... Absolutely zero in the tank and this helps making even a slow flat run feel like a good effort!
  8. Now I have a real funny which I haven't experienced before... My run of last night (uploaded via GC) was awarded to Vitality Points... but it did not go through to the Rewards side of things?!
  9. All you happy running bunnies out there... I am envious. My mileage has dropped a bit. Injured my calf before Winelands, then again during, then it healed... only for me to go and screw it up again end of Dec. running in Eden over lunch. "Held up" during Bay to Bay, but now in treatment. At least got the green light to go for short flat runs. Was supposed to have started after the weekend, but got a double-whammy with the stomach bug. At least things are starting to look up. Was laying there whilst dagger claws were ripping my leg apart, just watching the word "Explore" under a pic of Landie Greyling... thinking "soon". My happy place... this time to get away from the claws!

Ja flip, but Brands "Indy" layout is simply the start-finish straight and turn at the end of it, that first two turns thereafter and then instead of heading off onto the real track (into the woods) you take a long right-hander back onto the straight. You'll get dizzy watching it!
  11. If that was my lab, it would have taken perfect timing and a quick shutterspeed... before he gobbled up the last one!
  12. Ja, I just had it, still feeling like a dog...
  13. ...unless you're looking at it through Union Jack coloured lenses! Then it MIGHT turn to "Maybe".
  14. It will crash...?
  15. Some "innocent" Maldonado fun. Imagine the disappointment... True story.
  16. Seems CapeMulti has some options - at least for the Camelbaks. Which do you rate as "proper"? Still quite like my Ultraspire pack, only thing that bugs me is it does not run perfect when it is getting light - gets a bit bouncy. But nothing too serious. When filled up with even just water, it sits nicely. Edit: PS. Some of my buddies really like their Ospreys, maybe something else to have a look at.
  17. Using the SDG's from ODI as well - for some years now. Yeah, some wear and tear with scrapes and falls, etc, but they're as good as new! Don't think I'll ever see the need to experiment with grips again.
  18. Hey Scott, likewise! May it be a good one... B2B went surprisingly well. Will update the doc tonight. Hectic winds, though - more caps and glasses blowing off than there are water bottles popping off at the Ou Wapad descend! On a logistical note - they really need a new startline procedure, it was a bit chaotic. Stunning run, wind or not. Really liked having time to look at things you just fly past on on the Tour de Peninsula. Unofficially 2:47, so quite happy. Was hoping for sub-3 (with all those hills I thought that would be a good guesstimate), so to do it despite the wind was a nice surprise. Was sad to see Table Mountain burning (again!) going in the morning (darnit, it was an early start to the day for me...) and hear that it is now burning above Scarborough.
  19. What do you guys rate and use for waterPROOF jackets? Yeah, funny time of the year to ask about it, but some races during the year has this as compulsary kit. A friend advised the Salomon Bonatti - the day AFTER we were in Canal Walk and close to the Salomon store. So could not look at it yet. Any other options? Saw a Saucony one and... I think it was a North Face one. Esp the Saucony one seemed very stiff.
  20. It sounded like a good idea at the time to enter for Bay to Bay. Suddenly it is THIS Sunday. It is going to be "interesting"... fake it till you make it sounds about right!
  21. Swiss, you'll have more exposure to that, but when I run in the rain I wear my watch under my jacket. If I want to see something, I lift up the sleeve, take a quick peek. What confuses me more is how you'll get HR readings on the bike, since it's supposed to be a multisport watch. Or do they seriously expect you to keep the thing on your arm whilst riding? That all said, I'm not in the market for one of these, just opinionating. Not that I'd mind to win one or something!

Pffff... "fast enough"?! I think he would have been faster than Pedrosa.
  23. Urgh, also struggling a bit with a calf. Seems to be my Achilles heel - pun slightly intended... Every time I change something, or load up more or do more uphills, it's always my left calf that warns me first. Darned sore and a bit of a beach to roll, but at least it's responding. Well, what did not help this time was that a tannie with a full trolley hit my heel in the mall (wearing sandals) with said trolley. 2 days later I run and had calf issues on the same leg - I am sure it's not soincidence, the heel was still quite sore so I presume a bit of compensation in the stride stuffed it up. Won't be out for too long, though. Next up - Bay 2 Bay!
  24. Just saw this new option this morning. Looks like a nice idea to run (as opposed to ride) into the hell... and back out! http://www.tohellandback.co.za/ Direct link to the trailrun event: http://www.tohellandback.co.za/tohellandback-trailrun/
